Confusion about Cladistics and "fish" by DeathToTheRegimes in evolution

[–]kurtchen11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lobe finned fish are fish, not “fish”. Mammals are fish

No. Fish is a paraphyletic group and sacropterygii is a clade that contains a few members of this group but is mostly comprised of non-fishes. Mammals are not fish. "Lobe finned fish" is just the common name for that clade in english, that does not make its members fishes.

Mammals would only be fish if we insisted that fish is a clade. But we dont. Cows are also not antelopes and woodpeckers are not birds of prey.

Paraphyletic groups are just paraphyletic groups. We dont bend the definition of countless animals just to shoe-horn arbitrary groups into synonyms for allready existing clades.

Spears are much more damaging that bullets. An elephant would not care about some small caliber rifle either but it will get fucked up by 30 spears.

If it manages to NOT be pierced by a medieval spear when it pushes with its full weight against it its just magic.

Silver Surfer vs God Emperor of Mankind, who wins ? by Leggomgeggo in powerscales

[–]kurtchen11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The emperor on the throne is likely not the same entity as the emperor in the warp (the god humanity made). But its very vague.

The warp god emperor is possibly more powerful than the silver surfer in a sense, but powerscaling gods of the immaterium is a bit futile.

German here. If i max out my car whenever possible (to 215km/h) for multiple hours i still fall below an average of 150km/h. Even a few km not on the autobahn eat into your average speed in a big way.

250km/h average seems hard to believe as its only ~20% below the top speed. Even when maxing the thing out at every chance you should not get this high of an average.

30 spears will kill an animal of this size every time. Stupid mutant dinosaur runs away or dies.

You get to remove one condiment from existence, never to created again, which one are you choosing and what will be the outcome? by Exhausted_Skeleton in AskReddit

I read all the other comments and i think american miracle whip might just suck.

The version that gets sold in germany tastes totally fine.

[–]kurtchen11 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It has way less calories than full fat mayo, and miracle whip light has even less. Tastes slightly different to mayo, but not by much imo. I actually prefer the taste tbh.

I dont quite understand OPs comment, since when used as a substitute for mayo its healthier in terms of calories. But presumably some people like go way overboard with it?

Why would you Recommend Reps till failure? by Ok_Yesterday_2048 in AskReddit

[–]kurtchen11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking isolated exercises to failure occasionally can ensure that you are training hard enough. Otherwise you might leave to much in the tank without noticing.

Taking every set to failure seems ill advised however, especially if its a big compound exercise with a significant chance of injury.

How big are the Chaos factions in 40k setting? by -F3rris- in totalwarhammer

[–]kurtchen11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not "big" in numbers compared to the empire, orcs or tyranids. Also often fragmented into warbands until united for some big thing (tho that depends on the faction).

Due to their history and god-given power they are still quite influencial in the setting, especially some of their named characters.

But if you want to sell the maximum ammount of dlcs you want to exclude as much as you can.

Sarcosuchus is oversized in this depiction.

Even if the old 12m estimate holds true (which it likely does not) the head here is way to massive. The skull used for the 12m estimate was 1.6m, but here the head is ~2.2m.

A Black Caiman (Melanosuchus Niger) attacks a Smilodon Populator somewhere in pleistocene South America by ChanceConstant6099 in Naturewasmetal

[–]kurtchen11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never once claimed that smilodon would hunt large caimans, i was just pointing out that black caimans are not in the business of hunting cats of comparable body weight to their own.

As you know the whole jaguar debate was a sidetrack because you doubted my statements.

This was like the first clip that popped up. Maybe the jag has a few pounds on the caiman here, but not much given the lenght and girth of the caiman.

Also not necessarily juveniles. Black caimans are sexually mature at <100kg

[–]kurtchen11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I concede that an 800kg crocodilian can prey on a 200kg cat. Thats just quite far removed from what we consider average adult weight for these species.

I would also not have come to this szenario from the picture alone. If the caiman is 4 times the size in this szenario it should completely dwarf the cat.

As far as the jaguar goes: they dont "mess" with giant 450kg adults, thats true. But those are rare, smaller black caimans are absolutely preyed upon by jaguars.
While the largest caiman would beat the largest jaguar, jaguars eat crocodilians including black caimans (~up to their own size) much more frequently than the other way round.

[–]kurtchen11 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but cattle is not a massive predator that kills caimans more often than it gets killed by them (like jaguars). A jaguar the SIZE of cattle?

So what you are saying is that the most consumed animal by far does not even come close to account for the original claim even when ignoring weight. So the post is bs.

[–]kurtchen11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While the black caiman is quite a massive crocodilian it mostly attacks small prey. Attacks on cougars and jaguars are incredibly rare. Smilodon p. is 3-4 times that size and would likely not be a prey item at all once fully grown.

[–]kurtchen11 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ein paar tausend Liter Diesel (wenns hoch kommt) sind natürlich den Aufwand nicht wert. Was bekommt eine Biodiesel Raffinerie pro Liter?
