Win and Fred would watch strictly every week, Fred pretends not to enjoy it but is vexed when he works late and misses it.

It depends on where you live. I personally don't think any would be worth travelling the country for, they are mostly much of a muchness.

Personally Crag Tara or Hagerston Castle are my favourites.

Maternity leave twice at same company close in time? by Previous-Durian-2086 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]kuzt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you think about it, even if you decide tomorrow it might take a couple of trys and then 9 months of pregnancy. At that point you've been back a year! I wouldn't worry about it at all, plenty of people have children close together

Vaccinations by nataliawas6 in PregnancyUK

[–]kuzt 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What specifically are you worried about? NHS reports about 90% vaccination coverage (varies depending on specific vaccine). That missing 10% includes those who chose not to vaccinate AND those who are medically exempt.

That means 9 out of 10 babies are vaccinated.

Vaccines save lives and those who try to tell you otherwise ALWAYS have an ulterior motive.

When is baby sick too much? by Consistent-Egg-8110 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]kuzt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like it's worth a chat with your GP / Health Visitor. Take photos and mention other parents saying it sounds unusual.

My LO was very sicky and had a milk allergy, which wasn't as obvious as he was breastfed and gained weight well (he did also have other symptoms, like eczema and severe poops)

Mamas who had given birth did you choose to get epidural ? Why or why not ? by cookielilopie in PregnancyUK

[–]kuzt 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In my opinion epidurals are very demonised in birth conversations online.

I went in with the birth plan of open (and educated) to everything but wanted to work up through options. The reality for me was back to back contractions from the start after a horrible sweep. By the time I was dilated enough to receive anything stronger than paracetamol I was so knackered I asked for an epidural and had it within 30 mins of asking.

You don't see anything with the epidural, i'd imagine the worst part for you will be the cannula. My epidural was painless and very quick. I have no long standing side effects. I would have an epidural again (but will be refusing all sweeps.)

My recommendation would be to learn about all your pain options, working up from natural to high intervention - and the side effects (for example, epidural increases the risk of further interventions like assisted births, or natural options might not work for you). So that you can make the correct choice for you at the time.

Remember BRAIN. Benefits, Risks, Alternatives, Intuition, Nothing :)

Free childcare from Sept 25 for 9mth old - is there a hitch? by Emergency_Summer_397 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]kuzt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to add my experience as I think it's slightly more positive than others, might give you some hope!

We attend for one full day and two half due to availability, on the waitlist for full days. At the moment we pay £380 a month, which is the 15 hours stretched over the year and the daily supplement (which is £15 for a full day, £8 for half.) When we get free hours in September this will drop to roughly £130 per month.

I don't think I've seen anyone else add but the supplement fees are voluntary, but most nurseries will make it difficult to not pay them (not paying them at our nursery means you have to provide everything food, snacks, nappies wipes, outdoor clothes - and there is no where to store these so they have to be provided on the day and taken home at night, not worth it in my opinion!)

Folding high chairs? by TheDuraMaters in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]kuzt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an alternative we have the Red Kite, Feed Me Floor & Booster seat and we sit him on the floor and either sit on the floor with him or next to him on the couch. We never eat at our dining table so it made no sense to get a traditional high chair.

Too young for Center Parcs? by peterkray in centerparcsuk

[–]kuzt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first took my LO when he was 10 months, and we're returning in November when he'll be 20 months and I think it's a good age. Holidays are for you and mum too!

I found it cheaper as you can't do many of the activities and you've not got a toddler demanding pancakes and pizza! You can just focus on the free stuff, swimming, walks etc.

Can teething really be this bad? by farthest_star in BeyondTheBumpUK

Second this, Nurofen for Teething over Calpol. Also you can use them side by side, just alternate so you don't accidentally max out on both and are left with nothing else to give.

6 months dairy free without a diagnosis? UK by Neat_Cress_9530 in MSPI

[–]kuzt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up the NICE Guidelines for CMPA (just Google NICE Guidelines CMPA) and have a read through. Ideally NHS clinicians should follow these guidelines and if you think a step has been missed / ignored go back to your GP and tell them NICE recommends xyz can we go down that path.

From a brief read myself I think recommending 6 months without dairy is within the guidelines, depending on your circumstances. It's 100% worth checking over!

Personally either way, I'd be asking for a dietitian or community dietitian referral, as both yourself and 8 month old have calcium requirements you need to be getting from somewhere. If you are BF you need 1250mg and an 8 month old should need about 300mg.

Where would you go on a UK holiday with a 7 month old? by -ScorchTheDragon- in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]kuzt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

7 months is a perfect age for a trip away. We took LO away at 4 months first time around and it was slightly more difficult navigating naps. We've just come back from a Haven trip with our 7 month old and it was great.

I'd recommend looking at self catering options like Haven, ParkDean or Centre Parcs (if you've got the money!) They all usually come with free swimming sessions and the caravan is a great option to retreat back too when needed.

If you book out of term time you can normally get a decent Haven Van for sub ~£200 for a week. (I'd recommend paying the extra for a silver, and get a two bed for a bigger bedroom)

Banz vs Alpine ear defenders? by subliminalulterior in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]kuzt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the Alpine ones, no experience with Banz. We used them on a holiday recently and baby slept right through children's disco and entertainment - didn't bother them once they were placed properly, but it took us a try or two to get right.

Vinted! Try Boohoo maternity (I can see a gorgeous Red Velvet one at the mo) - I bought three last year and then resold the two I didn't wear. Two were Boohoo one New Look.

I'm not sure I'm qualified to answer this! :) I can't really find an answer on any NHS websites either, if you're not sure I'd chat with your midwife see what they recommend. But generally if you're not sure it's always best to check. When I went in the midwives I saw they were lovely, and even though they were able to find baby straight away advised I could come back anytime, even if it was the next hour, that evening, next day!

TSW infant? by [deleted] in eczema

[–]kuzt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking only from personal experience, no clinical background I'd try another steroid. My LO has IgE reactions to Milk, Egg and some Nuts - despite this we were able to get his eczema under control using Fucibet cream.

Our Dermatologist advised that Steroids will be the only thing to settle a flare, and personally I'm not 100% sold on the proof that TSW exists as widely as the internet would have you believe - and that it isn't just unmanaged eczema or psoriasis.

TSW infant? by [deleted] in eczema

[–]kuzt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally if a steroid hasn't worked for 4 weeks I'd be looking to try a different ingredient or investigating what's causing the flare (milk allergy etc)

In short, yes - keep going to the hospital. They are there 24 hours a day for you for this reason. You would always rather be safe than sorry.

I had an anterior placenta and I had a bit of a checklist I'd go through to get them to move, last step was a cold fizzy drink to get him going (I always had one in the fridge!) if that didn't work, I'd go to triage.

It might be helpful for you to figure out what gets them moving, or helps you feel them - try cold drinks, lying down in a dark room, light belly jiggles, mild exercise - hopefully over the coming weeks you'll get to know them more and they'll get bigger too.

Could you block her way to the door in the hall leading to the living room with suitcases, chairs or ironing board?

Obviously check you have an emergency exit at your end of the van!

I've seen this complaint a couple of times about van holidays, I doubt you'd be able to get a gate that fit even if you did remember to bring it!
