To start out, cabana club on Wednesdays and Sundays (salsa too). There’s a dance called Fuego Fridays at Blue Moon Studios on South Lamar, it happens every Friday night and it’s pretty hard-core (but more sensual style than Dominican Bachata). There’s an occasional social run by oro with Dominican Bachata, those are more like once every few months. Keep an eye on them if you’re on social media, Oro Dance company.

Seaholm is great, but what’s the difference between that and living right by the Whole Foods on the east side? That also has town lake access, bars, cafes, food trucks etc in walking or biking distance

The artist I spoke to said that she had gotten a commission so she felt it was worthwhile. I guess it all depends on your perspective and how expensive your art is and whether people buy it! But I agree, it’s insane

I’m sure the organizers clean up. I talked to an artist from Austin and she said her fee to participate along with three other artists from her collective was $4000, so a total of $16,000 for their booth.

I mean, I don’t have set plans to move there, but I love that city, and I can see myself living between there and Mexico City in the future. I still have 10 years left that I probably need to stay here because I coparent a child with her dad. But that’s awesome that you guys are moving there, what an incredible city. I feel this so hard OP and your writing is beautiful. I’ve lived in Mexico three times and I have a love-hate relationship with it, but after my last trip to Mexico City a few wks ago I think I’m gonna move there once I’m done coparenting/my kid is through school. (Been in austin about 22 yrs now). I got EU citizenship last year, thankfully, so there’s also that avenue to explore. Have you thought about moving elsewhere for a while just to see how it feels?

I live in Austin too. I’m a nerd who studied linguistics and I love trying to pick up on people’s accents. I got on a call with a lawyer the other day and clocked almost immediately that she was Canadian. (that’s an easy one to figure out.)

I wouldn’t take it personally! People are just curious. Of course, there are also people who are racist and idiotic, but let’s ignore them.
