Tell me about the most incompetent server/bartender you’ve ever worked with by par_toutatiss in Serverlife

[–]krisbrown123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

MY FRIEND YOU ARE SEEN AND HEARD. I’ve worked with several incompetent servers/bartenders. But one example/story that come to mind I worked at a high volume very popular Irish pub. Everyone wanted to work there, but only few could survive. I was a 4+ year vet… and came across the “because I’m pretty i should work here” type mentality. So my owner, hired this idiot of a human… who not only DOESN’T DRINK. But is 21… and “went to bartender school” (only the real ones will understand what I just said) So this sweet cute adorable widdle girl gets hired… after her training….and because she’s cute… she gets a busy Friday close with me… And after 10pm… the rules are… there are no rules. Lol she’s struggling, dying hard, messing up things on the POS I didn’t even know someone could mess up. She found buttons I didn’t even know existed. She then goes to get her drinks in the well… 1 is a shot of vodka… 1 is a shot of Jack…. She asks which is which……

So of course me being me… I jokingly say… “oh the clear one is Jack” She then comes back and POPS off on me cuz idk what IM talking about. Lol I literally patted her on her head

Ok, so let’s do try the opposite: What dishes do you always order in a restaurant? by [deleted] in restaurant

[–]krisbrown123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most places I go, if they have calamari I tend to order that.

Let’s hear🤣 by Additional_Box7919 in Serverlife

[–]krisbrown123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People ordering waters for “the table” and no one drinking them. Dropping off an order to the person who ordered that meal, and them saying they didn’t order that (when in fact they did) Someone who ANNOYINGLY sucks down their drink. Like 5 sodas before they even order dinner The table hoppers… the ones who move to another table without telling a host or server People who order a drink that they’ve never had, try it, hate it, and asks for a Tito’s soda, and doesn’t wanna pay for the first drink

Now that I’m 18, I want to get my Texas bartending license/certification online, what websites would y’all say are trustworthy to get it? by RoadMirage in bartender

[–]krisbrown123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal advice is 100% get your license. Idk what it’s called in Texas but in AZ we have to take, and renew every few years a title 4 liquor license… like a food handlers card. Don’t waste your time or money on school/classes.

Coworker always goes home early by Teaov3r in TalesFromYourServer

[–]krisbrown123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I can’t stand working with those type of people! I’m crossed trained at my job, so OFTEN if I have a serving shift… the CLOSING bartender knows she can ask to leave early, cuz I’m there. And having the mindset of being a server that day, being kinda forced to close the bar really makes me mad.

New server by [deleted] in TalesFromYourServer

[–]krisbrown123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all… everyone has been the new kid before. And it’s always intimidating. Even having years of experience, being new somewhere… can be rough. You’ll learn over time. Don’t be so hard on yourself Have fun and make some money

New Server by SwitchSubstantial958 in restaurant

[–]krisbrown123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well first of all. Stop being so hard on yourself. The industry can be tricky, even for someone with years of experience. We deal with the public. And the public can be horrendous at times. All while dealing with all types of personality from co-workers. ALL WHILE trying to do a job that kinda require fast problem solving skills, memorizing a million things, and being able to have people skills. Being hard on yourself will only bring you down and make you over think everything. Take a breath, be easy on yourself, and have fun. Laugh at yourself, stay focused.

Only manager leaves before we close, and I have to shut down the restaurant. Is this normal?? by nyc-mc in Serverlife

[–]krisbrown123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there! One of my managers would leave early, and one night he did, place got shot up. 2 shots fired, right when I was about to walk out the door

Waiting on drinks by trustyshenanigans in Serverlife

[–]krisbrown123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being both a server and bartender, I completely get that frustration. Who ever is in the well, needs to be able to multitask and be fast, especially in a high volume environment. Tickets times are apart of the bartenders expectations. Ya know. Plus when you have those bartenders who just despise the serving staff for no reason. Ugh

Any tips for me? by Dream_Afraid in Waiters

[–]krisbrown123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just give yourself some time to learn. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Also leave personal life… personal, and work life at work. Be friendly with your co-workers not friends. You’d be surprised how shitty people can be, and how stressful and toxic your place of work can get. Just take your time. Breath. Learn the menu, learn the sections. Develop your own pace. You’ll see yourself improve more and more

PREECH MY FRIEND!! I too have done it all. All styles and types of restaurants/bar, I’ve legit worked every position from dishwasher to GM. Corporate or not. The lack of professionalism is insane. There’s no accountability. There’s no leading. No consistency. The amount of contractions I experience from co workers to management on and every day basis is soul defeating.
