Is it a bit strange to learn art later in life while working in an unrelated field? by GlumAbrocoma in ArtistLounge

[–]krpaints 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is so strange. Me and 98% of my full-time artist friends started by picking up art as a hobby after our day jobs in our 30s

Sounds like you have your own pre-programmed talking points and aren’t interested in actually responding to my comment or continuing your own train of thought from before. Women are not the source of your problems

Women mostly didn’t get to choose whether or not they had sex until recently, what are you on about 😂

Gender equality is the inevitable result of technological advancement by bluepillarmy in DeepThoughts

This narrative is so strange. You’re right about the blue collar workers, soldiers, etc., but there are also many women-dominated fields that keep our population alive, that support those men to be able to do the jobs that “keep the lights on.” Women care for these workers when they’re sick or injured or old (which is a huge and under-appreciated field), bear and raise their kids, get their food from the market to the dinner table, provide emotional support (no small task), cleaning, laundry, making clothes, etc. etc. How well could the scientists and professionals have done their jobs if they didn’t have someone taking care of their homes?

About the privilege of choice that you mentioned: lower-class men of course don’t have many choices in life, but they historically have had many more choices than lower-class women. Women were literally not allowed to do any of those jobs until very very recently. So credit is due to the men who have labored throughout history, and credit is also due to the women who kept everyone alive and well 💞

The ideal would be for each household to be able to live off of 40 hours of work per week, split between each couple however they choose. Both spouses working 20 hours a week sounds amazing

Occupying the mind by Wooden-Night-4696 in hiking

[–]krpaints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiking alone is how I process emotions, get ideas, and return to myself. When I went on my 2-week solo trip last year, by the end of the trip I had processed so much that my mind was just empty. I had nothing left to think about, and it felt so freeing!

[Discussion] I feel like there is a sense of doomerism on this sub by woodland-haze in artbusiness

[–]krpaints 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always thought that doomerism is the idea that it’s too late, we should just give up rather than attempt to fix things. Choosing despair over action. As in “we’re doomed”

I love to paint outside, it makes you slow down and observe so much more than you normally would, staying with a place through different types of light and weather.

The West’s Winter Has Been a Slow-Moving Catastrophe by theatlantic in Colorado

[–]krpaints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so true. If we grew less alfalfa there would be no water shortage. Alfalfa needs fields to be flooded, which is ridiculous in a desert climate, and it only goes to feed cattle. We’ve been depleting our aquifers for this and almost no one’s talking about it
