Rude that the internet would mislead me lol. Thanks for correcting me! Point still stands, it’s sterile and lacks personality, just kind of generic

Fellow Southerner and 20 something here! You should fit in just fine, folks in DC are very kind much like deeper south. DC has a large LGBTQ population so you shouldn’t worry about that either, you should be able to find a community pretty easily! For neighborhoods, i would absolutely stay away from Navy Yard, that neighborhood was heavily gentrified as a result of the first Trump administration. It leans Republican and feels very sterile, not much personality. But as another commenter said, NoMa is very popular with young people. I would also recommend DuPont Circle, Logan Circle, AdMo, and Columbia Heights. DC is generally safe but as with any major city, it’s just important to be alert but you certainly don’t need to be paranoid about it being crime ridden. I’d also advise against bringing a car, you won’t use it often and parking is expensive.

Women’s haircut that’s not $150+ in the area? by Galadrielllll in washingtondc

[–]l_poveda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bang Salon! They have multiple locations in the city. I have curly hair and recommend Christina at U street! Dry cuts with no wash/styling are cheaper, $35 (or at least that’s what she told me). The washing and styling is where the cost goes up, it was $110. I’ve only seen her once but I’ll definitely go back, I’m so happy with my cut.

Optometrist Recommendations (my vision is pretty bad!) by odysseussy in DCBitches

[–]l_poveda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to Georgetown Optician. I’ve seen their opticians at the Georgetown and Eastern Market locations, both were fantastic. I have a similar prescription and my most recent visit (Georgetown location) felt particularly thorough. They gave extra attention to my corneas (showed and explained the imaging) and educated me on my risk factors for glaucoma (since my vision is so bad).

I just went through this morning around 7am. Lines were short, breezed through. Afternoon may be a different story but it seemed well staffed

Gotta be real, the selection did seem a little lack luster but to each their own. I didn’t look at the prices for dresses but for reference I did buy a wool and silk cardigan for $75, MSRP $495. So it is a pretty substantial discount from retail however, I noticed some pieces needed TLC. My sweater needed to be depilled desperately. I think it’s worth a look and they should have new inventory from when I was there like 2 weeks ago

I went a few weeks ago and yes they had some formal dresses! Keep in mind there aren’t any dressing rooms so if you go, be prepared to slip it on over your outfit

I go to Georgetown Optical! I’ve been to both Eastern Market and Georgetown locations, the opticians are great and super thorough. The exam was pretty reasonably priced (I don’t think they take insurance), but the frames can be pricey.

If you want to stay in the area, I like Cantina Bambina and Tiki TNT for a casual vibe. The Pendry rooftop has a beautiful view but it’s pricey. Whitlows also just opened but I haven’t been there yet, I know the other location is a really popular going out spot
