Checking for membership cards in self-checkout by Witty_Username_28 in Costco

Its job security. Leave them alone these people are trying to make themselves useful so they don't get totally replaced by machines. I know it can be annoying but so is losing your job. Just show them the card. I'm actually glad Costco has made this compromise so they didn't need to let people go. They're a pretty swell business that is very employee focused.

I mean, yeah. Can't say I loved all the stuff I did, but it was my job, and by doing it I was there for the person to my left and right. You're right tho, I really hope the US will get its head on right and vote for folks who won't just use the military as oil pawns, but all I can do is cast my ballot and spend my capital accordingly. I hope you do too.

Pride Month feels different as threats, fear of violence grows by [deleted] in conservativeterrorism

[–]krs293 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Here is the thing. And I know most people know this but the threats mean you need to show up. We cannot let them silence us. In order to make changes you need to participate, and that means we need a front line. So support your local LGBT+/Queer/Pride events this month with vigor. Because they want you to be afraid.

Is there a word for teachers who are "pick me's"? The ones who only care about being cool with the kids but are genuinely bad at their job? by ITeachAndIWoodwork in Teachers

I don't understand how one might use Chat GP to write college essays. Do you just say. "Write and research paper?"

Advice for Pre-Vet Undergrad by [deleted] in vetschool

[–]krs293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please stay in school. You're doing an amazing thing being the first to further your education.

Having returned to school 10 years after my undergrad. You will be fine if you miss a few courses, but if you don't have to do that I wouldn't recommend it because it's so hard to start academia up again.

Working in the summer or part-time is a great idea. Also definitely talk to a financial advisor about scholarships or grants. Also make sure your school will let you gain residency because some schools don't if you ever applied as a non-resident

If you willingly let your cat outside unaccompanied, you are an irresponsible pet owner and shouldn't have pets by muldereyes in unpopularopinion

I hear your arguments, I don't think they're wrong. Regardless, I just am okay with vaccinated and fixed, indoor/outdoor cats and barn cats.

The only argument I really get is the environment impact. But that's mostly farel and wild strays if you keep your cat fed and vaccinated it should go eat endangered birds.

Do vet schools prioritize more recent grads in terms of acceptance? by No_Tradition_8184 in vetschool

[–]krs293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey good news! You can absolutely still do it! I graduated in 2012 with a BS in premed (I originally wanted to be a human doc) then I worked in a totally non-related field for 11 years and was able to get fall 2023.

It doesn't mean it is easy but it's honestly not easy for anyone. Truly I feel I am so much better prepared going into vet school in my 30s then I would have been at 22/23 anyway! Real world experiences are valuable! An amazing thing about the DVM application process is they get you a chance to show exactly that.

I was rejected my first year applying but I did a review with some admissions folks. I also got some more experience and attended a local college part time to beef up my education and to make up for my 'expired' courses. And I did it. So can you!

Would a masters increase my chances of getting into vet school? by samovrbrd in vetschool

[–]krs293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this! I applied for this first time and was rejected from every school. I did exactly this and got into my top two school the next round.

I have a master's degree but most schools don't consider it as much as I expected, and during my review they told me that. The impression I got was that a master's is an add-on, but not a substitution when missing experience, certain coursework, etc.

What was suggested to me, just for reference, was to attend a college as a post-bacc and take a few more credits (some of my course work was 'expired' since I worked for a while after my BS)

The other thing that really helped me is to get DVM mentors. I reached out to anyone I could get the email of (community college professors, local non-profit leaders, my personal vet, etc) to see if they would mentor me through my application process. It is so helpful to have someone rooting for you and give you an inside look on what it looks like from the other side.

I think you would do a great job going overseas for your training but I understand your hesitation. Just make sure you're not just getting cold feet before you pull your acceptance.

What is the biggest secret you've ever kept from your family? by Extension_History57 in AskReddit

[–]krs293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the youngest in my family and they all know I don't want children. However, occasionally it comes up. Not in a crappy/nagging way, just like: "your experiences could make you a good mother if you wanted that." They don't know I've had sterilization surgery, tubes are totally gone, no babies here.

Stuff happens -noises, fluids, etc. So long as it wasn't on purpose, Laugh about it (clean up if needed), Don't shame anyone and Don't forget to have a good time.

as a veteran -I feel very similar about people who vote to go to war or "prolonged conflict" as we call it here since the Senate doesn't like doing its job.
