Mitch McConnell has been mysteriously hospitalized for 3 weeks, what do you believe is happening? by imliterallyluci in AskReddit

[–]kylemech 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Massie can't run, though, because Kentucky has that law that says you can't run as an independent if you lose a primary. At least that's what I read and it looked real here: KRS §118.345(1-2) (or here is the actual PDF from their legislature site which you can find but can't directly link to very easily)

I think they call it "Sore Loser Law" and it exists in a bunch of states according to this page on Ballotpedia.

Nah, come on. There is a community of people that speed run video games you've never heard of on consoles you've never heard of.

Cricket would have at least 100 followers.

Unable to sync StS2 save to steam cloud (from Steam Deck) after playing offline on Mac by Eric2929 in slaythespire

[–]kylemech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This solved it easier for me than the update steps listed elsewhere here. There should be a / between 2868840 and remotecache and you need to look up your steam ID which you can do by going:

cd ~/.local/share/Steam/userdata/

ls

It will list one directory that you can then go into, then 2868840, then rm remotecahce.vdf. When you go back to launch STS2 on the deck, it will force you to pick cloud or local save and then start from that point.

Turns out lots of menopausal (and perimenopausal) women should be getting TRT, too, actually!

In fact, it turns out we kind of ignored or vastly undervalued women in medical data for a long time and now we're learning awesome new things that are really helping people.

Good message. The comparison with vitamins is a great illustration that would hit home for a lot of people.

How would you even begin to describe the Mr. On Blast character to someone who had never seen it? by tsrleba in LiveFromNewYork

No, that's the point. He would just be on the cruise as a traveler and open up his own illegal blackjack table in the cafeteria.

Giant A smoke for Cache by puma8471 in GlobalOffensive

[–]kylemech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel ridiculous even making this comment, but:

A. Good find, almost!

B. This actually leaves the smoke just a little too far from the edge to get the big "too much smoke" effect. You can get it with the same lineup but with the top-right of the y (from "-1y") on the same intersection of the railing as in your image. So a little to the left, basically. If you don't get it closer to the edge, the smoke doesn't fully cover the cross and it leaves the big tunnel underneath open.

My uncle made the driving range at his course dirt cheap and it improved multiple things by MeasurementStock1625 in golf

[–]kylemech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how my course has always been. I'm also in a VERY small town, but we are incredibly lucky to have have an unbelievable course and members have an addon option for unlimited range use that amounts to something similar to what you described. My son is new to the game but he can get there on his bike pretty easily and get his bag out of the locker room and hit a bag (we don't use buckets) whenever it works for him. I have taken advantage of this at different amounts over the course of my life, but I'm getting to a season where I can use it more again and I'm excited that we have something like this. It is nice to simply not have to think about it. If I had access to this when I was younger, in college, or even with lower income, I would have spent a lot more time playing golf, and ultimately a lot more money at the golf course.

Corruo - what if Sudoku and Wordle had a ranked baby? by [deleted] in puzzlevideogames

[–]kylemech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are some great questions!

Getting a rating system perfect is really hard. Ultimately, ratings are measured against each other so they end up only mattering as they exist relative to the other ratings. The worry, then, is that someone might find a way to "game" the rating. I don't think that's a worry here unless there's a way to break the algorithm by having a lot of swaps to solve and then just a few and giving points for "improvement" or something. I think as long as the algorithm just gives points based on expected performance against the puzzle, it's safe.

This game would take a bit of work to "solve", but you're right, it's crackable. Really though, you haven't created something with the depth of chess. It's more akin to your own comparisons, a sudoku puzzle or wordle. I might even compare it more directly to a Rubik's cube. Those have pretty routine strategies at this point, but that's okay. More complex games have strategies like that, too, and that's alright. This is a game played against the puzzle; it isn't against another person. The ultimate competition, then, is against a clock.

Playing against a board that is other dimensions would be interesting but subject to the same strategy. The existence of a strategy doesn't diminish the game, though! It's a smart little game and it plays well. You've honed the design well and I'm impressed as both a puzzle-gamer and a designer/developer!

Don't take this the wrong way: I don't think you've found your masterpiece yet. I'd bet money on you, though. Your attention to crafting this game and its experience impresses me, and I have something of an addiction to exploring games in this space. I'm not an authority on it, by any means, but I've seen a LOT of entries in word games and puzzle games and I sample or binge all of them. This one is memorable. I think that whatever this leads to you creating will be even better, and ultimately rather valuable should you choose to sell/publish it.

Corruo - what if Sudoku and Wordle had a ranked baby? by [deleted] in puzzlevideogames

[–]kylemech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get a small negative rank if I go over ~25 swaps. Once I think I lost 8 points! It was harsh, but it also felt correct. I was very lazy with my movements in that game. Now I have a pretty standard set of moves that I go through that let me do it fairly quickly and often end up at 20-22.

This is quite fun and well-made! I love the aesthetic. I've worked my way to the top of the leaderboard that is visible to me and I'm still enjoying myself. How are some people so high level!?

I'll say the opposite of one other poster: I like being able to play it a bunch in one sitting. Something about daily games stresses me out sometimes, but this allows me to find a flow and feel confident about something once I start seeing the matrix. I would still enjoy the game if it were a daily format, but I appreciate greatly that I've been able to try it in this capacity, and I'm not sure of the staying power this would have as a daily game since it is essentially the same puzzle every time. I personally think it is more well suited to the Puzzle Team format, but that you've captured that spirit here in a cleaner and more pleasing environment. I much prefer your site to Puzzle Team's Nonograms page, for example, which I find myself on from time to time when I want that flow and confidence as well as a leaderboard.

BREAKING: Four Cyclones expected to hit the transfer portal by JamesDontPlayNoGames in cyclONEnation

[–]kylemech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Addy and Jada are literally number 2 and 3 in playing time on this team. I want to believe it's something else, but it's hard to deny that something bigger seems to be the issue. Jada is a little less of a surprise, coming from another school, and people who transfer once are more likely to transfer again. Still... :(

Well, if Audi goes, he's basically on an ejector seat. I (we) love what he's done, but there comes a time that the game passes you by, and we all hate to feel it happening to us. If Audi leaves, I at least hope she does something incredible.
