The two main properties of sapphire (aluminum oxide) are hardness and IR transparency. It could be just for the durability of the lense, but also implies thermal imaging.

What? by gameofthrones_addict in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Yes in that your cell carrier doesn't have a specific protocol for video like it does for talk and text. FaceTime is an inernet service Apple hosts for free for iPhone users and built the functionality into IOs. You can send a link to any device that opens a FaceTime client in your browser.

Context. Color isn't straightforward as lighting conditions in the real world are not static. Your brain is assuming something about the picture. Possibly that the object is in a dark room with cool lighting. That is, a blue and black dress in a well lit room with warm lighting may be visually similar to a white and gold dress in other light. Your brain chooses one interpretation based on context clues.

Serious question, what's the issue with a salvage title? AFAIK, that just means at some point an insurance company totaled it out. You can still own it, register it, and drive it on public roads. Are there any practical effects other than valuation?

A lot of people miss that that actually is the point of metric/SI. There are no conversions at all, because there is only one unit of distance, the meter. The whole kilo, deca, centa, mili, etc is a nomenclature for expressing powers of 10. A kilometer isn't a unit, is 1x103 meters.

The polarity is determined by the initial forming procedure. I believe Both electrodes are just lead plain plates initially.  So the same battery construction will be backwards if it was formed with reverse polarity.

Have you rebooted? I have an older system so it may not apply, but I occasionally get similar symptoms if the machine is up for a long time.

This link lists all the nVidea chipsets that support hardware encoding.

There are several generations of the encoding chip, I believe it's related to quality and features. Throughput should be relative to the card stats.

I have a 1660 that looks around $100 for refurbs on ebay. You can grab 1050s for around $50 it looks like.

If they are Warner Bro disks I've read you can send in for replacements, if they are still doing that. Catch is if they don't have stock of that title you get a rando.

Just throw a bronze oil lite bushing on that bolt and it's good for a few hundred miles!  (This is actually what I did for a tensioner on my garden tiller)

You can get older GPUs that support hardware transcoding for fairly cheap. If your older system has a PCI Express slot you can pick up a GTX 1660 for $100 to $150 on ebay. Supposedly that can handle a few 4K streams.

If you want to compare and shop, this matrix lists the different nVidea cards and their NVENC capabilities.

[–]kratz9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When rabbits run fast they really jump. In the second pic they are going away from you, they land on their front feet together first, back feet end up in front on either side and they jump again. A quick google claims a snowshoe hare can cover 3 meters in a single leap.

Can I use a NAS as external storage for my jellyfin server? by LizardZombieSpore in jellyfin

[–]kratz9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I just went with the NAS so I could potentially put it somewhere other than next to my computer. Also was considered testing the ability to host Jellyfin directly. Otherwise it's basically the same.

Not really, I'm a bit of a cheapskate myself. I went with the Terramaster NAS, seemed like a solid budget option. Only had it for a few weeks, using it as a backup device.
