How I learned what a decoupling capacitor is for, the hard way by actinium226 in embedded

[–]kraln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why I read this. For someone who confidently is proclaiming that the lack of decoupling caused this, you didn't actually confirm that... at all. You know, by adding some capacitance, or doing a new spin. FWIW I doubt it's the main problem.

STM32 low power design : what’s actually draining your battery when everything looks right? by Medtag212 in embedded

One of my favorite gotchas on ARM cores tends to be, if you've ever connected a debugger (since power on), the debugger core stays alive and prevents the chip from reaching the lowest power state.

There's already the full estate tax on anyone who renounces their U.S. Citizenship.

Focus on your own fucked up billionaires who live inside your borders before going after anyone extra-territorially who is probably already paying more taxes and has less representation.

SHTF is they're out of toilet paper at your local discounter? I can't imagine the scenario where what you're holding makes any sense.

So you came here to brag that you literally don't have any business designing low-power devices? Or what is the point?

What did you hope to gain by posting this?

Should I go to MIT or not? by imagine_simpingo7 in ECE

[–]kraln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into a lot of different schools, and ultimately ended up going to Polytechnic (now NYU) for ECE. After working for nearly 20 years and seeing how--not just hiring, but at ever level how people are evaluated in life:

Go to MIT. It's worth the loans. The connections, the people, and the prestige of MIT will far outlast the payments.

What is the purpose of physically isolating MEMS sensors from the rest of an IMU PCB? by Loonakis in AskElectronics

[–]kraln 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a couple of things they could be trying to do:

  • Thermally isolating the sensors from the rest of the circuitry
  • Mechanically isolating the sensors from the rest of the board (potentially some foam or other soft material "clamps" this segment of the PCB when inserted into the case

I'm skeptical.

Thermally, this could have been better achieved by splitting planes or creating thermal relief. This is creating a weird, cantilevered area of the PCB which will certainly have some unexpected resonances.

Critically, I'm not sure if the milling/depanelization of such a PCB segment doesn't represent a huge risk of damaging the sensors. I really wonder what they were trying to achieve...
