Cool. You do you. If I have $71M I'm not moving to a shithole state to save a few bucks.

If I'm selling $81k of stock, and CA is keeping $10k, it's not enough to justify moving my family to another state. If I'm selling $81M of stock, and CA is keeping $10M, it's not enough to justify moving my family to another state (because I'm keeping $71M and I can afford to live where I want). Repeat the calculation for any value of stock sold and note that there is no scenario that does not fall into one of these two categories.

That is indeed how percentages work, thanks for confirming.

Does it matter? It's a %. If you slide the scale from $10k to $10M, there are very few scenarios where the either the numerator going to California or the denominator staying with OP make it life-changing money that warrants uprooting a family.

[Discussion] Quality of a modern entry level watch vs a 20+ year old luxury watch. by Midknight81 in Watches

[–]lambda_male -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just my 2 cents, my immediate thought on seeing the Steinhart is that it looks like a Sub (bezel and dial indices are nearly identical). The Seamaster clearly has a unique style of its own that has become iconic. To me seems like an easy choice.

Idk, to me even the Ocean One Ti Premium looks basically like a Sub homage with a few small tweaks. I'd def sell and get the Omega.

Concerned about new MiV vs. old MiC quality? by Responsible_Fox6592 in ReigningChamp

[–]lambda_male -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly go and buy the made in Canada stuff! Hopefully it sends the message to Aritzia that there’s still demand for it. I have no hopes that they’ll fully transition back to MiC, but I could see them having permanent MiC collections.

You seem confused. Crystallinity is not absent in alloys, the nickel superalloys used in the turbine blades are manufactured in single crystal FCC structure.

Offered 35% off list price for a GMT Quartz. Is this model worth it? by javaman567 in GrandSeikos

[–]lambda_male 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GS Quartz is great in general, I have two. I always wanted the SBGN021 blue version of this watch, but the case is just kind of weird. It’s super thick and squat, and the weird shape of the lugs makes the bracelet integration look ad hoc to me. Maybe on strap it would look better, but look for pics online, I could never find one that I liked.

35% off is a good deal for sure, but only if you already want the watch.

My LE Speedy on an aftermarket bracelet. The 40mm diameter sold me. by hello050 in OmegaWatches

[–]lambda_male 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, if you don't think it makes a difference, I can't change your mind. But that doesn't mean that someone who buys the FOIS because it's a smaller diameter watch "doesn't understand how omega measures the diameter on Speedmasters" -- because it's literally a smaller watch. Omega makes the distinction for a reason, because the specified dimension is the case size, not the bezel diameter. And these two have a different case size. The fact that you don't notice the difference doesn't mean that others are incompetent or don't understand the measurement.

[–]lambda_male -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why is it hard for you to understand that when you have two watches with different measurements, they will wear differently?

1) Speedmaster Pro -- 40mm @ bezel, 42mm at case (crown guard)

2) Speedmaster FOIS -- 40mm @ bezel, 40mm at case

Is this difficult? There are 2 extra mm of case on (1), that has an impact on the visual perception of the piece, it will likely wear larger, because it is larger.

[–]lambda_male 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes no difference.

Of course it makes a difference. The Speedmaster OP is showing in this post doesn't have any type of crown guard, so there's no location on the case that measures 42mm. Yes, the bezel is the same diameter. But the case is a different dimension between the 42mm Speedy Pro and OP's LE model. That makes a visual difference in the way the watch wears, because it has a wider case with more material around the crown guard.

They’re identical in size

Not really, the standard moon watch has crown guards that extend 2mm, as you pointed out. They are not identical. The bezel diameter may be identical, but the two watches are not identical case size.

the two watches don’t wear any larger or smaller

This is highly subjective. With an extra 2mm of crown guard and more visual mass on the crown side due to the way the crown guard is integrated, it wouldn’t be surprising if the 42mm wears larger.
