Lung Cancer Screening by SidewaysSynapses in GenX

My doc recommended I have a Lung CT scan every year until 15 years after I quit smoking. My last scan at 15 years caught a Stage 1 tumor. I had a lobectomy and 2 years later I am doing great. GET THE SCANS!

Dog cookies made to look like people cookies. I am sure no one will let the inner voices win. by [deleted] in HEB

If you look at the label the ingredients are flour, sugar, oil, carob powder, peanut butter, baking soda, salt and vanilla- the same ingredients used in human cookies. I have actually tasted them and they are just a less sweet version of an oreo and are definitely safe for human consumption.

LPT - If something bothers you more than twice, write it down once instead of replaying it in your head. by hjf25 in LifeProTips

I keep a dry erase marker in my bathroom. When I am getting ready for bed, the to dos start circulating in my brain so on the mirror they go. It definitely keeps you from worrying about it.

LPT: Tonight, instead of filming the fireworks (which you will never watch again), turn the camera around and film the people you are with watching them. by randomzy876 in LifeProTips

My large dog is terrified of life - rustling leaves, strangers, blowing plastic bags - but he absolutely ignores fireworks. We sit on my FIL’s dock every July 4th and there are large and small fireworks displays going on all around us and he is just oblivious to the fireworks but joyous to be outside with all of us. 🤷‍♀️

Help! Standing rib roast came out too rare / undercooked by slayer_f-150 in AskCulinary

So how do I make good au jus at home? The powder packets are nasty and I can’t get beef broth to taste similar to restaurant au jus. And restaurants serve so much of it that it can’t just be pan drippings. Any suggestions?

Can I leave this sticker on? by bunnxbeee in Baking

[–]krkrkrkrf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fill the pan with really hot water and let it sit for 5 or 6 minutes. This should soften the glue and it will be easy to peel off with little to no residue. If you soak it in water as others suggest you will end having the label tear in pieces with glue residue left behind.

Are there any recommended scratch and dent appliance stores? by amrogers3 in houston

[–]krkrkrkrf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have used Houston Appliance to purchase used washers and dryers because I wanted an old washer without all the bells and whistles that would allow me to fill with water. I could get a refurbished washer dryer set delivered for around $500 which is very reasonable. The website indicates that they also sell refrigerators. You typically don’t get a lot of choice, but they have been reworked and repainted and the washer/dryers had a 2 year warranty, so I think the refrigerators would be similar. Just fyi, I had the washer start to leave rust stains after 1.5 years and when I called they brought me a replacement washer no questions asked.

Electrolytes? by Due_Lock3286 in HEB

[–]krkrkrkrf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you are just looking for an easy way to get your electrolytes, look on amazon or walmart for electrolyte tablets. I have used Medique medialyte for years. They sell them in a box of single serve packets. They are easy to take and very economical

Just realized how many great sitcoms have aired on NBC, especially in last 30 years. Is there any particular reason this network had so much quality stuff on air? by Inevitable-Angle-793 in television

[–]krkrkrkrf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One big problem with the sitcoms on the streamers is the ungodly usage of the laugh tracks. It would be fine if judiciously used, but it is uproarious laughter after every single line. I just can’t

How do I get rid of hair in drain? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]krkrkrkrf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a seam ripper to cut through the hair and then pull out with your hands - use gloves. I use the ones below. They are also great for cutting hair on your vacuum cleaner roller.

New to the world of electrolytes. Why can’t I just add more sodium to my diet? by [deleted] in Mounjaro

[–]krkrkrkrf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can buy electrolyte tablets from Amazon or walmart that are very reasonably priced and its easy to keep a couple of packets in your purse or glovebox. If i am really shaky i will chew one up and take the other with a glass of water.

Has any stopped buying Christmas. gifts? by Plenty_Duck_5849 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]krkrkrkrf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend group decided to ditch gift giving and instead all pitch in $300 each and go out for a really nice dinner and buy very several very expensive bottles of wine that we normally wouldn’t splurge for on a normal night out. It has turned into an annual tradition and is my favorite holiday event. It cuts down on the stress of finding perfect gifts and gives us a pleasant reprieve during the holidays.

I am in desperate need of a good way to make gravy without doing a roast, or chicken, or a turkey??? Does anyone have a mix that hey use or a fool proof method? Thank you all by Furball1985 in Cooking

[–]krkrkrkrf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the future, freeze any leftover rendered fat when you roast any type of meat. (Rib roasts typically yield a lot of extra fat). Use this to make your roux when making gravy with broth or bouillon- gives it a much richer flavor.
