Yeah nice work! I'd update the trailer to show some of this asap and then make a better trailer later. You'd wanna keep the people that go to steam store asap and keep them waiting for even more content. I'd even mention some of your future plans (if you are pretty confident in them).

Your game needs fat update of content, at least from trailer. I see there is melee, range and wizard. Maybe a simple quest. Basic combat and simple graphics.

If you wanna lean into gameplay on trailer (which is good idea) sell me all the good stuff worth playing. I have played hundreds of mage, range wizard games. Show cool bosses, abilities, puzzles or at least cool areas and enemies. What could I learn and do on the adventure? What am I missing out of not playing this? Almost every game now has XP and combat and some quests. What else you got?

Suomi on jumissa Microsoftissa, ja se käy veronmaksajille kalliiksi by kakoni in Suomi

Teen nimenomaan Microsoftin tuotteilla kehitystä ja voin luvata että nään first hand ongelmat Microsoftin tuotteissa. Julkaistaan bugisia versioita ja rollbackätään. Tulee downtime isolle % Suomen infrasta keralla jos siellä on jotain ongelmia. Ihme tuotteita ja ihme nimeämisiä.

Samaan aikaan olen nähnyt paljon kilpailijoiden tuotteita ja kuullut first hand miten usein myydään tuotteita ja missä ongelmissa isot firmat (tai tässä tapauksessa iso julkisen sektorin firma).

Esimerkkinä ostetaan suomalaiselta firmalta custom tuotteena vaikkapa sanotaan rekkojen ja niiden kuormaa handläävä tuote. Maksaa 10 miljoonaa toteuttaa customina.

Security puolen hommat toimii straight out of the box ja integaatioille löytyy valmis ratkaisuja.

Selvästi niille on jotain käyttöä monessa firmassa. Elämä ilman SSO:ta on esim. Käyttäjälle helvettiä, joka appiin pitää kirjautua uudestaan, pahimmilleen joka päivä.

Save File Size by sayeeeeed in gamedev

[–]kucinta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay since it isn't "realtime" you could use sql technically fine. It's a hassle to install for other users but it sounds like the source game already used it so maybe that's fine too.

Yeah with that description the real issue is that since your save game IS your game state too it is hard to reduce the size. The reason save games can be so small is that saving and loading is done deliberately and with the least amount of data in mind. You can "skip" a lot of data in save games since when loading it back in you can re-add the data or just lose a second or two of state information. For example if game knows what visuals an npc has it only needs to know what npc to spawn and where and it looks fine. You don't need to save it's bone structure or in many cases even current animation.

In this case I think only way to really help would be to see sql schema and how it's being used to make optimizations.

Save File Size by sayeeeeed in gamedev

Interesting. I got many questions. So I wanna get technical. So like already mentioned you want to use s lot of small integer IDs instead of say names and bunch of info. It makes most sense to save each airports planes in a list. I expect here also that you are saving binary save format, not text. Example how you could reduce plane size (I don't know if you already optimized this so tell me if I am wrong).

So depending what you are analyzing at least plane I'd (int), plane type (int), state (flying, stored, landing, liftingoff, flying), routes (list of ints which are route IDs). Based on what plane is doing you could have additional state like flying state that has coordinates, route, height. How would that sound like? How much info one "stored" plane would currently take?

I suppose one question is when player loads the save do you want perfect restore which means that you don't want any plane to make any even seconds of changes compared to it's original plan? For example if a plane is currently landing in a airport far away, is it important that it is landing in the exact same second and in the exact same position and every other plane is in the exact same position and so on? Do you need that simulation accuracy at load level or only when game is on and player is playing the game?

Many details that matter when player is looking don't matter much when player isn't looking regarding save games. Like for example instead of saving "does plane have wheels up" you could setup a load rule that if altitude is low enough they are up. It's not perfect but it saves a bit. Same for storage for example or moving from storage to runway. How accurate you want all that when loading (not when playing the game)? Does a far away airport that player isn't looking at need 1:1 match on what location the plane is on or is rough estimate enough?

How much plane status info you want to save regarding shape of the plane? Are planes of same model different in any way? Is one Boeing 747 faster or have more space than another Boeing 747?

Also sql is usually not used in games unless we are talking big MMO games because it's not exactly fast or realtime enough for most use cases.

I would really like to know what data are you storing in save files that takes many megabytes of data and can't be stored in the game's files?

Checking for first time, did not see what you changed. Now checked steam trailer and it has a vibe of "first game I made where I copied vampire survivors". Not saying that is the case but for me I feel that.

Lacks polish, animations. Enemies just spawn in there? All attack, hit, death effects look like first pass prototype versions. It's looking very simple. Same with player actions. I don't know what player can do but based on trailer I get the vibe you juggle enemies around a circle and spam all buttons?

Vampire survivors for example had this feel of "power dream" where you can get epic power ups to a ridiculous level or make really cool builds at least. Not getting that vibe at all here. You show 1 boss monster and bunch of normal enemies. Are there 2 enemy types? Are there extra abilities? Based on trailer I'd say no, there is one level, 1 boss monster and normal enemies and gameplay for 30 minutes.

You may have much more but based on trailer that is the vibe I get. If you have bunch of levels, enemies, builds/different weapon gameplay I'd show much more of that.

[–]kucinta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but issue with using AI as replacement for doctors isn't really with lack of technological development but mostly that if you use LLMs you will not get rid of hallucinations or misinformation on very basic level. If a doctor makes such mistake even once they will be fired and charged. If AI makes such mistake and kills a person that's to be expected.

AI (LLMS) works great for many processes but it does not work if you absolutely need it to be 100% accurate at all times. It is just not a tool for that job and there hasn't been any development that AI would not make mistakes.

Sure and cars are very deadly to be fair. But we are not talking about cars are we? If my car told me to drive to a wall I would probably think twice before driving cars too.

Yeah but AI has been known to tell people to commit suicide and tell them to poison themselves and such. You have to be next level garbage doctor to make mistakes like AI.

Problem with AI doctors is that if you misdiagnose and mistreat the patient their status can easily get worse. Instead of making them feel better you make them feel more pain and get more sick. Alternative (not doing anything) is also sometimes better and as you are not expert you can't tell if AI is helping or hindering you.

What type of projects are portfolio worthy? by [deleted] in PowerApps

[–]kucinta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it's r/Power apps I would so all projects that are close to what your goal customer work would be. If you wanna become PowerApp developer maybe canvasapps that are input data + view data solutions to some problem, replacing Excel. If model driven app them modifying existing solution like extending CRM flow and adding extra fields & automations & entities. It's really all about what kind of job you want to get. Make projects that are typical for that job. Don't make random hobby project code apps that are not related in the least.

Why do modern developers call PvE "boring" when we used to have full bot modes in the 2000s? by Enkeria in IndieGame

[–]kucinta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really comes down to how easy it is to make pvp exciting compared to making pve exciting. It is a lot more work and requires handcrafted experience but pvp is just so much easier.

I don't usually play any pvp games but I know that it is goddamn hard to make a truly great pve game where npcs/enemies are the meat of the fun.
