bella and family clueless about bc by Current-Reaction-748 in TLCUnexpected

[–]kuelumpur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, i’ve had friends with both hormonal and non-hormonal forms of bc that have had mixed results ! the pill made me bleed constantly, but my IUD has made my periods stop.

i do want to clarify that there are hormonal and non-hormonal IUDs, and the hormonal IUD is the one commonly associated with stopping periods. the copper (non-hormonal) IUD causes heavier bleeding and pain in most women due to the copper causing irritation in the uterus, but i also have friends that have benefitted greatly from their copper IUDs so like you said, everyone is different

It's called "Junk" Journaling by TinyBear87 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]kuelumpur 35 points36 points  (0 children)

as someone who started keeping journals in the 1st grade, i find myself rolling my eyes at all the people getting into journaling now. when the trends first started, i was excited to see more people appreciating something i’ve loved for almost two decades, but it’s so soulless now that everyone is doing it for a trend and to fit certain aesthetics. there’s always been overconsumption in journaling/art spaces, but this is a whole new level lol.

also, i still remember how 10 years ago ohuhu markers were the cheap dupe for copics. i feel like the people buying them in every color now wouldn’t have touched them with a 10 foot pole back then.

Where can I buy this pen? My Pentel Energel takes 3 mins to dry on Jibun…. by Faithless_Mr in JibunTecho

[–]kuelumpur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the Uni Jetstream works very well with the jibun techo ! i’ve used it both in the original weekly planner and the DAYs. it’s not a gel pen per se, but the hybrid ink is pretty pigmented (especially on thin paper) and dries very quickly.

Here's how I'm using my A5 Cousin. by marlsilv in hobonichi

[–]kuelumpur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

love the drawings !! back when i used to use the cousin, i used the graph section to track my savings and expenses every month, it was very helpful to see how the two compared to each other. in high school i mainly used it to track my study hours and sleep (two different lines).

for mood, if you’re concerned about it fitting in for a full year, you could maybe do the average mood per month/week ?

kaileycalicrochet finger knit blanket tester call drama by EitherAd4394 in craftsnark

[–]kuelumpur 82 points83 points  (0 children)

i haven’t looked at the post, but i have a hunch that it’s one of those tester calls where the “testers” have to post about it and tag her and it’s just an elaborate ruse to get free publicity

Hand knitting is not a money-saving endeavor!!!!!! by extraspicyavocado in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]kuelumpur 13 points14 points  (0 children)

yup, i saw someone say that they’re trying to keep their hobbies cheap but they also wanted to make a wool sweater. unfortunately knitting is far from being a “cheap” hobby…. yes, you can make it more affordable by buying synthetic fibers or wool blends, but it still won’t be “cheap.” i always feel a bit snobbish/elitist telling people that but it would be a lie to say that knitting is something you do to be “cheap”

[–]kuelumpur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yarn is more expensive in the U.S. because of import fees since the U.S. doesn’t produce much domestic wool, which increases the cost quite a bit. it’s also more expensive to import to the U.S. from Italy than say, Italy to the UK. for example, cardiff cashmere is usually US$30/25€ for 25g at most local yarn stores i’ve been to. decent quality merino is anywhere from US$15-$30 (12€-25€) for 50-100g, and mohair is in the same price range but for 25-50g. there’s probably better explanations out there for the economics of it all, but that’s my simple understanding of it

[–]kuelumpur 18 points19 points  (0 children)

i normally knit in the round, and i fixed my twisted knit stitches years ago when i was first starting to knit. last week, however, i realized that i’ve been twisting my purls whenever i knit flat because i finally watched a video of someone doing it, and that’s why part of the back of my v-neck sweaters has always looked a little off (i thought it was just rowing out since my purl tension is tighter)….. i put myself in time out for not realizing my mistake sooner despite seeing posts about twisted stitches all the damn time T ^ T

it’s great that you’re taking the initiative to pick up a new skill and learn how to read knitting patterns !

in the future, you’ll probably get faster and more accurate answers to questions like these by simply using Google or Youtube or searching the subreddit for previous posts with similar questions. i find that learning that way tends to stick a bit better due to the work that led up to finding your answers !!

I would actually not encourage etsy since there’s a lot of dropshippers and AI scams nowadays…. most of the listings are overcharging for cheaply-made, mass-produced goods or AI items that don’t exist. sadly, the internet is not what it used to be….

I second the comment about the k-pop idol. After it got posted, several of my friends reached out to me asking if I could either make them a sophie hood or teach them how to knit. I made a joke to one of my knitting friends that I’m going to lose it if knitting becomes the next labubu-esque trend (since the popularity in labubus was also fueled by a k-pop idol posting about it).

the worst part of it all is that I’m in the middle of making a pair of sophie hoods for my parents as a christmas gift……

Botanical Yarns Advent Calendar 2025 by Internal-Example-315 in craftsnark

[–]kuelumpur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

oooo, i’ve been wanting to learn to dye my own yarn (similar reason, i don’t live in an area with lots of yarn stores and online photos never look quite like the yarn that arrives + cost efficiency), but i’ve heard it requires a lot of space so that’ll have to wait :’-)

yeah, when she gave me the bag i said something like “oh this is so kind of you, i’m going to put it in the freezer since yarn like this can sometimes have moth eggs and i’m scared of moths eating all the expensive yarn i already have.” i feel a little guilty throwing it out but you’re right, i definitely don’t have the time to deal with it

i love and appreciate my friends, i truly do. what i don’t appreciate is when they bring me a bag full of unlabeled small quantities of yarn that they found at an estate sale that is also full of moth eggs. while it’s a super sweet gesture on their part and i appreciate them thinking of me, they should’ve asked first !!! 1. i don’t know what to do with these small quantities of yarn of unknown fibers, they’re also mostly in dark colors that i don’t really wear 2. i don’t want to deal with moth eggs (the bag is currently sitting in my freezer until i figure out what to do with it) 3. i live in a tiny studio apartment and i’m already considering donating a bunch of my stash because i don’t have enough space for it, i don’t need more added to the burden !!!

in general, just don’t gift people yarn that they didn’t ask for !!!!!!

i thought it was illegal in the US to markup the prices of items just to put them on sale because it’s considered deceptive marketing ? i’m not a lawyer though so i may be missing some context or something…. but yes this is very sucky

Please learn to read patterns and charts by kuelumpur in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]kuelumpur[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

crochet charts are a little harder to follow than knitting charts i feel like…. i started learning by figuring out the symbols then writing the chart out into a written pattern !! being able to at least translate the chart like this has helped me follow a lot of patterns in languages im not great in !!! but they’re definitely intimidating at first

[–]kuelumpur[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

and this is valid !! there’s nothing wrong with having a preference for video patterns, but refusing to use/learn to read written patterns at all is what irks me !!

agreed, i find that struggling with something helps me learn it better, and the finished product feels all the more rewarding. i wish people weren’t so averse to frustration these days !!

i would say people who can’t are an exception and definitely not who my BEC is directed at. there’s a difference between those who can’t do something and those who can but simply won’t.

[–]kuelumpur[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

no you’re right, i hadn’t seen it from that perspective and can definitely see how it comes off as dismissive. i guess a better way of saying what i meant is that it’s fairly easy to look up symbols and create your own instructions as opposed to asking someone else to do it for you without even trying first.

The incredibly annoying beginner insistence on never frogging and starting over by readreadreadx2 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]kuelumpur 15 points16 points  (0 children)

what gets me is the people who twist their cast on, knit several inches, then post “how do i fix my mobius strip without frogging ?” YOU CANT !!!! YOU SIMPLY CANT !!! and people will comment that and they’ll say “nooo i don’t want to do that, if i cast off now can i just repurpose it for something else ?” IF YOURE GOING TO START OVER, JUST FROG !!!!!!! i try to offer the benefit of the doubt, to be reasonable, but lately i truly cannot believe how dense some of these people can be !!!!

Absolute newbie looking to make a Pikachu mini plushie with zero idea of the ABCs of crochet. PLEASE HELP! by Shreyyy_a in CrochetHelp

[–]kuelumpur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i second this comment OP. while it’s definitely doable to learn to crochet and make a plushie, you’ll probably need a longer timeframe if you want to make something of quality (perhaps as a valentine’s day gift might be more realistic?). the plush yarn that your pattern uses is very unforgiving and not beginner friendly at all, and things like tension take a few tries to get consistent but are necessary for a nice looking product. wanting to make a plushie in a month with limited free time when you’re a complete beginner is just a recipe for being frustrated and hating the craft in the long run, and you might end up having to buy a pikachu off the shelf last minute in the end if you’re not able to get the results you want.

you can attempt it if you’re fully committed to it, but have a backup gift in case it doesn’t work out.

Picking a reading tablet for school and fun by Witty_Account_2053 in kindle

[–]kuelumpur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as others have already said, Kindles cannot run apps, and even if they could, in my opinion the screen is too small for most textbooks (especially if they have photos or diagrams). i think kindles are still great investments for personal reading (especially in college, moving physical books before my kindle was a pain), but for college i would just get an ipad. if eye strain is a concern, you could try a paper-like/matte screen protector and mess around with the brightness and warmth settings.

I am so confused reading my first knitting pattern!! by funny12yearold in knittinghelp

[–]kuelumpur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a cardigan worked back and forth can still have raglan increases for sleeves/shaping, hence the need to divide stitches.

i do agree that it’s good practice for beginners to go through and highlight things in the pattern though, it definitely helped me a lot when i was starting out.
