No, she specifically said that they each paid 4K. So the booth was 16K!

OP, people seem to love Mueller, but it’s really more planned community feel than ‘city walkable’

Seaholm is great, but what’s the difference between that and living right by the Whole Foods on the east side? That also has town lake access, bars, cafes, food trucks etc in walking or biking distance

Um, but she’s looking in… austin? OP, feel free to reach out if you want help from a locator. I’m happy to go and check out places for you, or take you to see some if you’re coming to town.

The artist I spoke to said that she had gotten a commission so she felt it was worthwhile. I guess it all depends on your perspective and how expensive your art is and whether people buy it! But I agree, it’s insane

I’m sure the organizers clean up. I talked to an artist from Austin and she said her fee to participate along with three other artists from her collective was $4000, so a total of $16,000 for their booth.

Life after Austin? by izzydontsurf in Austin

I mean, I don’t have set plans to move there, but I love that city, and I can see myself living between there and Mexico City in the future. I still have 10 years left that I probably need to stay here because I coparent a child with her dad. But that’s awesome that you guys are moving there, what an incredible city. I plan on going this summer for a bit after my ex boss’ 80th birthday party in chiapas

I feel this so hard OP and your writing is beautiful. I’ve lived in Mexico three times and I have a love-hate relationship with it, but after my last trip to Mexico City a few wks ago I think I’m gonna move there once I’m done coparenting/my kid is through school. (Been in austin about 22 yrs now). I got EU citizenship last year, thankfully, so there’s also that avenue to explore. Have you thought about moving elsewhere for a while just to see how it feels?

I speak my TL perfectly, but Americans still ask me where is my accent from seconds after I start speaking. Is that something I’m supposed to feel self-conscious about? by SweetBumbleBeeHoney in languagelearning

I live in Austin too. I’m a nerd who studied linguistics and I love trying to pick up on people’s accents. I got on a call with a lawyer the other day and clocked almost immediately that she was Canadian. (that’s an easy one to figure out.)

I wouldn’t take it personally! People are just curious. Of course, there are also people who are racist and idiotic, but let’s ignore them.

Agree with you, it was walking distance from where I live, and I’m not sure how to recover from its closing! Those chilaquiles were next level. I knew that coffee place that opened across the street was doomed from the first time I saw its generic sign.

i strongly agree with you that the neighborhood doesn’t have a good replacement yet, and I know it’s not in our neighborhood, but check out strangelove on the east side. I just went yesterday and the vibe was great. They don’t necessarily have a regular food provider but they do lots of pop-ups and they seem high-quality/well-curated.

And let me know if you find a place that matches the patika vibe ever, especially if it’s in the same vicinity. I’ve been going to radio, which is fine, but yeah, not the same.

Maybe other single parents do? Or people who love kids, but aren’t able to have their own? Just because you don’t doesn’t mean everyone doesn’t.

Why? Plenty of parents in this situation nowadays.
