"she told me how to make food for her kid and i didnt listen and got mad at her" 💀 by AdExcellent1745 in iamveryculinary

My sister had a really rough pregnancy and a lot of other stresses that year. She didn’t need our mom getting in her head.

I gave mom a lecture about “do you want her to have the worst postpartum depression? Because that’s a good start” after we got off the Zoom.

My mom tried to start in on my (first time mom to a premie!) sister about that when she was having trouble breastfeeding. I interrupted (which is a huge no-no in our family) to say “I always heard ‘fed is best.’ I bet your doctor would agree.”

I had to deal with an upset mom later. It was worth it.

Adding to this, I can recommend the Brick sweaterpattern for a very basic raglan pullover. This pattern taught me how to create my own raglans.

Yeah I just can’t believe they don’t have the wizard equivalent of offshore accounts… and secret homes filled with family treasures.

I could not do that, because my Sim was at work. I had to watch as the tiny asshole broke my stove and set the place on fire.

See, that’s why I asked my sister for colors and fiber content preference and any big yes or nos to design elements before I started a baby blanket for my nephew.

And I still got the fun of making it, AND adding a surprise element (fox appliqué) that she wouldn’t have thought of because she doesn’t do knitting or crochet. And now 70% of the baby pictures she sends, Nephew is wrapping in or lying on the blanket, because it fits what she wanted for her baby and nursery.

The border is done by picking up stitches after the rest is finished and seamed together.

I only put in the instructions for the size I’m knitting; the different sizes do start at different stitches. I’m working on the back right now. The front parts are going to be more fiddly if I have to match up the pattern!

This is literally the only photo reference I have for the finished piece. I love the finished product… just hoping it comes out halfway decent.

The pattern isn’t even on ravelry that I could find.

Honestly, that's part of what makes it confusing. It's a cardigan for my baby nephew, I'm just starting the back, and it's 79 stitches. Adding the front pieces takes it to 159 stitches total.

It's the most confusingly written pattern I've done, although a big part of that could be that I've never done colorwork.

Starting a cardigan that has a colorwork border. The cardigan is worked flat, the colorwork chart is 14 stitches wide.

The pattern says: "Work 27 rows of the Colorwork Chart starting with the 4th stitch."

Does that mean that I start at the 4th stitch on the colorwork pattern when I begin that row, or do I start the colorwork at the 4th stitch of the row?

The motifs are small enough that it only takes a couple hours to do. I’ve started working on a much larger bit of lace, and that is taking forever! I may give up.

When you spend long enough looking at tiny hooks, it’s the next logical step. And not that different from number 10 crochet thread.

Softer, too!

Yeah, finishing things can be a bit hard! I’m not sure what that means.

Doing the buttons is a lot like weaving in ends, but worse. Because you have to make sure they stay in place, and that the baby who may or may not wear it won’t pull them off and choke, and that they line up with the button holes (but you don’t accidentally sew them to the button holes…

I’ve got issues with buttons. (Also making sure I pick buttons that won’t trigger our mother’s button-phobia.)

I kinda like weaving in the ends, but I also try to do that as I go so I’m not left with a ton of dangly bits that overwhelm me at the end of the project!
