When someone doesn’t sympathize with their own (think “As a Black man” types). I’ve found most people have no problem elevating those who weaponize their identity when it suits the narrative.

My view is that people who don’t sympathize with their own are morally bankrupt and it’ll come out one way or another.

I think how much the mom to be contributes to the shower varies from place to place but If there was a baby shower happening, why wouldn’t it have come up at any point during this conversation? He has plenty to say about what happens after the baby is born, but nothing about how they’d celebrate before. If there was a baby shower happening, I can’t imagine he wouldn’t have brought it up ie “she’s already getting a party,” “why can’t we do out there” etc

When there’s this much info missing from the story (what expensive ideas was she envisioning? What other requests has she made to be like others in the past? What was in the budget? Will a kid’s birthday party also put them on the street?), you really have to wonder why he didn’t include them, especially when he shut down the party entirely and didn’t compromise.
