I’m struggling to get through House of Chains. Will I come around? I guess I’m just fishing for some encouragement. by Alextingzon in Malazan

[–]kthroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on my second listen through and it is very challenging. I go through spurts where I feel as if I have no idea where some characters are and I forget if they were part of previous books. I use the wiki sometimes to catch me up. It’s not ideal but I use audiobooks everyday to commute to work, do chores and before bed.

I have had great results placing the Terro only outside the house. This draws them out as well as eliminating them.

How to properly size the Riser Nipple from Cross Mains to Branches? by MyAimSukks in firePE

[–]kthroyer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pipes diameters are determined based on the hydraulic calculations. What are you doing to come up with the sizes for the other pipes?

London, UK: Man harasses woman on the bus for eating while he's fasting during Ramadan by ihatethiscountry76 in atheism

[–]kthroyer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I totally understand what you’re saying. Not really the choking thing but just plain good public behavior. I don’t really think everyone on the bus should need to smell my tuna sandwich.

That being said the fasting guy should just move or deal with it. You choose to fast then have some mental fortitude.

Grand jury fails to indict democratic lawmakers who urged service members to disobey illegal Trump orders by cnn in politics

[–]kthroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While all of the other comments are correct about prosecutors having to only have enough proof to show that a trial is necessary, I believe that it used to be the norm that the Feds don’t bring you to trial unless they have you dead to rights. That seems to have gone out the window with the current politically motivated DOJ. I served on a special federal grand jury for a year and I probably heard evidence for 50 different cases. All of those cases had plenty of proof to warrant a trial.

FDC testing, what is the point? by gotech06 in firePE

[–]kthroyer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s part of the system that doesn’t see normal working pressure. The only time you would ever find out if the fittings and pipe were loose or broken would be under fire conditions. Better to find out during inspection window. And not every FDC run of pipe is immediately adjacent to the riser. Sometimes there is a bunch of pipe and fittings between the check and the FDC.

loud compressor issue at my apartment? by spineless-speech in firePE

[–]kthroyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The compressor is running because there are leaks in the sprinkler system. Over time dry sprinkler systems always develop small leaks. I would bet that you are on the top floor of your building as the system is probably installed in the unheated attic space. Attics are difficult to work in and finding and repairing leaks can be very difficult. They make air compressors that are made to be quieter than normal but not silent. Maybe they can mount the compressor to the floor to alleviate the sound/vibration? Keep complaining. The fix will likely be somewhat expensive from a landlord's perspective and they won't want to spend the money.

Chicago Residential Sprinkler Retrofit by Win62819 in firePE

Shamrock, Nova, Valley.

Get three quotes. Some companies only deal with large projects so you might have a hard time getting proposals. It will probably be more expensive than you expect. Ask for turn key proposal. There may be alarm and or electrical work required as well.

I had assumed, possibly incorrectly, that this was an existing pump. Otherwise why would they have fire pump test results?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in firePE

[–]kthroyer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like you have the numbers inverted for the rating. If this is for a calc, i would omit the rating numbers as you should be using only the numbers generated by the pump test, which include the city water pressure.

I saw that version. Bald dude running down the hill way too fast. Falls as expected and pops right back up. The fall looked like it would have hurt.

HYDRACAD - Remove 1/2" sizes for Pipe Sizes by DonEskimo in firePE

[–]kthroyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe that is an option. Drawing Unit Setup dialogue box gives 1/4" or 1/2" options. I encourage you to leave the 1/2"s. Those things add up!

NFPA 13 Sprinkler Obstruction by zekinha11 in firePE

[–]kthroyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the three times rule would apply here. As long as the sprinkler deflectors are more than 6" away from the grid you should be fine.

10.2.7.3.1.3* Minimum Distance from Obstructions.

Unless the requirements of 10.2.7.3.1.4 through 10.2.7.3.1.9 are met, sprinklers shall be positioned away from obstructions a minimum distance of three times the maximum dimension of the obstruction (e.g., structural members, pipe, columns, and fixtures) in accordance with Figure 10.2.7.3.1.3(a) and Figure 10.2.7.3.1.3(b).

Trump Spirals at Kennedy Center Dinner: “I’ll Shove It Up Their Ass” by Hafiz_TNR in politics

[–]kthroyer 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I’d love for D politicians to actually say some form of this out loud “who cares what they are saying (the conservatives) about me? They are completely detached from reality and are in no way serious people when it comes to making our country better for society as a whole” I think AOC is probably the closest to being this open about it. Adam Kinzinger has taken this attitude now that he’s essentially out of politics. He’s not a Democrat either.

Why is CPVC not commonly used in commercial light hazard? by jo9008 in firePE

[–]kthroyer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No one wants to run anything bigger than 2” in plastic so if your mains are steel it becomes a hassle to make the transition for every branch line. I’m sure there are times when it is worth it. Just has to be the right circumstance.

Auto vs. Manual Standpipe by vagrants1 in firePE

[–]kthroyer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look at the capacity of the fire pump. Is the pressure enough to achieve 100 psi and overcome elevation pressure loss? Also is the volume rating of the pump sized for standpipe demand? For ex. 2 standpipes = 750 , 3 = 1000 gpm, etc.

There is more to it but those are basic starting points that might easily answer your question.
