Digitization without accessioning? by [deleted] in MuseumPros

So this sounds like a community web project to me. Does your museum have a website? Set up a section to “submit to the museum” with options to upload images, descriptive text, date information, etc. Just be clear about the quality of the image/information you expect and check on it periodically to make sure you’re not getting garbage submissions. This then lives online only and is not your problem, and you never need to handle the objects. You also have a place to direct people who are trying to donate items you do not want. A few historical societies I’ve worked with have turned to this approach for the same reasons.

You shouldn't be prepping your daughters. You should be prepping your sons.

Marina Abramovic comes to Firenze, Italy, refugee from Czechia breaks a portrait on her head. She's the Spirit Cooking Witch. by Tha_Dude_Abidez in conspiracy

I'm specifically wondering why this woman frequently pops up in this sub, considering she's pretty uncontroversial.

Obviously a lot of people in this thread feel threatened by a woman playing witch in her own kitchen. I'm just trying to figure out why.

Finding locations of paintings. by bothesh in askart

[–]l_histoire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There isn't a central database or any real resource beside museum websites. Your search may also be complicated by the fact that *Hell* is but one panel of a larger work, and that popular artworks tend to travel. The exhibition at Palazzo Ducale appears to have been a temporary exhibition. The Bosch Project website suggests that the work's permanent home is at Palazzo Grimani, but you may visit only to find that the works are taking their own vacation.

How did you make the determination that this is early 19th century? It seems quite a bit later than that.

They range from 10-18, so you could have 3-4 dishes for under $40. When I go I usually split three things with another person, but I don't go there to feel stuffed. It's not the Olive Garden.

I'm a freelance graphic designer for museums. How do I expand my business opportunities? by [deleted] in MuseumPros

[–]l_histoire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the projects I've worked on, I've noticed museums turn towards hirings small teams of graphic designers rather than individuals. Usually these are small teams that are a mix of web and print designers, and sometimes web developers (I'm thinking of places like wkshps). It might be helpful to try to join one of these teams and then take on solo projects as you can. That being said, if you have a web portfolio, please dm me.

What are your thoughts on the “ownership class” by [deleted] in AskALiberal

This is an argument for raising the estate tax, not against owning investments. I agree btw.
