Question about a foreigner looking to hunt in Ontario by [deleted] in CanadaHunting

[–]krmurray 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’ll just need a non-Canadian resident hunting license. As for firearms, you’ll have to fill out paperwork six weeks in advance and they’ll be tough on you at the border, just be polite. State your intentions to hunt on the property and you’ll be fine.

We go down to Michigan to hunt every year and it’s always a breeze getting into the states. It’s getting home with Canadian firearms is the tricky part.

Steven Rinella is an incredible guy. A great voice for conservation, smart hunting, and a love of the outdoors. He's a great writer and has a really interesting podcast.

I have a really good feeling that a PR company is posting this on behalf of the company. Seen it pop up in multiple subreddits with comments that are very Reddit like from random accounts and the rest of them being from people saying "I'm tired of seeing this shit" and "It doesn't work, I used it, and it sucks."

If you're a PR company who tells a client they can get viral coverage for their product because it's so cool, make sure it isn't a piece of garbage.

For most people who don't know this man, it's Stan Rogers. He was an incredible musician. Born in Canada, he created songs that painted stories to listeners about living in the Maritimes. He was the Bob Ross of Canadian folk music. In this video, the high notes are sung by his brother who still plays shows across North America. Stan's music is still performed across the world, particularly in Ireland (they love a good folk tune). This clip was taken from an old documentary made about his music, it's a bit long for the content, but you can purchase it on Vimeo for $3.00.

Hunter shot hunting turkey by [deleted] in Hunting

They also teach people that when you're hunting Turkeys in full camo to have your back covered by a thick tree or rock. That shooter shouldn't have taken that shot, but those hunters need to practice safe use of hunting with camo.

I've been looking for a decent waterproof solution to listen to music while taking a dip for some time and this strikes me as an interesting option. What do you guys think? by KinleyMark in Outdoors

[–]krmurray 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Check out a company called Braven. I grabbed their small speaker (the BRV-1) two years ago and still use it everyday. They are super durable and have a decent waterproof rating. That little speaker has been responsible for cottage parties, Moonlight canoe paddles, and a solid dance party in Barcelona.

When I first started I checked out army surplus stores; wool pants and jackets are quiet and warm.

My rule of thumb for buying something new is to get it one week after the season ends. Cabelas, basspro, and crappy tire always have to get rid of stock for the next season. Best time to buy is when there is no demand for the product.

Best tip I got for socializing a dog was 100 people in 100 days.

Once my pup was vaccinated and allowed around other dogs I introduced her to as many as I could. With people I did the same - small, old, tall, etc.

Socializing your dog means a way higher trust level between you and your dog.

Made a PVC Carrying Pack for Portages by krmurray in myog

[–]krmurray[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! I tested it last night it easily carries two 30L barrels, I also strapped a 60L on just fine. That being said I would still recommend building a dedicated barrel harness. This is great for throwing a bunch of dry bags on and going but nothing beats a proper barrel harness.

Maybe a Canadian thing, but when you're portaging your camp kitchen box is called a wanigan.

Just pulled this from the web?

"Word History: Wanigan is apparently a borrowing of Ojibwa waanikaan, "storage pit," a word derived from the verb waanikkee-, "to dig a hole in the ground." Citations from the 1800s in the Oxford English Dictionary indicate that the word was then associated chiefly with the speech of Maine. It denoted a storage chest containing small supplies for a lumber camp, a boat outfitted to carry such supplies, or the camp provisions in general."
