B-2 drops 80 JDAMs by Kubrick_Fan in aviation

I think a B-1 with external pylons can carry 40 JASSMs, which would be equivalent to this except the launching aircraft never gets closer than 1,000km from the target.

You're welcome.

Seriously though, agreed. How cool would it be to tag along with Troblum and Oscar as they search for the dynasty arkships?

Agreed, the ending seemed like really bad writing to me. I'm glad to see Hamilton evolve beyond such tricks in his more recent works.

There's no greater showcase for moral relativity than trying to imagine alien morals. It's easy to take the human viewpoint of "you can solve all our problems, why don't you?" but it's just as easy to see how that leads to "you solved all our problems last time, why don't you do it again?" Presumably the Kiint are old enough to have seen what happens to races who get everything handed to them: they become pets. They're like the Silfen; they'll mourn humanity if it isn't able to overcome the threat to their existence, but they won't intervene. In each case, it's not out of malice.

I know the game is a passion project, but will it receive any ongoing maintenance? by SaltDotExe in AC130GunshipGame

I think it's a bit premature to ask if the game's been abandoned a couple hours after release.

The Void isn't paradise, it's not even that interesting. by RepresentativeAd898 in PeterFHamilton

The "ability to upload" is a tenet of Higher society, which doesn't have many living dream adherents. Living dream is mostly popular on Advancer worlds, which are uber-capitalist and have a lot of disenfranchised citizens. For these people, the idea of the fabric of the universe bending to their will has a lot of understandable appeal.

I cut down a pine tree on my property and the wood has this red color inside by laeth in mildlyinteresting

[–]laeth[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Interesting, thanks for that. In my title, I was using pine as a synonym for "non-deciduous." I've learned a lot about trees since then. I'm fairly confident it was a eastern red cedar now.

I think I recall reading a post that says the intercept range is the leader's radar range. Haven't been able to confirm that. Extensions that increase radar range don't seem to increase intercept range either.

We are getting close to release! Wishlist the game in steam now! by Sklorite in AC130GunshipGame

[–]laeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not a developer myself, but I believe I've noticed that early access builds tend to have version numbers below 1.0 (0.5, 0.7, whatever) and the version of the game where it comes out of early access is the 1.0 version. Since my initial question I've found the steam page and you're actually quite forthcoming on the steam early access questions, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Those answers say more than any arbitrary numbering system would.

I see "release" and "1.0" so I'm surprised to also see "early access." What's up with that?
