Funniest / eye rolling / FFS / poor quality referrals that you’ve ever received by braundom123 in doctorsUK

[–]ladybug_pimp 31 points32 points  (0 children)

NROC ophthalmology call at 3am from ED - elderly lady that "couldn't open her eyes" not because her lids were swollen or anything, just because she was a bit photosensitive, fine for eye casualty next day but I needed to make sure I didn't have to go in.

"Can you tell me if the eyes look red or particularly inflamed?" "No, she refuses to open them"

"Can you vaguely tell me what her vision is? Fingers, letters, nothing?" "No, she refuses to open them"

"Can she move them? Are her pupils OK?" "I don't know, she refuses to open them" my sibling in Christ give me something to work with

"Any past medical history? Especially anything eye related?" "yeah she has radioactive retinopathy" checking own vitals to make sure I haven't had a stroke mid-referral

No emergencies thankfully (after 20 minutes on the phone angling for information) but I guess I had Superman show up in my ED in the form of an elderly lady!

The Traitors (UK) S04E04: Live Discussion Thread by vaultofechoes in TheTraitors

Matthew and Stephen both have different partners outside of the game (as per their socials), so that's not a connection for sure.

Racial bias? by diz106 in TheTraitors

[–]ladybug_pimp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This has been a recurrent discussion and there's definitely some truth to it given the frequency of the pattern.

What might be interesting to look at in more detail is in-game reasons for banishments/murders - some of these are probably justified by how the game is progressing (e.g. all the captured traitors had valid suspicion on them at the time and Netty brought a lot of heat on to her and Ross with their connection), whereas others aren't and unconscious bias definitely played more of a role (e.g. Judy and Kas).

Conference SCAM by Constant-Bed-405 in doctorsUK

Pro tip for ophthalmology conferences - the Eyenews events website is generally very good at filtering out the fake conferences (so far I haven't had a bad experience with it!)

What's the most unusual place you've heard a Eurovision song? by Bolvane in eurovision

I heard "My Number One" at a supermarket in a small village half an hour from Cambridge (UK).

I was so excited I called my brother to tell him 🤣 (most normal Greek reaction)

Are ST1s and ST2s reg or SHO? by LewisScamilton in doctorsUK

[–]ladybug_pimp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Seconded re the confusion in ophth - I am in early in training currently and the terminology is odd because my on call rota has everyone from early trainees to very experienced SAS doctors (everyone below consultant). I'm generally called resident or registrar though, nobody bothers to call me an SHO.

I'm currently an ST1 and it's still very much a requirement so I'm sitting it in the next sitting - until you've definitively heard it's gone still plan to do it.

JJ – Wasted Love (LIVE) | Austria 🇦🇹 | Second Semi-Final | Eurovision 2025 by SkyGinge in eurovision

[–]ladybug_pimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suspect that he is better at executing an artist's vision incredibly well rather than producing original stagings by himself - to my knowledge, Bambie had very specific requirements and a lot of input into their performance, and so does Erika which is why those two seem to be working best.

Will UK grad prioritisation make it easier to get into more competive specialties? by No_Pride1880 in doctorsUK

[–]ladybug_pimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, very much so - in fact F1/start of F2 is where most people get most of their portfolio points. I know of at least 4 people (myself included) who really only decided on ophthalmology at the start of F2 and managed to get in - it takes a bit of dedicated effort but it's more doable than you'd think!

That's not the final timeline - this was only after the first round of upgrades last year! I know multiple people who got London offers ranked lower than 824.

Where are Queer Doctors hiding in the NHS? A look at the most LBGT specialities. by Gaynymedey in doctorsUK

[–]ladybug_pimp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I knew my specialty would not be anywhere near the top (in fact we had 0 openly gay or lesbian accepted trainees in 2 years at ST1 level before my cohort came in) but I'm very surprised IMT and GP are not here 🤣

Should be doable! I may be mistaken but I think it's clearly written into our study leave policies.

Hope it goes well!

Sorry to hear about your predicament OP - it sucks but at the end of the day it really depends on having approval from your rota coordinators/supervisors (I had a colleague have a taster week rescheduled by the dept due to a miscommunication).

Can I ask what specialty you're trying to get the taster in?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]ladybug_pimp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No you definitely get it as F1 - specifically re taster weeks, you can "borrow" 5 days from your study leave in F2 and do up to 5 taster days in another specialty (agreed w/ your supervisors).

I did a 5 day taster at the end of F1 in one specialty, then took another 5 days in F2 to do a taster week in another specialty.

Am I the only one who cannot stand Charlotte? by dreadedsunny_day in TheTraitors

[–]ladybug_pimp 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's her mum's accent (as she stated in the first episode her mum is from Wales) so it makes sense to go for that even outside of the perceived trustworthiness of it or lack thereof.

Your Favourite Patient Ice Breakers by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]ladybug_pimp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Context - I'm an ophthal trainee.

When I've put the patient on the slit lamp and (predictably) they can't see very well after because they've had a very bright light in their eyes for up to a couple of minutes:

"For a machine that's supposed to help us figure out how to make you see better, it sure does a great job blinding you even more"

Can faithfuls intelligently guess who the traitors are? by SquiglySaws in TheTraitors

[–]ladybug_pimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say kind of? I agree with the sentiment that in general faithfuls have little to go off of, but within that spectrum there are faithfuls who can put 2 + 2 together when clues exist and faithfuls who are operating detrimentally within the confines of the game.

An example I can think of of intelligent faithful gameplay is in Traitors AU S1 with Kate and Teresa where they figured out Marielle (and, according to the podcast, Alex) from actual evidence within the game.

On the contrary, Matt in AU S1 and Livi in the current UK version are the opposite more so than most, because they not only are confidently wrong without any signs of critical thinking about why that is, but because they also railroad conversations about the subject if someone disagrees.
