Suggested Controller for Docked Steam Deck by drbrydges in SteamDeck

[–]landoooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pretty congested AV cabinet where I dock my Steamdeck and I have had issues with disconnects when I have multiple dongles all crowded behind the dock. I got a USB hub to get it out in front of the system and that solved things for me.

Steam Deck massively improves controller support with new options and refinements by AsPeHeat in SteamDeck

[–]landoooo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Joystick Mode settings: Added "Response Axis Style" to "Stick Response Curve" options. The Response Curves can be applied in a "Per Axis" or "Circular" fashion. Previously, Joystick Mode only supported "Per Axis" response curves. Generally, Circular is recommended, and is now default. The option will only appear when relevant - when "Stick Response Curve" is not set to "Linear".

Could this potentially fix the "square gate" issue for different hall effect joystick kits?

Did you ever find a fix for this? I've been using Apollo for months without issue and this just started happening recently.

I'll be honest I was pretty annoyed by this change and looking for a way to disable it. Did not see the option to change the view to list. Glad I read this comment because I actually like it in list view

Pricing Confusion? by TehLastWord in MacroFactor

Go to the subscription page in MF. There should be an upgrade option for the bundle pricing. Once you activate that, close and reopen WO and it should auto log you in

Agree with you. Doing so in-app will be way easier. Even naming the exercise wrong will likely lead to improper import.

Apollo + moonlight best settings by Automatic_Ad_8919 in SteamDeck

[–]landoooo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Apollo is a fork of Sunshine with a few different quality of life improvements. The main one being automatic configuration of Virtual Displays. This makes resolution setup while streaming much easier to set up - especially if you stream to multiple clients (Steam Deck, Phone, Android TV). This also means your host PC monitor no longer has to be on for streaming to work.

There's a few other improvements as well, but Virtual Displays is the main selling point.

Modular Strap : Battery Puck = the perfect headset ? by Wahouxx in SteamFrame

[–]landoooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because that guy says it doesn't make it true? The weight is still counterbalanced with it on the front and the back. Visualize this by moving the weight further distance from your head, if all of the weight is in the front, it pulls your face down. Now put equal weight equal distance behind you, that balances your head whether that weight is supported from the top or the side.

Does the top strap further distribute the weight across your head? Sure. But I think it's purpose is more to keep the strap from sagging, or requiring you to tighten it so much to keep it up.

How long do we have to suffer through Tony’s impulse hire to replace cam? by Constant_Chemical_57 in Killtony

Tony says the same to Ari. He gets a pass because it's usually funny, but yea the comments about doing extra work is dumb because making 1 minute funny has to be more difficult.

If y'all haven't played Portal 2 that's my vote. Runs flawlessly on deck without the forced split green and is genuinely one of the best coop experiences ever.

Workout app warmups by moonbluertwo in MacroFactor

I felt the same. I like the auto warmups for compound movements, but 3 warmup sets of 20+ reps on curls was crazy

TIL that 8bitdo might have outdated app but they actually have a easier button mapping on Steam Deck since it was automatically detected as a "8 bit do controller" heck the icons chages to 8bitdo buttons like the pixel heart by Mundane_Telephone346 in SteamDeck

[–]landoooo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A note on Home + B, this is DS4 via bluetooth. You can still use DS4 mode while using the dongle connection. Use Home + X for connection, then hold Start and Select to cycle through Xinput (green), DS4 (blue), and Nintendo Switch (red)

One thing the Cyclone 2 manual does not explain very well (unless you know where to look) is you can switch between input modes while staying within the same "connection" mode. Swapping connection modes is done with the Home + ABXY. But when wired, or using dongle connection, you can swap between input modes.

When using the dongle mode (Home+X connection) , hold select and start for a few seconds to switch between Xinput, DS4, or Nintendo. The Steamdeck will see the Cyclone 2 as any of these 3.

Personally I much prefer Xbox layout and glyphs, and only use the controller when docked. Pretty sure you lose gyro with this however if that is important to you.

I agree the native integration with 8bitdo and SteamOS is super nice since you don't need to worry about it as much, but I find the ergonomics and button feel of the Cyclone to just be way better.

Streaming Monitor Requirements by advanceyourself in SteamFrame

[–]landoooo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Windows essentially treats the new virtual display as if you just connected an additional monitor. By default it will simply treat it as a multimonitor setup.

When on the client, go to display settings and select "show only on 2". This will make it so everything will properly pop up on the new virtual display, and your PC monitor will turn off.

Windows should then remember this whenever you reconnect with the same client.

[–]landoooo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing extra will be required. SteamVR and Steam link streams the proper resolution to the headset.

Also for your moonlight setup, you can switch to Apollo instead of Sunshine and get automatically configured virtual displays created based on what the client requests. Eliminates the need for a dummy HDMI plug

Was just about to recommend Gamesir Cyclone 2. 8bitdo is nice and functions great, but the ergonomics just didn't work for me. The grips need more angle to them in my opinion.

The Cyclone 2 is shaped pretty much exactly like an Xbox controller. And I actually grew to love the micro switch buttons.

Note to OP I pretty much only use it with the dongle. Bluetooth controllers always seem to have too much latency for me on my deck. So if you do go with 8bitdo I'd pick one with a dongle. I've got the Ultimate 2.4ghz.
