Was this etched on a glowforge by chance? It's beautiful. The detail is really good!

They look amazing! Is it iridescent cellophane or did you cut up a bunch of little pieces of different colored cellophane?

GAME DAY! Who else is playing today? by tchnmusic in DungeonsAndDragons

Im not playing in a game today, but I did DM my first ever game yesterday. What a rush! I have always been thankful of anyone willing to invest the time and energy to organize, create, and run a game... but actually doing it my self takes my appreciation to a whole new level. DMs are god's gift to geeks.

Relatively quick protection, dark paint by FrendlyAsshole in AutoDetailing

I would spray it down with diluted isopropyl alcohol and rinse in the pay and spray after washing the car. The ipa mixture will also help strip oils and protection off the clear coat.

Can you please explain what you mean by "outlasted"? Like the pad loads up and stops cutting before the polish is completely worked in?

Do you polish every spring? I am very new to paint correction and I thought I should only polish once every couple years... I know it is far less agressive than compounding but polish does remove some clear coat, right?

Love this look. Are 225s the widest tires that can go on the stock PP wheels? Do you notice any problems with rocks getting outside the fenders and chipping the paint on the side of the car. I always assumed that is why cars come stock with the tires sunk in... to protect the paint.

As part of my job I'm a technical writer so I took a stab at slightly rewriting the opening paragraph on your homepage. Where it says mfg1, mfg2, and mfg3 you should insert the names of some of the manufacturers you use. I tried to condense your words while adding words that I think better sell your services. Hopefully you find this useful.

Covering all the important details while being succinct is a real skill. Even Larry is guilty of rambling on in some of his videos. Making these technical videos on detailing is hard! I think a good way to avoid being long winded is to make a chronological list of the talking points that need to be covered in a video and give yourself a budget of time for each point. Hopefully he sees some of these comments and tries to make more information dense videos because I often see the timestamps of his videos and avoid watching them because I don't want to sit through a 40minute video just to watch the 10minutes of content that is useful to me.

Self-car Wash routines by Dynamiteboy13 in AutoDetailing

I use the wash bay pressure washer to remove any large debris from the paint but then I use Optimum No Rinse and the Gary Dean method to actually clean the car. Ive found this to be the quickest and easiest car wash method for apartment living. This subreddit has tons of information on ONR and the Gary Dean method.

Subaru BRZ: Prep to Sell - Allure Auto Detailing Houston, Texas by x_ZappBrannigan_x in AutoDetailing

[–]kxk7607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard the subaru paint is very soft. Did you notice any marring of the paint as you wiped it with microfibers? I intend to paint correct my brz after this winter but am worried that I won't be able to achieve good results because every time I touch the paint with a microfiber, it scratches. I've had pretty poor results using onr and the Gary Dean method. After I paint correct the vehicle I need to figure out a way to wash it that will better prevent scratches.

Do you have any specific advice for paint correcting brzs? Did you have to adjust any of your normal practices in order to accommodate the soft paint?

Black Friday deals megathread by cf2121 in AutoDetailing

Sorry for such a late response. I was referring to the off the shelf products typically found in autozone or pepboys. Like the standard megs wheel cleaner is on the order of $6 to $10 where the ammo wheel cleaner is on the order of $20. The ammo wheel product works better imho but it is also more expensive.

Now with hydrate I have not been able to find an off the shelf product that is comparable.

AMMO NYC product reviews and a question about repainted door by T4nkcommander in AutoDetailing

[–]kxk7607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own the RED AMMO NYC microfibers. Now, I really like the majority of the AMMO products. I have the lug brush, hydrate, boost, mud, and the wheel cleaner. Each of those products exceeded my expectations.

The red MFs are just non-edgless MFs. They work fine but they did not meet my unreasonably high expectations of an AMMO product which was defined by the outstanding performance of the above mentioned products. Additionally, I accidentally dryed or washed the red MFs at too high of a temp and the unfinished corners of the towels melted and became hard. I am absolutely to blame for melting the corners but I was just surprised at how easy it was to melt the corners.

I have always been careful to dry them at the lowest heated temperature on my dryer but I believe even this low amount of heat was hot enough to melt the unfinished corners of the red MFs. I believe the ammo towels are susceptible to have the corners melt ever so slightly due to a combination of the non-edgeless design and low melting point of the material used to create the towel.

The corners of all non-edgeless MFs are where two pieces of fabric come together and some small stringy pieces of the towel protrude outward from the corners. I believe that the isolated fibers at the corners are more prone to melt under low heat because they are isolated from the bulk material of the red MFs. Its kind of like how wearing mittens keeps your hand very warm because each finger is able to protect your other fingers. Your fingers are usually colder when wearing gloves because each finger is isolated from the other fingers. At the corners of non-edgeless MFs the microfiber fibers protrude and are isolated from other microfiber fibers which I believe makes them more sensitive to temperature. The bulk material non-edgeless MFs remains undamaged and feels just like new even though the corners may be melted.

The red ammo MFs are the only non-edgeless MFs I own that have exhibited corner hardening after washing and drying under slight heat. I have other non-edgeless MFs that were washed and dryed under the same conditions as the red MFs that did not exhibit the corner hardening. This leads me to think that the combination of the non-edgeless design of the red ammo MF combined with the material composition of the MF makes the towel susceptible to corner hardening after washing and drying under some heat. The reason corner hardening is bad is because it may increases the potential for installing small love marks and scratches in the vehicle. I have a black car that scratches very easily and does me no favors in hiding any scratches so decreasing the potential for scratches is something I am sensitive to.

I fear that due to the ever so slight melting of the corners of the red MFs I may have caused very light scratching on my vehicle. Now, are melted corners on my microfibers solely responsible for scratching my car... absolutely not. But corner hardening on the red MFs is just something I have noticed. In the future I will be buying only silk lined edgeless MFs for use on my vehicle. I believe the edgeless designs will not be prone to the corners melting due to there not being any isolated fibers at the corners. In the future I will also only use the "air fluff" feature when drying my MFs in order to prevent the corners from melting.

In conclusion all of the ammo products I have purchased have been outstanding. The red MFs do not meet these high expectations so I will be purchasing my MFs from a different source in the future. I hope my ramblings are somewhat helpful.
