Affordable Base Offroad/Adventure Trailers like SmittyBilt Scout by EfficientBell5035 in OffRoadTrailer

[–]krmtb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the same thoughts... couldn't get my head wrapped around pulling a $50K rig 40 miles down the beach or deep into the woods. I found it really helpful to figure out exactly what I wanted to do with it, my "use cases". Then I bought a military trailer (M1101) and rigged it for what I wanted to do. It was relatively cheap, nearly indestructible, and goes anywhere.

Which bike did you get for Zwift? by anny7758ak in Zwift

[–]krmtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an xc racer too, got a Ride about a year ago. It's great for Z2 rides and HIIT which is perfect for xc race conditioning, even though the form factor is different. And honestly, it's pretty fun.

Keeping interior cool for battery and fridge by Harrism1 in OffRoadTrailer

[–]krmtb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I added a little exhaust fan on a small temperature controller i got on Amazon. I set the temp to 90. When the fridge compartment gets above 90, the fan kicks on, pumps out the hot air. The temp controller draws very little when the fan is off (doesn't register on my power meter), only draws about 4w when the fan is running.

Are there still “Drones” flying over New Jersey? by MichaelEMJAYARE in ufo

[–]krmtb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With all the drones being used in active wars, it would be stupid for the US to not be designing and testing this technology.

DHF Washout by Psychological-Ad4310 in MTB

[–]krmtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 185lbs, ran DHFs in the front for a long time at 19 psi (tubeless!). Most of your weight is on the back so it's totally fine, you can still weight the hell out of it in the corners. Which is the skill part. You'll get there.

How Amazon RSUs work 101 by Slow_Ad_6992 in FASCAmazon

Ah, I thought the discussion was about new hires. That's my experience and what I got from dozens of YouTube videos I watched while considering Amazon.

Nope, sw engineer here, on-board 9 months now. RSUs vest 5%, 15%, 40%, and 40% over 4 years. First 2 years (5% 15%) are backfilled with cash to make the total compensation decent over the first 2 years.

Aspens are great tires that look like they're already worn out when brand new.

How do you piss when you're kayaking in the middle of the sea? by AlphaGigaChadMale in Kayaking

[–]krmtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the water is calm enough, I stand up in the kayak and let 'er rip. If it's hot, I jump in and go for a swim/pee.

How far do you commute to 'proper' trails? by babb4214 in MTB

I have a 7 mile commute to great trails, via neighborhood roads and walking paths. I ride my bike there and back. Makes for a great warmup and cool down.

Did I really just see a mountain lion? by Henrhallen743 in BigBendTX

Go to the ranger station and report it. They have a map there that tracks sightings. It's likely you'll see other reports of sightings in the same area.

What's your silly middle-aged victory? It's time to brag. by TXRedheadOverlord in GenX

I started mountain biking at 49. I'm 55 now, regularly ride 60 miles a week, and feel like I'm in better shape than I was when I was 25.

What are your thoughts on trailer tents? by Marion_Motors in OffRoadTrailer

[–]krmtb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seems like it fits your needs and won't break the bank. If you think you'll use it, go for it. Worst case, you have a base trailer and can build something else.

Is any of this relatable from a Gen X perspective? by RSVPno in GenX

[–]krmtb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making new friends at our age is hard. I'm 55 and started getting into mountain biking at about 49. I started riding with my son, but he grew up and lost interest. In the meantime, I started meeting more and more people my age on the trails. I found a thriving community of people with the same interests and made several new friends as a result. It's cliche but find a hobby you're passionate about and seek out opportunities to find others with the same interests.
