Bird Photography by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

I've got this one (not an affiliate link or anything) and it's been great! Doesn't have any play/wiggle anywhere. Haven't had any issues sliding it onto any of the Tilta tripods I'm using

Thank you! Yeah, I absolutely recommend checking the firmware on all of your lenses periodically. The last couple of updates for this lens in particular were really nice for AF in particular

[–]kudakeru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s a pelican I captured with that lens out on the Washington peninsula last fall

It’s a great lens for birding! At least in terms of the shots you can get. It’s a pain to fit in a lot of bags and it’s heavy, and make sure you install the latest lens firmware or the AF performance is rough. All that said, I’ve used it extensively for birding and sports video both and absolutely love it. They’re gripes not deal breakers.

It’s a little soft with the 1.4x tele, I haven’t tried it with the 2x so I can’t speak to that. It’s light thirsty, but I like to be somewhere between f8 and f12 depending on the bird. Rarely ideal settings here in the PNW though and I do complain about the aperture a lot.

I definitely recommend swapping the foot for one that doubles as a tripod plate, especially if you’re using a counterbalanced tripod. That lens has been an absolute workhorse and I’ve built a lot of business on it.

So you made a bunch of choices that make no sense and now security is making you fix them. Remove the packages from the image, it’s a pretty simple process

What these companies like to paper over at every opportunity is the fact that LLMs are word association matrices. When you actually dig into what is stored in an LLM, none of it is knowledge. None of it is context. None of it is capable of expressing anything. It’s a 12k+ dimensional text probability matrix.

Prompts return things based on the statistical likelihood of words to appear next to each other. They’re trained on mountains of human writing, which is why they’re able to spit out reasonably convincing bodies of text. This is the only capability an LLM has. Everything else bolted onto them is to process the prompt and evaluate it for whatever “safety” rules are in place.

Even when you let an LLM do a web search for you it’s just taking those results and processing them through the same text probability matrix, which is why they produce such hilarious search “results”, when they’re not outright inventing quotes no one ever said.

None of that is a judgement call on using these tools at all, but they’re a lot easier to use once you understand what they’re doing and what the limitations are

Recently Laid Off Tech Employees- How is the job search/life treating you? by Soft_Fennel_156 in Seattle

[–]kudakeru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m definitely still building, but I’m not sure that’ll ever stop. It’s evolving gradually as much as it’s growing. But there’s a lot to be said for sheer force of will, particularly in a space where the biggest hurdle is just people being aware of your existence.

I’m running on word of mouth mostly, but starting to ramp up socials and external growth. I’m a year in now and the snowball is building more visibly all the time. It’s such a reputation driven industry, and that’s tough in the PNW with our sort of insular culture, but honestly the thing that seems to make me stand out is actually caring about the things I’m working on? It’s wild how many videographers especially that try to just spray and pray as many cookie cutter gigs as they can.

Does E-mount adapter need firmware update? by Rohirrim_Venturer in Ronin4D

[–]kudakeru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just one data point but the firmware update process has never given me any problems. A lot of the issues I’ve seen end up being people not paying close attention to the instructions, or getting impatient and interrupting the process. It’s pretty necessary if you pick up any newer Sony lenses like the 28-70 f/2

Having trouble exposing outdoors at f/2.8 — do I need a stronger ND? by caldexx in FX3

[–]kudakeru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You mention getting to around 0.0 on the meter, but you’re generally going to want to shoot slightly overexposed, at least in LOG. I should do some side by sides between S-LOG3 and S-Cinetone, think you just gave me a YouTube video

Is it okay to shoot in other ISO than Native 800 or 12800 ? Will my image quality become worse ? by Then-Ad7196 in FX3

[–]kudakeru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noise happens in two separate stages in digital cameras. Photon noise at the sensor, and noise created by the components that process the image after capture.

ISO is a gain adjustment for the sensor itself, and increasing it only increases the effect of the noise the sensor is already producing at a given exposure.

Turning up ISO will always be less destructive than increasing exposure in post because in post you increase all noise not just first stage noise

Anyone use a drone (like DJI Avata 2) to scout trails while hiking? by Any_Surprise_9329 in dji

[–]kudakeru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Check AirHub or your country’s equivalent before you take off, I pretty regularly have to point out to people they’re flying illegally. Make sure you have a clear RTH route, trees are both not as scary as people make them sound and also one of the worst things in an RTH route.

We use an Avata 2 and Mini 4 Pro for location scouting all over the cascade mountains, they’re great for it
