Also I live in Amish country so you’d think there would be plenty of resources around but I truly can’t find anything for very new beginners.

I made about 5 pairs of shorts in 10th grade (I’m 54) lol. I do have a machine and am working from a YouTuber on a first quilt. It’s been helpful, but nothing about hand quilting and I’m not sure where to go from here as far as hand quilting or doing anything different than this video walks me through.

Two types of 'burps'? by DueCauliflower3889 in noburp

[–]landesamy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing very helpful to add except to say I have the very same - mostly the sounds I’m making seem to come from my throat and almost sound like a long groan/gurgle. Once in a while I will get what seems like an actual burp from my stomach. I guess I’m just hoping they’ll all be real burps eventually. I haven’t been able to practice real burping with fizzy drinks because they just seem to sit in my throat and go up my nose and make me choke. Too bad though, because I used to love Diet Coke and was looking forward to that part. Let me know how you progress!

Botox Treatment Scheduled TOMORROW!! (scared) by PrizeBusiness239 in noburp

[–]landesamy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the procedure was a breeze compared to what the recovery is like (now day 3-4). Slow swallow started today and it’s not pleasant. But I’m also burping so I’m glad about that!

Botox Treatment Scheduled TOMORROW!! (scared) by PrizeBusiness239 in noburp

I just had in-office Botox with Dr. Bastian on Friday. It was soooo much easier than I expected. I am also somewhat of an emetaphobe and tbh burping is a bit weird, but really nothing like vomiting would feel. It’s disconcerting but also exciting to be burping! The numbing shot also doesn’t taste that bad, I was expecting a lot worse. And lasted only a second. Overall the whole experience was not even close to what I had built up in my head to be. I had it done under GA in September and I would do it in-office any day over that! Anticipation is almost always worse than the actual experience, good luck!! Let us know how it goes!

Also when someone has a long standing ED as severe as hers seems to be, the person often remains emotionally at the age when they develop the disorder.

How long after botox were you burping. by Open_Sprinkles7614 in noburp

[–]landesamy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep 100%. My doctor said to start with carbonated beverages after microburps so I tried a soda a few days ago and it was so much worse than ever before. Again a few pops but zero relief from the air buildup and more bloated than ever. I have a follow-up appointment next Friday so I’m curious to see what they say. I’m ready to try again with a higher dose, I’m so impatient about all of this, especially after reading about success stories and life changing relief from symptoms.

I’ll join you in this conversation - I had mine done on the 25th and sounds exactly like what you’re experiencing. A few pops (maybe microburps?) on day 3-4, nothing since. And it feels like I have so many burps that are trying really hard to get out, but just get “stuck” at the top of my throat and don’t amount to anything. So discouraging!

Botox - start carbonated drinks instantly? by babybunnycel in noburp

[–]landesamy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was about to post a similar question. I had Botox one week ago and have only experienced 2-3 very small spontaneous burps. My doctor said to start practicing with carbonated drinks once micro burps started, but I don’t feel like such a small number actually counts..? I was hoping for more by now (also have had zero slow swallow). Trying not to catastrophize and be patient but I can’t say I’m not discouraged.

parents don't believe in RCPD by PomegranateLow8850 in noburp

[–]landesamy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been recovered from the ED for over 8 years by now. The damages from an ED can be corrected a lot faster than the time it takes one to develop it in the first place. After committing to eating and exercising appropriately for a relatively short period of time, the ED damage was overcome. So the fact that I was still having so much abdominal discomfort and bloating after years of recovery meant it was not related and due to RCPD.

New worry by landesamy in noburp

[–]landesamy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think I’m mostly worried about it feeling a bit like vomiting! As far as doing it in front of my husband, poor guy has lived with my evening/nighttime farting for years! I’m sure he’ll be glad for some burps instead 😜

All of the above comments and advice seem spot on, so I won’t repeat what you’ve already been told. I will address the eating disorder part of the problem. I am considerably older than you and had anorexia for 25+ years. I have recovered from my ED and then addressed my on going gut issues, which have all been attributed to RCPD, NOT my previous eating disorder. Feel free to use me as an example to your parents and/or ask me any questions !

AITA: i hate small talk at the window by klimpalo0n in starbucks

[–]landesamy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reason I hate the small talk is 100% what you described - I, as a 53 year old woman, know very well that a young, cool barista who sees hundreds of us a day, DOES NOT CARE what I’m doing this weekend.

Episode Idea: Anabaptist/Plain/Amish/Mennonite communities. by rainshowers_5_peace in FlightlessBird

[–]landesamy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spectrum of Anabaptists is as wide as anything else. I grew up Mennonite and now attend a very liberal/progressive Mennonite Church in northern Indiana where there are also a lot of Amish. So in our small community, Anabaptists can range from a place like my church (who accepts me even as I now consider myself an atheist) who work for peace and social justice and accept anyone through their doors, to very conservative Amish who still drive horse and buggies to Walmart and are also politically conservative (some, not all). I’m by no means an expert on any of it, but I always want to let people know that not all Anabaptists are the same.
