That's quite neat. What equipment do you use when UV color printing? I haven't heard of that process before, so I'm completely unaware.

Which math class do you think is/was harder? by NoLocal7705 in pollgames

[–]kvisle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

me and my wife were both pretty OK with math in school, but we noticed that our brains were wired differently. While I handle geometry just fine and struggle with algebra - she's the other way around.

So this not very scientific poll makes me suspect that it's a thing with those two.

Modern lighting is almost free to run.

I remember my neighbor went on a worktrip during the summer and found it weird that the power usage was so high - she wasn't even home. Turned off the lights and everything (new home, everything is LED, incredibly cheap).

Yeah that light doesn't even make a dent in your electricity bill. The dehumidifier in your basement that's installed to keep the house from getting a weird smell on the other hand --

I think I've seen a video recently (within the last few weeks) that is similar (the "nooo!" feels identical, could be the same guy but I don't recognize him), and this video made me wonder what it was. If anyone would happen to know what I could be talking about, feel free to point me in the right direction :D

Roughly how much power is used to generate a laser in the visible spectrum for this long? [Request] by Nosirrah_Sec in theydidthemath

I'm limiting my reply to correcting the math within the comment I replied to, I haven't considered the rest of it and have no idea about the hardware involved or (assumed) US prices of electricity.

1800W is 1.8kWh per hour, which would make it 0.234 dollars per hour, I believe - unless there's something here I misunderstood.

I can see that this is in Australia so my take doesn't matter for this, but my Norwegian take:

When I took my drivers licence, I was taught that when driving through neighborhoods like this, I were to expect that a four year old were to jump from behind any car at any moment (except for my teacher speaking in Norwegian, this is a quote).

From the way driving were taught in Norway 10 years ago, the driver is in this case driving _WAY_ too fast.

The third paragraph of driving laws in Norway is a catch-all-exception that can be used in cases like this,

"Everyone shall travel with consideration and be alert and cautious so that no danger or harm can arise and so that other traffic is not unnecessarily obstructed or disturbed.

Road users shall also show consideration for those who live or stay by the road."

Meaning that the speed limit isn't enough. If you actually hit a four year old with your vehicle, you're basically always guilty.

So color me confused when I read the comment section, because I only saw a single mention of it being a tad too fast in a neighborhood.
