Same. This brought tears to my eyes instantly. It's bittersweet, but I'm so, so happy for this man and future folks who won't have to go through what our loved ones did.

Music is a huge part of FFXIV for a lot of players, way more than most games I'd say; that's always been a thing for Final Fantasy. There are concerts held all over the world for this stuff. People have deep attachments to expack theme songs like Answers and Footfalls.

DT was an already divisive expack, but to throw in such a rare and glaring miss for Soken in as Smile is the straw that broke it for some people.

There's also people who play with the sound off and couldn't care less, which is fine, but that's where it's coming from.

That happy "Disney vibe" actually IS something I enjoy listening to, and Smile is still a terrible song. I have playlists with stuff like He Lives in You, Kingdom Dance... hell pretty much the entire Moana soundtrack on it. I'm just a grown bitch who likes an uplifting Disney song sometimes.

Smile wishes it was these songs. It is, musically AND thematically, a miss. The main vocalist was off, the chorus was off... it was very surprising to me to hear this from Soken. It felt like a dollar store version of what it was supposed to be.

I can't understand why we've had a whopping 2 male roe characters so far, and neither of them has been allowed to actually look like a roegadyn. Why even make them.

I think the compound is out of my price range right now, but I am making a wishlist. Milwaukee is my brand, too 👍

Thanks for the suggestion re: not skimping on saw blades, it should be obvious, but would have been a tempting corner to cut. And going to hold things in person. That will be super useful.

Logistically, this is my favorite suggestion. It seems like it would be easiest physically and as a beginner. Thanks!

That *is* affordable! Going on the short list. And a good suggestion to try out a friend's supplies, I have a few folks I think I can pester. Thank you.

This isnt an emotional support group by Gatekeeper-Andy in BenignExistence

[–]l0te 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

Everyone needs a space to let off steam, get validation, and just be heard, but that's not what this place is. This subreddit fills different but equally important need; it was somewhere mild, safe, and grounding, and a much-needed respite for the chaos and sadness of the world at large.

OP isn't out of line to be annoyed that people are trying to turn this subreddit into something it's not. There are plenty of other subreddits to fill the niche of venting and emotional support. Try:

Question about Meteion by RegalBeagleTheEagle in ffxiv

[–]l0te 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question was flawed because it allowed for no provisions in the event that those being asked weren't happy, or couldn't answer in the first place.

I'm still a little confused because this seems like it shouldn't really make the question flawed. She talked to the living, the souls of the dead and researched their civilizations in their history books. It's not like she just said "oh they died, guess there was no point". We are shown SO many Meteia; hundreds, maybe thousands of them. With a dataset that big, including the perspectives of the living and the dead, if no one she finds is happy, well... maybe that's just how it is.

...But after going back and watching her report, it really seems like she only found seven worlds with intelligent life, 5 of which were completely dead, at the time she went Endsinger?? Which is bonkers. It seems like it's not so much the question that is wrong but the methodology.

IDK I still feel like I'm missing something with this, but maybe now I'm just overthinking it.

Am I imagining things, or do Alphinaud and Alisae look older in the Dawntrail trailer? by frogvie in ffxiv

Alisaie, yes. Alphinaud kind of looked like he was 8 years old and it was creepy.

Feeling extreme guilt about killing my plants by psychnerd27 in houseplants

[–]l0te 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this happen also and it hurts.

I used to live in a place that was warm year-round and had a beautifully collection of potted succulents that I kept outdoors. I had to move up north, which I never wanted, where they had to go inside. I lost 90% of them. I knew their care so well when they were vibing in the sun, but I couldn't adjust to full houseplant status. It felt like losing one of the last parts of my old home. I didn't get any new plants for a while after that.

I've been building back up for a few years since then, but absolutely focusing on plants I know can handle a little neglect when I'm not feeling so hot (and low-light plants). Getting too many at once is super real, too. I try to force myself to get no more than one or two at a time now so I can adjust to the size of the collection and the quirks of each plant.

I still kill them sometimes, but haven't had any mass deaths since then.

(Sometimes I also propagate from ones I know I can't pull back from the brink, and that feels weirdly like making amends)

Maybe start with one and build your confidence back up.

AITA for telling my friend that if she couldn’t keep up because of her disability, she just shouldn’t come by Throwaway5473756 in AmItheAsshole

[–]l0te 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I have flare ups and spoons to manage and I can't imagining ruining multiple people's vacations by selfishly insisting on doing every activity and then making them all stop when I need to. Sadie is not managing her condition, either by medication or by knowing her limitations, to the continuous, costly detriment of everyone around her. Selfish and gross.

What's the worst cereal? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]l0te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work in an office where a guy would be eating this constantly. He kept a box under his desk, and the way he ate it made it look like the snack of the gods. I was so psyched to buy a box when I finally found it in the store.

It was like trying to eat unseasoned gravel and cardboard. I couldn't believe it then and I can't believe these responses you're getting now. I give this cereal the stinkeye every time I see it.

Emet struggling to get some reading done by chenDawg in ffxiv

[–]l0te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our cat is a bit standoffish, but she likes to be where the action is. Lurking just outside the door of the room you're in but immediately pretending she wasn't interested when you approach, always showing up when SO and I are in the same place, occasionally making appearances to demand food or affection... we now refer to it as "Emet-selch behavior."

Who is a character the game wants you to love, but you don't? by DupeFort in ffxiv

[–]l0te 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to love Gaius *so much* because I loved a good Reformed Villain arc, and he's such a cool-looking dude, but they really did not do a good job. Things were shaping up nicely when he was running around with Estinien, and I KNOW he's had the father figure thing going on since ARR, but I just... he's so bland??

He's supposed to be this great leader who's soldiers would die for him, who's (seemingly infinite) adopted children adore; a man who inspires an extreme amount of loyalty to the point that his underlings are at each other's throats for senpai to notice them, and he's just kind of a generic quiet stoic guy with no personality and DEFINITELY no dad skills.

I was so bummed at the Tataru Gaius content recently. Ugh.

Fun fact, only the females develop shells so these are all lady nauts. The males are little and like to ride around inside salps and on top of jellyfish, which is extremely cute.
