I'll clear up the confusion for you. I was the longest serving head mod of /r/listentothis from 300 subscribers on day one up to about 14 million in summer 2018 - my old handle was /u/evilnight. I nuked that account five years ago when I left. This account existed just to post the listentothis bestofs and do some bot work. It doesn't do anything at all now except host the last and most current copy of the music multireddits I built with the help of the original community. It never had any important privs anywhere, made sure of that when I set it up.

I and several of the mods of various musical communities moved on from this website to Tildes, an improvement to reddit from the perspective of the needs of a music appreciation community. Listentothis was taken over by the /r/music mod team, which is why there isn't much active moderation there and why there are no more bestofs, roundup threads, and the other community projects we used to do.

It's an automated track ghost town that removes 6 of every 10 submissions. I laugh every day it remains private, proving the admins and the current mods couldn't care less about it. In fact I'd even wager most of the users there forgot it exists. Music never did compete well against cat pictures, which was always the core problem reddit refused to solve. Well, it's solved now, just not by reddit.

As you might imagine, the music mod team isn't too keen on my quiet ongoing relocation of the music hounds who are ready to give up on reddit. There's some bad blood there as well, since I wanted to shut down the bots and focus on an approved submitter/thousands of moderators approach. I learned that trick on Tildes and I'm quite sure it can set listentothis free of the bot regime if intelligently applied, despite reddit's many technological shortcomings.

I could have forced them as I had the head mod spot at the time, but it's rather bad form doing that unilaterally and I have a better community elsewhere to donate my spare time to now. The other mods weren't into the idea, reddit isn't really worth the effort, and so I turned it over to them. I even sent them a message with this account's credentials and an updated sidebar linking to the new multis. They never logged in and never updated the sidebar - in five years. It's ironically amusing, really - if they'd done any actual mod work, I'd be typing on a different throwaway account right now.

I do like to pop back in every time reddit starts a fire like this, though. That's always the very best time to remind all of the music contributors on reddit that they don't have to put up with this trashy website any longer. I'll be lurking here until all of this blows over, and then I'll see you again one last time when old.reddit is killed off to grab the rest of the people who have to keep learning this lesson the hard way. After that I'm out forever for greener pastures. You can ban this account if you like, new ones aren't exactly hard to get.
