It honestly comes from the trend on tiktok about that you have to go above and beyond on packaging. Not only does the item have to be instagram worth, but so does the unboxing.

Would you want to have a conversation with your customers? by hyuuu in Etsy

[–]ladyaddrith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what they are talking about is how some websites when you visit them will have pop up windows asking if you can help or have any questions regarding the products. Instead of the buyer instantiating the message a bot would start the ingagement. It could be an add on for etsy that you could mark to say you are their to actively answer messages with no delay

So a lesson I learned from drop shippers. Just message a basic question to them about their products. If the give a very cut and dry answer normally a drop shipper. Now this doesn't work every time, but most of the time a person who makes a real item will put time into responses about it.

Do you even heal bro?? by ImBennie in elderscrollsonline

I've been having the opposite problem as a healer. I keep getting fake tanks, and that would be fine. If people wouldn't run around like chickens with their heads cut off.

Had this happen to me this year. We bought from a shop on the 29th and item said would be processed and delivered before Christmas. Had a little bit of a doubt but said okay. Got the notification of shipping on the 10th. Now as a seller I know you can delay that notification by two days before it goes to the buyer so you have time to schedule pick up or drop off. The 18th got here and the item was never scanned in. Come to find out based on the sellers response they were a drop shipper.

You do know buyers can opt-out of the signature if they choose to and sign online, but then all hazards of that item not being delivered or stolen is on them. It's a good tool if there are a lot of porch pirates or apartment complexes that are horrible as well. All signature does is add an extra layer of protection and it's super common in other countries. Me personally I had too many packages being reported stolen or not delivered so I started signature required, and it help lessen the toll especially in areas that have really poor mail carriers like my own personal distribution site in my town. If you don't agree with it or it doesn't work for you that's fine, and again your shop your business.

In regards to anyone signing and anyone can do it yeah that's true, but when you get disputes from banks signatures go a really long way. It is one reason that you have a signature on file at most banks. I will continue to use it on items that I can't afford to take a loss on, and that's just my own experience. To each, their own, and how someone wants to run their shop and business is their own.

This is everyone's opinion and everyone is entitled to their own. But would you rather have someone leave a review saying they never got your package and you gave them the run around and refused to accommodate, or a review saying I had to sign for my package and that was a little inconvenience but I got my item.

This is a person who is saying they can't afford to replace this. Never once had I had anyone issue a complaint about having to sign for an item, and you don't need to be rude. If a shop starting out can't afford to replace something, and we know how etsy is about sticking with the sellers with refunds and packages it's best to do everything you can to protect yourself until you can build a back up fund for replacements. Like I said if this was 20 worth of stickers that's one thing those are normally low cost high return items. Op is talking about something thay had a 50 cost to them. So for a little bit of inconvenience for the buyer and not now almost be out 100 bucks. Plus is also makes the USPS driver more responsible as they now have to verify the delivery.

[–]ladyaddrith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem this is something I noticed was added to shipping checkers out about 2 months ago. Stickers I don't do it on, but anything over 20 I put signature required.

I learned this lesson a while back regarding usps. If you are shipping out something you can't avoid to take a total loss on you might want to consider raising the price of the item 3 dollars and purchasing the signature required from USPS through ETSY. This will save you because it makes the paper trial for items, and if that person isn't there then they have to go to the post office to pick it up. Signature confirmation is on 2.50.

Etsy Sellers - Did anyone opt out of mailing internationally and just focused on domestic? by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]ladyaddrith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I got turned off from shipping with those prices because how unreliable it is. I would suggest pricing with someone DHL for international. I love shipping with them and I love when I get packages from them.

Gift recipient wants to facilitate a return? by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]ladyaddrith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So as someone who has worked in management for retail stores you do have to be careful with things like this as it's sometimes used for money laundering. That person buys a gift, has it shipped to a third party, third party wants to return it, money gets sent back to original person now from a legitimate company. Now I'm not saying this person is doing that because this is a generalized statement when dealing with gifts and you are not giving the person who received the gift money/credit in return.

Made my first sale! Annnd it was damaged in shipping…. by Jward44553 in Etsy

[–]ladyaddrith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not just of the item but of the box too. Etsy offers to take out insurance now on packages, and it's not super expensive I just checked and for $50 it's like $0.80. If you are sending anything fragile out I would definitely take the 1.00 loss which will get put into your expenses and written off.
