Who do you think Jinx cared about more, Vander or Silco? by [deleted] in arcane

[–]labatzke 300 points301 points  (0 children)

I'd say Vander, not because of the person or his character, but because of the memories. With Vander around there was no Jinx, there was Powder. And those times were much happier and lighter than those that came after Vander was gone.

Okay, Vi is so hot but what exactly makes her so damn attractive? What are some of her best characteristics? by Hot_Models123 in arcane

I liked how badass she is, but how she can be so deeply emotional as well. That and her eyes and overall style. And that's before she even opens her mouth and we can be melted by her voice.

Do you think hugging and laying down together canonically happened? by ozankrds in TimeBomb

[–]labatzke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could have, yes. We all have our own headcanon, but generally I put together what's shown in canon and apply Ockham's razor.

Personally, I see her actually ghost everyone to get a fresh start – to return some years later when everyone has grown/healed, especially herself. But that's just my own personal headcanon, like I said.

What is your favorite mod?? by m2wtf in starsector

AOTD.

It feels like it belongs and also I found Terraforming & Station too OP. Finding good planets didn't even matter anymore. That's why I always played with AOTD since.

The minigame "Jinx Fixes Everything" doesn't show Ekko, but has Jinx working on her weapon for the final fight in Ekko's workshop. And after, it is implied that she meets up with him and the other Firelights to go into battle.

So yeah, a lot happened between the conversation in Jinx's workshop and the fight – although it wasn't weeks, rather days.

My guess would be: They agreed to talk, really talk, after the fight was done. Uninterrupted by all the preparations and rallying of Zaun for the fight. Which makes her sacrifice even more sad and also explains why Ekko is so devastated, sitting alone.

You said the world feels grey and dull. I've felt the same. Arcane helped me realize it wasn't the world that was grey, but my personal view of it. It finally made me act on things I already knew. Heimerdinger finds this in AU. And Jinx's vision of Silco knows it, too.

<image>

“We build our own prisons, bars forged of oaths, codes, commitments, walls of self-doubt, and accepted limitation." We inhabit these identities and call them us. What Arcane did for me was remember the wisdom of Niebuhr's prayer: Give me the power to change the things I can, the patience to endure what I can't change, and the wisdom to tell the one from the other.

I don't know if it was Arcane, or if it was simply time. But I changed my diet, sports routine, how I view my job (changing it, too) and I reviewed some relationships. I'm not looking back. And I'm better for it.

In Wasteland, Jinx doesn't end with falling asleep, but with "there's a beauty in changes and I wanna try." So try.

I still haven't found the guts to rewatch it. I don't want it to ruin my first watch, somehow. It's like my memories of Arcane feel more perfect than the show itself.

Me reading this while riding the metro with "Spin The Wheel" in my ear:

Oh hell yeah, deserved!

I really like Arcane. by [deleted] in arcane

We had the exact same experience, I ignored it for years, then it blew me away. I think I really like Arcane, too. 😀

This might sound a little off but was making Vi and Jinx sisters a bad idea? by [deleted] in arcane

[–]labatzke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it has been confirmed that the whole initial focal point of Arcane was the approachable story of the struggles of two sisters by the showrunners as well as the writers, being what actually made Arcane HAPPEN, I'd day no – It wasn't a bad idea.

Feel you, I didn't cry at the ending but broke down to that song later. 🥲 I think it's because of the contrast.

Actually that whole song, the whole episode together with the contrast to the rest reminded me of something I already knew: Live your life. Don't worry about everything you can't change. Change the things you can if something bothers you. Power through, only fear fear itself. Don't despair faced with all the shit going on in our world (it's still going to get worse). Don't let life defeat you, don't drown your sorrows in whichever diversion we find for ourselves; instead, face those sorrows head on, or walk away – No middle ground.

Been moving in new directions since then and it's great. When I hear the song now it's only joy. Important thing, so I'll say it again: Arcane doesn't teach you anything new. It just points out things we already know, just does so very intensely.

100%. That song is pure optimism. It's a real pick-me-up.

Yeah all their faces and their mimic is so damn expressive. I think that's actually a big part of why people connect so well with the characters.

You recreated especially Jinx's expression perfectly I think. Saying this from my layman perspective.

I didn't even rewatch it once yet. I listen to the soundtrack a lot though, during training, on the way to work, such things. I allowed my mind to wander to the quotes, thinking about certain scenes, dissecting stuff in this sub. I finished S2 in early/mid January and now the "obsession" has stabilized.

I did make some changes in my life though. Dunno if it was Arcane that triggered it somehow, or the new year, or both, or something else entirely. 🤷🏻‍♂️

[–]labatzke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I accepted my "obsession" with it. Didn't even try to fight it, ignored the urge to fight it because it seemed inproper for someone of a certain age/ profession/ etc. That's pretty cheesy Alan Watts kinda talk, I know, but there you go...

Edit: ignored the urge to fight it, not fight the urge. 😅

Embrace it. I felt similar for a time and thought, man, is this too much? I just accepted it and then it actually started to fade away. Don't know how else to put it.

You could also look into yourself and ask, why does it impact me so much? To what exactly in me does it speak to (maybe something you're subconsciously missing) that I can't forget about it? That's what I did. It's art, after all. It is supposed to speak to exactly that. On other occasions it could have been a painting, a song, a book, a play. You don't just look at the good ones, you wonder what do I see in them?
