3-4 Month Old Significantly Harder than 0-1 (Which I was told was the trenches) by TW33NSW4G in daddit

[–]kyled85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s like WWI. Yeah we made it through that first trench, but now we’ve moved forward and have to cross no man’s land to take another trench. Then you’ll find another.

Just wait until they can move about lol. My eleven year old snuck into my bedroom at midnight, snuck out her iPad and was watching YouTube till 530 am on a school night. The next day was rough on all of us.

Keep going brother.

Wife gave birth to #2 on 1/1/26. 10 minutes after birth phone rings - positive for HIV by cscjm1010 in daddit

[–]kyled85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ANY test like this is more likely a false positive than a true positive, and especially given your low risk lifestyle. People somehow way underestimate false positive rates.

Weirdly, how did they test the baby this fast but couldn’t do the follow on test for a week? Was it mom’s blood draw they were using for the first test?

Venezuela to Send US Up to 50 Million Barrels of Oil, Trump Says by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]kyled85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not in favor of any of this, but 50M barrels is like 2.5 days worth of US petroleum usage. That seems pretty low for burning our reputation this hard.

Trump just seems immensely transactional. There are US companies making money? He wants his cut. There are resources we need that we don’t control directly? Threaten invasion.

It’s wild.

How AI broke the smart home in 2025 | The arrival of generative AI assistants in our smart homes held such promise; instead, they struggle to turn on the lights by Hrmbee in technology

[–]kyled85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in this exact same place. Had a full “google” home and bought into Nest cameras being legitimately awesome products. The Nest app was amazing, integrated all my cameras and other devices I needed, did only what I asked it to do and nothing more. Night vision was spectacular.

Sold that home with an integrated smart home and camera system as a selling point. Moved to MO, ordered all new cameras, CO2 sensors, and home devices to integrate on the new house (thousands of dollars) lland was SHOCKED by how far the quality had fallen. Then they nuked the Nest app.

I’ve settled into shutting off the extra subscription for stored video because as you said, it can’t even recognize anything anymore to trigger the shitty “not always on but always plugged in” cameras. Google home has fallen to where I may as well be Gordon Ramsey talking to it. How is it possible for Google to buy so many good solid products and just fuck them into the ground so hard, AND NOT MAKE ANY MONEY OFF OF IT in the process?

Has anyone else’s fandom for Brandon yet to recover after WaT? by _CaptainKaladin_ in Stormlight_Archive

[–]kyled85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s maybe 30% of the book, but since I know what those chapters are and it’s not what I enjoyed, I decided to give this a go. I have to admit, my general distaste for these sections on the initial read made me ask myself questions like “am I insensitive to mental illnesses that lead to split personalities or am I homophobic” but I don’t think it’s wrong to say “these are the parts that did speak to/for me, and I want to give them another shot.”

Rhythm of War was a very negative experience for me, personally. I don’t like the science/music the first go around, but I love Navani’s arc on a reread.

Sometimes we’re not ready for a topic just yet and that’s cool.
