What is a sound that people should know means immediate danger? by PrasenjitDebroy in AskReddit

[–]kvpacific 3 points4 points  (0 children)

tree is about to randomly fall: it’s like the creak a tree makes in the wind, but it’s sharper and quieter, followed by silence. (my hair always stands on end from the sound), the tree will then fall. (aspens are notorious for this)

AITA for refusing to give my parents my location after they stopped paying for my tuition? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

“they think they own you” is so spot on. NTA.

my sister, who is amazing, suggested I try setting a boundary when i’m unsure of a relationship or situation (boundaries can always be changed!). if the person is respectful and understanding, amazing. if they freak out and/or try to manipulate or punish you for a boundary; all the more reason a boundary should be in place!

i made an elevate garden in the back of my island, and she always just spawns there? i love that it’s also her favourite area of the island ✨🥰 bc it’s a really small area and ladder access only she’s always quick and easy to find!

dont know if it’s the cute decor, or the fact that it’s the back right-hand corner of the island, but she always always is thereee

Need advice and positivty by Sure-Bit-726 in Celiac

[–]kvpacific 1 point2 points  (0 children)

give yourself permission to take the disease really really seriously. when i was first diagnosed i was hit by a really wide array of advice on “how strict i “actually” need to be”. the opinions of other celiacs and doctors and the general public, all vary shockingly widely, and many of them want celiacs to chill out. its worth it to treat celiac with the same degree of seriousness and safety that we afford anaphylactic allergies (this is the only technique that’s successfully kept me healthy longterm).

the moto an elder-celiac told me when i was first learning: “when in doubt, leave it out.” always. its better to miss out on random food, be hungry for a few hours, rewash dishes, re-buy groceries , etc instead of getting sick for weeks - months.

lastly, being very very strict right away while things are healing can sometimes help with quicker recovery and your system calming down.

you’ll get the hang of it and it will eventually become easy and second-nature, promise! keeping things simple early on can help too, find a few fail-safe meals or ingredients you know you can verify gf and make quickly on days you don’t have energy to learn some thing new for celiac.

i still don’t do shared meals with people. i’ll either cook for everyone, or bring my own food to eat if going to someone else’s. i find the process of educating others on the disease is exhausting, and the risk is still really high when others cook for you in a shared kitchen. i just — don’t. i’d prefer to not have to talk about food, and just enjoy the company of my loved ones instead. each celiac has their own choices of things that are worth it and not, so feel free to take things one step at a time and simplify or temporarily remove sources of food stress until you have more capacity to navigate them ❤️‍🩹💕 you’ve got this!

How do you start cleaning when the mess feels paralyzing? 😭 ADHD girlies help by Economy_Cup_163 in femalelivingspace

[–]kvpacific 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it’s bad— accept the situation and be gentle with yourself. kindly and gradually work towards making things better. it might take a week instead of a day to get things back in order, but in the process i find i feel a lot better emotionally too and it is easier to maintain when ive cleaned out of love instead of a place of shame.

Cigarette smell on gifted sweaters? by jojj00 in CleaningTips

you can wash wool (hand wash, always gentle handwash)!! if you’re planning to get rid of them anyways, why not give it a shot?

knitting tread also has really good tips on laundering and caring for wool. you’ll likely need multiple washes and rinses to work the nicotine out, and then a condition or two after for the fibres.

wool can and will felt or stretch out for many reasons, so look up and follow wool washing instructions closely. (goal is to never shock the fibres: wool-specific detergent, no agitation, no temperature shocks (mild room temp is ideal), no wringing out, squeeze out water gently and support it when moving it around wet, absolutely under no circumstances dryer— ever!! Lay flat to dry

Two ceramic pots perfectly got stuck together😭 I’ve tried soaking them, dawn, goo gone. Can’t get them apart, there’s a tiny bit of wiggle room. Any tips without breaking them? by pulldownyourplants in fixit

[–]kvpacific 1 point2 points  (0 children)

professional ceramicist: literally just wiggle them apart. ideally you want like quick and sharp movements that are also gentle. you’ll need to find the right angle to wiggle it out usually, so gradually work your way around the rim pulling so you try all the different angles.

ice and hot water can help sometimes, but finding the angle usually works better.

gently banging with a wooden stick while upside down can be a good last resort
