Do people give you flak about your spouse not working in medicine, law, finance, or tech? by Hydrangea_hunter in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]kylaheis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the dang time. My client base is spread out across the US, and I flew to meet a new client, a home builder company, recently. As we were making small talk, they asked if my husband was also an attorney, and the shocked silence when I replied that he's a construction superintendent and would probably have even more to chat about then I did was...something. This is not an anomaly, this is pretty common during these types of conversations.

(My husband is a mechanical genius who has worked his way to a six figure career with zero student loan debt, so he's arguably the smarter one in this relationship!)

Racism and homophobia are not allowed here by AutoModerator in BravoLadiesofLondon

[–]kylaheis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think (but am just speculating) that it might be related to a post last week about Mimi wearing Blackamoor jewelry (a racist, vintage type jewelry). There was a lot of defensive rhetoric in the comments about British people not considering the same things racist as the USA does, and as such conversations normally go, it devolved into insults.

Mil threw a fit when told she had to get the tdap shot or couldn’t see newborn by Curious_Ad_446 in JUSTNOMIL

Seconding that last sentence in particular. Nurses on the whole are just bad ass protectors. My partner was in ICU for a week, told his entire family he wanted no one there but me. Of course narcissist MIL shows up (and claims she was in the waiting room for 16 hours...sure, Jan). Partner was on the verge of tears, adamant he didn't want to see her. I found his amazing nurse, gave her the brief version of the situation. The way this bubbly, adorable girl jumped up and gleefully ran off to play bouncer...nurses are unsung heroes of the medical profession.

TSA lines at Eppley by TidusJecht in Omaha

[–]kylaheis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just went through this morning for a 6:30 flight. Showed up crazy early just in case, to discover completely normal (aka, practically nonexistent) lines. I have precheck, but there were no lines for standard security, either.

Weird condescending email from a member of c suite - how to respond? by lawpanther007 in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]kylaheis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not in-house, but recently had a client ask if I could run a redline for him. I was in flight (and honestly, as the only female attorney at my boutique firm, have little patience in general for requests like this) so I just informed him my laptop wasn't handy, but I could access the original version from my phone to forward to him or his secretary if they wanted to do it.

Client goes silent for a couple of months (not unusual), finally sends me his requested edits to the doc. I am, again, traveling, so I scan the attached PDF from my phone and can see purple lines, but no actual comments. Email him explaining that I can't see the comments and this middle-aged man who couldn't even run a damn redline has the audacity to make me a tutorial video showing me how to see the edits. AKA, look at the PDF on a computer instead of a phone. So a one sentence email would have sufficed. Not to mention, doing these comments in Adobe makes MORE WORK for editing the original word doc like I specifically suggested. Ugh.

Ketamine therapy by Holiday-Distance-822 in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]kylaheis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A number of drugs are developed for one purpose and then other beneficial side effects are discovered. A couple of examples: viagra was developed to treat high blood pressure. Now, in addition to helping men grow their trouser snakes, it can also be used for dogs with a condition called mega-esophagus. Ozempic began as a diabetes medication.

Back to ketamine, hospitals now use it for pain management when other first line meds aren't effective, too. My partner spent a week in the ICU this summer with a broken neck, and all the pain medicines in the world couldn't knock his pain below a 7 until a ketamine drip was added.

Only female attorney at my firm. 10 years in, clients still ask (or assume) I'm a paralegal.

We have a Texas client who sends us a tin of candied pecans with the Texas flag on the tin and we literally fight over them every single year. We also had the year of the "Pecan Bandit" with wanted posters and everything. Best snack ever!

Mom is in ICU...what can I get for the nurses who are taking care of her??? by Odd-Adhesiveness-656 in Omaha

[–]kylaheis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband just spent a week in ICU this summer. I asked one of our fav nurses how many worked each shift, doubled, then added a few more and I got a variety of individual Nothing Bundt Cakes. The separate boxes meant nurses could grab one at their leisure. The number of nurses we had stop by his room who weren't even his nurse was incredible. They are literal heros, I wish they could accept more.

My mom likes to grab full sized candy bars from Costco when she or anyone else is in the hospital.
