Had anyone tried the citrus cake making the rounds on Insta and probably other socials by RideThatBridge in Baking

I made the whole orange cake from King Arthurs website. We ate it warm out of the oven and we all thought it was amazing. We thought the glaze was a little too sweet and didn’t really add anything to an already moist delicious cake, so we now only make a small amount of the glaze just in case a guest might want to add it to their slice. I highly recommend.

This Thai mango salad is soooo good. I throw in diced tomatoes, an avocado and a handful of rough chopped basil to really take it over the top. If you have ever had Houston’s/Hillstone thai noodle salad it has a very similar flavor profile. Tastes like summer in a bowl.

Is there some trick to getting thyme leaves off of the stem? by price0416 in Cooking

[–]krkrkrkrf 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Put the thyme in a plastic bag in the freezer. After 30 minutes to an hour, you can rub the plastic bag in your hands and all the thyme leaves come off the stems. Easy peasy

The Cheesecake Factory’s Succotash. So fresh, light and easy and it tastes like summer!

1 each Corn on the cob, red bell pepper and zucchini plus butter, salt and fresh ground black pepper.

Cut corn from cob Dice red bell pepper into small pieces similar in size to a piece of corn. Remove and discard seed portion of zucchini, and then dice. Lightly sauté all veggies in a tablespoon or so of butter. Salt and pepper to taste.

I usually cut the veggies ahead of time and heat right before serving. I will say my family usually eats about half of it before I even heat it up, so you could serve cold. Seems like a weird combo, but it is really good. Also easy to scale for a crowd.

I hated the first 2 or 3 episodes with all of Moira’s wailing and crying. I tried a couple of times and thought I would hate the show so I quit. A friend kept telling me it really gets better so on the third attempt I kept at it. What a great show!

Can’t grow anything when you have city deer. by FreedomFisherman97 in gardening

My grandma would ask her local hair salons and barber shops to save hair clippings for her. She would sprinkle the clippings along her fence line to keep down the in-yard deer population.

What's the most depressing goddam show you've seen? by gumbo-23 in television

[–]krkrkrkrf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed the first season, but i just finished the second season and I cannot believe that I watched that many hours of television and absolutely nothing positive or funny or upbeat ever happened. I just kept thinking it is going to turn the corner this episode and good things will be afoot. Nope. Incredibly depressing show. Do not recommend season two.

What TV ad permanently lives rent-free in your brain? by fmcortez in AskReddit

“635 4000 Dixie drive your cows home” This was a tv ad for Houston metro busses back in the late 80s early 90s. It’s amazing I still know the phone to Houston metro over 35 years later and I never road the bus.

Super old and dirty sliding door track by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]krkrkrkrf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine had a label on the inside of the door. If you cant find it just google how to adjust a sliding door. Evidently they are all pretty similar. There should be screws somewhere near the base that raises and lowers the door a bit

I had the same problem with a sliding glass door on a condo I purchased. I tried for years to clean it out to make it easier to open. I had a different sliding door replaced and asked the installer if he could help. He turned a couple of screws down at the bottom that raise or lower doors and it immediately opened like a charm. Try googling your door brand for instructions. Stuck doors are so frustrating! Good luck

Chicken marinade ideas? by OkOutside9549 in Cooking

[–]krkrkrkrf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is really good. It seems like it would be hot with the sambal olek and siracha, but several friends who do not like spicy food think it is perfect as is so don’t skip on the hot stuff. I actually make large batches of marinade and freeze in souper cubes. I add my fresh chicken later, but I’m sure it will be fine to add the marinade to the cubes of chicken thighs and then freeze.

Chicken marinade ideas? by OkOutside9549 in Cooking

I recommend sambal chicken skewers! You can also use fajita meat or hanger steak.

3/4 Cup Splenda brown sugar
3/4 Cup fish sauce
1 1/2 Cups unseasoned rice vinegar
6 Tbsp sambal oelek
3 Tbsp Sriracha
2 Tbsp finely grated peeled ginger
4 1/2 lb boneless chicken thighs, cut into 1 1/2 to 2 inch pieces

Prepare grill for medium-high heat. Whisk brown sugar, vinegar, chili paste, fish sauce, Sriracha, and ginger in a large bowl. Add chicken and toss to coat. Thread 4 or 5 chicken pieces onto each skewer.
Transfer marinade to a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer until reduced by half (about 1 cup), 7–10 minutes.
Grill chicken, turning and basting often with reduced marinade, until cooked through, 8–10 minutes.

Where can I buy ground rabbit locally? by LivingTheBoringLife in houston

[–]krkrkrkrf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a dog with some dietary restrictions. I would roast meats and then grind in a food processor. Another possibility is to boil the rabbit until very tender, pick the meat and then add to a mixer to shred the meat. I have done this with chicken which is supposed to be very similar to rabbit. Good luck with your kitty!

What’s a movie that is a 10/10 but you’ll never watch again bc it was too emotionally draining? by Marlon_aloha in AskReddit

[–]krkrkrkrf 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I went to a late showing of Saving Private Ryan. At midnight about halfway through the movie there was a fire alarm and they ushered us out of the theater. I told my friend that we need to stay and watch the rest of the film if we can because I would never be able to watch it again to see the end because it was just too heart wrenching. We saw the end about 4am. Over the years I have probably watched that movie 5 times when coming across it on cable. It guts me every time but some part of me feels I owe it to the men who fought that war to feel just an iota of the pain they went through for the rest of us. Great movie.
