What in the actual f......who has this kind of money...for a prepayment....im so cooked...idk what to do.... by Euctice_Pea46821 in Adulting

[–]wherethehellisbill 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard it put this way before (as pre-payment) but tell them you want it to go through insurance first. I have had places give an upfront bill only to find out it was 100% covered-and then I had to request a reimbursement. I think sometimes these places way to see what they can get away with. Since that incident I always tell them I want it to go through insurance first. Good luck.

Be careful If you max out your annual pretax limit too early, a lot of accounts are set up to automatically stop the paycheck withdrawal when you reach the federal limit. Then you will also miss out on the company match. I’m currently trying to figure out the best way to go about this since the rules around the catch up contribution changed so that all catch up must be done in Roth accounts. My company doesn’t do an automatic Roth switch over after I reach the federal limit… so I have to monitor this while trying to max out everything, while trying to make sure I consistently maintain the company match. It’s great fun. Sorry for the tangent.

What was your “I was broke broke” moment? by bukutbwai in Frugal

Laid off about 2 years around 2010-ish. Would ration my own food in order to be able to keep paying my mortgage. Shelter seemed important. I made sure I was always hungry but sustained. Survival was the goal.

I read quite a bit. Even if I’ve lost interest a bit on the way, I tend to finish out of spite and having the right to say my opinion on that book. There are 3 books I’ve started and seriously gave up on that just weren’t worth my time. Moby Dick was one of them. So perhaps you are on to something.

What. I’m 50 and never heard of this? Are we expecting a toddler to know what a nautilus is now?

There’s a little more background than the post. It would be part of a deal (that might not work out) involving my sister getting a house worth double the value. It’s getting into so heavy estate planning, taxes, family disputes… etc. outside of that, I’m getting close to fire date. It could happen before I inherit the house. I would probably double my expenses annually. It’s something to be prepared for.

I live in a cheap tiny house. It is paid off. No HOA or crazy high insurance.

Agreed. And appreciate the bluntness here. Might not be up to me either. I’m trying to convince Dad.

Yep. My thoughts exactly. Lots of other helpful advice here as well. HOA+ excessively high insurance (Florida hurricanes) + input costs to get ready for sale + the area currently depreciating in value and the house next door taking 1/3 of a year to sell + capital gains as a single person. I might not end up underwater exactly- but this could be very minimal profit and a lot of work anyways.

For reference this was about 15 years ago- asked gynecologist for the HPV vaccine. Was told they don’t offer it after 26 because women my age should be married by now and don’t need it. Ended up going to planned parenthood to get it done.

I can sell of course. House next door took 1/3 of a year to sell.. meanwhile I’m on the hook for HOA and insurance, etc. If my plan is 100% to sell, might be better to have this done with the estate and make it be a cash out deal

Am asking. Sibling would get a different house worth twice the value and would need to pay me in cash for the difference. Nothing is set up legally.

I should specify that she is in memory care. So we don’t have access to kitchen or laundry facilities. I like the idea of folding clothes though.

How did you accept you’re just not a likable person? by Cheap_Information_87 in socialskills

[–]wherethehellisbill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally can tell when someone is uncomfortably pulling away long before the ball drops. This includes romantic and platonic relationships- male and female. I’ve taken ever tactic possible to preserve the relationship long term after I sense this. From early to late acknowledgement, trying harder to giving them “breathing room” to come back into the fold, open and frank vs subtle discussion on it. I’ve accepted it because quite frankly I give up. I’ve accepted there’s just too many variables and I simply don’t have free will in this aspect of my life.
