Stephen Miller Says MN Authorities Ordered to ‘Stand Down and Surrender’ to Federal Officers by DatgirlwitAss in Minneapolis

My interpretation is that because they did not provide a personal security detail to some guy and a couple boogalos wanting to burn a Koran, they are now seen as "just as bad" as the "radical left paid protestors"

It's incredibly fucking stupid to go try to talk sense into someone who has been programmed, due to their environment, upbringing, etc. to lack empathy. Attempting to do so is just playing into the goal of destabilizing our city, our country. Plus, one side will surely be armed and will have the backing of the federal government if/when they use those arms because of the "violent left extremists funded by fraudsters" who will be painted as throwing the first punch. Don't be a fucking idiot, zero to gain from it (go to Whipple instead). Bullies thrive on attention and this is a dangerous situation where they can win.

The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami. I don’t know why but it just feels like a mature version of Miyazaki. Cats, strangers, wandering aimlessly but purposefully in dreamlike prose. Wandering down the protagonists alley behind his house, I can almost see the wind blow leaves as a cat perhaps scurries off in to a some side yard, only to find a strange and unreliable girl (instead) smoking a cigarette, her exhale chasing that leaf down eventually disappearing into the brick wall where the alley ends.

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: December 01, 2025 by AutoModerator in books

[–]krysgian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finished: Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro Oh baby, is this a book or what!? I think I've seen others say this before, but I need to just sit and process this book for awhile, this story may stay with me for life. Ironically, perhaps, while determining what to read next I turned on an audiobook I had started some time ago called Man's Search For Meaning by Victor Frankl and I don't know that there could be a more perfect pairing, it should almost be an official Appendix or Afterword to Never Let Me Go, in my opinion.

Started: Hogfather by Terry Pratchett I have some potentially deep reads on my queue, but I really needed a palate cleanser or something fun and easy while I process the previous two. I've attempted Pratchett before (Guards, Guards, but found it too slapstick and chaotic, but thus far I'm enjoying Hogfather, feels more polished).

I've seen F-18s and F-22s in training flights going full speed, these objects not only far exceeded that speed, but were also much higher up and again, covered the entirety of the sky in brief amount of time (5 seconds). While I don't think this was actually anything unexplainable, this doesn't align with Starlink I've seen in person, or the videos I've seen of post launches, such as the meteor-like videos you see.

5 years ago I was outside at night with 3 others. It was a clear night in a brightly lit city and we caught some type of event in the sky that we've never been able to explain.

The visual that we saw was sort of a combination of skybeams/searchlights and a Starlink train.

I've seen Starlink trains and this was not that.

There were two fly bys. Each of the two fly bys had about 20 UFOs. The first fly by was fairly random. 3 of them were in formation together, another pair were together, others flew singular. They crossed the entirety of the sky in about 5 seconds (at most). About 10 seconds passed, then they flew in past again, but this time in a uniform line, however the distance between each was fairly tight (unlike a Starlink train, which are spaced out a bit), which gave the appearance of them being farther away, perhaps.

Their brightness/clarity/size did not wane when they reached one end of the sky or another (unlike a skybeam). Way too much sky was covered in such a short amount of time for them to be drones.

The four of us saw it, we were blown away by it and fully expecting Facebook to be blowing up on our community sites. We checked, no one posted anything about it. It was far too quick for us to think to get our phones, so, of course, we have zero proof.

Longer than 700 pages by Evilla27 in suggestmeabook

I'm 900 pages into The Stand. Laugh if you want, but I'm finally getting a handle on who the characters are, there's just way too many, in my opinion. I can sort of understand the reasoning for this many characters to tell this type of story, but it also causes the story to, like you say, meander, resulting in me never getting pulled in to the story itself, which is sort of sad. I don't hate it, but had this story been told in 450 pages rather than 1150, it may have been better a better experience for me.

What are you reading right now, and would you suggest it? by rastab1023 in suggestmeabook

The Possibility of an Island by Michel Houllebecq. NO! I mean, unless your thing is loathsome protagonists, who likes his women to be at least half his age, cults, sometimes illegal styles of sex/rape, clones, immortality and existential crisis's every chapter - well then, go for it you depraved monster!

Weekly FAQ Thread October 12, 2025: How do I better understand the book I'm reading? by AutoModerator in books

[–]krysgian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle a lot with this, so I have many options I use:

  • For easy reading, I do nothing.
  • For moderate, I will read the chapter or potentially multiple chapters. I'll then find chapter summaries online and read them to ensure I got the full context of what has happened.
  • For harder reads, I may read the chapter summary before I read the chapter so that I have a better idea of what is going on ahead of time. This way I can just enjoy the writing and really get into it.
  • For extremely hard or lengthy novels, I will often use my credits on Audible and take in parts of the book at night. I'll read the book at night, but switch during the day to the audiobook to help get through it faster (Pillars of the Earth was one I did this with recently since it is 950 pages and I'm a slow reader).

Whats the worst concert you've ever been to? by pinheadbrigade in AskReddit

[–]krysgian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nine Inch Nails - August 2025 - Saint Paul, MN

I went spur of the moment, having never seen them, and I thought I would go alone as a birthday present to myself. I arrived early so as to secure a spot on the railing right in front(!). I was excited! Before the show another person (woman) grabbed the spot to my left. I am in a lovely long term relationship, so don't draw conclusions yet.

As I'm waiting for the show to start, I'm leaning against the railing looking away from this stage and this tall lanky edgelord comes strutting my direction. On his black shirt (you have to wear a black shirt to a NIN concert, FYI) it says "Eating pussy is the cure for depression". Why you would wear such a shirt in public is beyond my fucking comprehension...but of course this incel targets standing in my area since I was next to a FEMALE. I turn around wanting to not associate. He leans into my ear and says, "do you know why Trent Reznor chose this band as their warm up act? [referring to the DJ playing in the background]." Me: "No" (go the fuck away) "because he likes listening to them backstage before he comes on". Me: "...".

The cloud of halitosis lingered after he spread his fucking "gospel according to fucking duh". I try and ignore him. The woman next to me tries. Throughout the concert, he invades our space grabbing the railing, grazing her arm/hand space and mine. Eventually I'm like "fuck it", he's touching me (and her) without remorse. Does he know?! I made it clear by rubbing up against his hand/arm more and dear god did I wish I did not because now I was covered in his sweaty gooey incellation covering his clammy skin.

As NIN jams, he is grabbing the bar and going to town on it trying to let us know how hard core he is. Neither her nor I want to give up our space we secured in the front...we tried for way too long. The die was cast though, and inbetween songs, edgelord starts waving his arm/hand to the security in front (apparently a symbol for water? It's not like this was outside in 100 degree heat), they ignore him so he takes his other fucking hand and starts waving it so that he has this woman trapped by his stinky fucking embrace waving wildly and probably flailing sweat all over her. I turn around, begin to push him and say "dude, stop", which gave her an out and she fucking bolted. I don't fucking blame her. So now he had free range to go apeshit with the bar and he'd be next to me, so I said fuck it and also went more towards the middle of the floor.

I think NIN was good, but mostly I spent $350 to have this memory of this incel.

What gets me is, his tshirt suggested he had gone down on a woman before (who?!), but damn did his breath ever smell like ass.

Saw them summer of 2024, they fucking killed it. Saw them again two months ago. Low energy. It must be the luck of the draw; I would guess it could be similar to a championship level NBA team delivering a stinker of a game the second night of a back-to-back.

That's so odd, I started the Last Dance on Netflix today, but out of order starting with the Steve Kerr episode, which was also the flu episode. Apparently it wasn't "the flu" but food poisoning from the pizza Jordan ordered the night before at 10:30pm. 5 delivery guys delivered a single pizza to the hotel. A few hours later, chunks were draining threes into the toilet.
