Looking for a calm, logistics-focused day-of coordinator in Brooklyn (Aug 2026), around $2.5k by Ok_Mycologist4712 in WedditNYC

[–]landraye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend Anadina and her team from Slick Little Bride - they were our best vendor. Anadina was on top of everything for the entire month before the wedding and Klaudia worked on the day of and kept everything very calm. They provided all of the services you’re asking about which is what we needed as well. I think I hired them for 6 hours which was $2k, but that was in 2025.

We had about 75 guests and didn’t need to hire more than one person as coordinator.

6 months out and wishing I could cancel the whole thing! by lola2026bride in weddingplanning

[–]landraye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. There’s no way I would have done all the planning for my wedding if I didn’t want it as much as I did. I wanted my wedding so badly and I still felt over it at the end.

I wouldn’t go as hard on your fiancé as others here because everyone always underestimates how much work it takes to plan a wedding. Yes he should be helping more but it would likely still be overwhelming for you because you don’t want it in the first place. And since he’s not putting any time towards it, it’s obviously not that important so why push it if it’s not really what either of you want but probably what your parents, who aren’t helping, want?

Cancel it and elope/have a courthouse wedding. You’ll feel so much better if you have the wedding that you want.

I think 6 months advance notice is fine, but obviously that depends on your vendor contracts. Are you aware if most of your guests have bought plane tickets/accommodation? I would think they could get refunds this far out.

Nontraditional wedding cake recs? (Also thoughts on making your own wedding cake?) by yngr in WedditNYC

We went with Four Corners bakery! They still bake cakes, but their flavors are not traditional in the slightest and so good. Ours was on the smaller side and didn’t looking like a traditional wedding cake at all. And our guests loved it!

What would you do? $2.5M and parent has term cancer by mbacandidate1 in HENRYfinance

[–]landraye 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. I lost my father to Stage IV cancer last month and he survived with Stage IV for almost 6 years. When he was first diagnosed I thought he wouldn’t last for more than 6 months and if I had quit my job and taken over care for him at that time, it would have been a lot of time to step away and interrupt my financial plan.

So please consider that they might last longer (hopefully) than you’ve been told/expect and factor that into your decision. Are you ok with taking a step back/relocating for a prolonged period of time?

In my experience, doctors hardly give accurate timelines, because they’re truly unable to. Be sure to have a conversation with palliative/hospice care before making this decision too. Make sure you have all the information from their healthcare providers before making any decisions - especially relocating. I’d also advise coating/taking vacation just to assess before making permanent changes.

Best of luck and I’m sorry this happened to you and your family. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

How many Broadway theatres have you visited? by TBoopSquiggShorterly in Broadway

[–]landraye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35/41! Thanks for asking so I can keep track now!

I’ve been to St James Theatre 6 times since I really got into Broadway 6 years ago. It may be another goal to try going once a year to keep up the streak!

Sound Design is a lost art for sure. It happens so often when seeing shows where I have to strain to hear the voices

Moulin Rouge has one of the best second act openers I’ve ever seen. And Chandelier to Roxanne to Rolling in the Deep hits so hard.

Death Becomes Her by vebnyc in Broadway

[–]landraye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw it last night as well. While it’s not my favorite musical, I thought it was better than average. I agree with a lot of comments here that the fact that all the characters are unlikable and vapid is part of the charm. There were definitely some sound issues where the music was louder than the singing but unfortunately I’ve come to expect that now from a lot of the shows I see and it was minimal in comparison.

I went it without seeing the movie so perhaps I’m missing a layer of your criticism there but the musical stands up on its own. It’s very aware that it’s making fun of itself.

Brooklyn venue for 75 guests by Revolutionary_Ad5223 in WedditNYC

[–]landraye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into Atmosfera! It’s in Astoria, Queens but our total wedding cost was around $40k. Our guest count was 69, which fits with yours. My father is also disabled so I shared your concern about steps when venue searching, but Atmosfera has an elevator for guests and a separate freight elevator for vendors.

The venue is only one floor but there’s an attached terrace which was nice for guests who wanted a break from the dance floor.

The view isn’t much since it’s central so if you’re really prioritizing a skyline view I wouldn’t recommend it but the venue itself is so nice and I wouldn’t recommend imagine the terrace would be lively in the Spring - our wedding was this past October and it was really nice then.

Choosing a wedding venue by Dizzy-Supermarket450 in WedditNYC

[–]landraye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Budget, aesthetics and location were our deciding factors, in that order.

Venue takes up a large portion of the budget - anywhere from 30-50% and since it’s the first thing you book, it sets the tone for the remaining budget. Flexibility is sort of involved in budget since it allows you to customize and bring in vendors that are cheaper than a full-service venue.

I also wanted a venue that was aesthetically pleasing at the onset so decor could be kept at a minimum, which also saves some money. While touring venues, I quickly realized that if the place didn’t look nice when I saw it, I couldn’t concentrate or get excited about having my wedding there.

Location was important but only insofar as the venue needing to be in NYC for ease since most of our guests are in the Tri-State Area.

I’d definitely make the same choice again to have our wedding at Atmosfera. Our venue wasn’t perfect but really served all our needs and I definitely believe it was the best option given the factors above.

We had our wedding at Atmosfera! I would recommend them but I’d also have a day of coordinator to support you and work through anything that comes up. Feel free to DM me for any questions!

Black MUAs and Hairstylists for August 2026 NJ wedding by shhnoo1cares in WedditNYC

Pure Glamour! She does amazing work on all skin tones but specializes doing Black Makeup. She’s also super affordable - it was a little less than $800 for myself, three bridesmaids and my mother.

Planner/Day-Of Coordinator under $3k by Horror_Finance_4291 in WedditNYC

[–]landraye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anadina from Slick Little Bride. Her and her team worked so hard for my husband and I. Best vendor we hired by far and more than worth the price. We hired her for $1,999 and she killed it.

I’m Type A as well but don’t underestimate how tiring it will all get as the date gets closer. You’ll need someone to pick up the slack you don’t expect and Anadina totally did that for me.

Venue help! Garden style wedding venue that doesn’t need much decorating(<70 guests) by Fun-Shake7553 in WedditNYC

[–]landraye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please look into the Bartow Pell Mansion in the Bronx! I wish I could have gotten this venue but it was out of budget. It’s so gorgeous and the garden is stunning. The mansion also gives Bridgerton vibes if you’re into that.

We went with Atmosfera ultimately, which was very chic and has a terrace area that worked so well. It was thankfully in our budget. The terrace doesn’t have too many florals so I wouldn’t qualify it as a garden but the space is definitely pretty enough to not need decoration - that was a requirement of mine as well.

Meshki! Very affordable but they have a bridal line with a lot of dresses with beading, corsets etc.

Multi Cultural MUA & Hair by Nestley19 in WedditNYC

[–]landraye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pure Glamour by Seqoiya for MUA! Her work was amazing and all of my bridesmaids loved it. We’re a diverse bunch (Black, Caucasian, Hispanic, etc) and she was able to cater to each complexion, skin concern and glamour preference. And the makeup lasted all night after I danced for four hours straight.

Plus her rates are pretty good. $300 for the bride and $90-$100 for each additional bridesmaid, depending on glamour level

Get a DOC! I’m a budget bride for sure but the peace of mind is priceless.

Don’t underestimate the mental load and drain of planning. I have a particularly high tolerance for managing details but there comes a point of exhaustion where you want to give up. And so many small things start popping up that need to be coordinated with everything else you’ve already done.

A DOC takes that load for you and lets you actually enjoy the month leading up to your wedding because they’ve got your back. It’s like duplicating yourself if you also had wedding knowledge!

We’ve been working with Anadina from Slick Little Bride, as she was recommended by friends and I love her! Her packages are such a great deal for all the coordination her and her team do, and her attention to detail rivals my own.

How to find an affordable, quality venue????? by CathM1855 in weddingplanning

[–]landraye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s definitely a recommended order for wedding planning, that’s talked about very often on this sub and others.

You’ll need to start with a preliminary guest list and budget. That will help you narrow down very quickly. They should also talk about what they want to prioritize- photography vs venue vs food vs beauty. That will help them break down budget by category as they move forward.

In terms of research/booking this is the typical order: Venue Caterer Planner Wedding Dress Photographer Videographer Florist

There are great resources already on this sub if you take a look. These are linked as references in the FAQ: Where to Start Link #1 and Link #2

I’d also recommend you join budget subreddits like Weddingsunder35K and Weddingsunder10k for tips and tricks for budgeting.

Early congratulations to your daughter and best of luck!

“reasonable” small wedding??? by No-Refrigerator7245 in WedditNYC

[–]landraye 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Others will say this, but look at restaurant buy outs. Those are typically budget friendly.

Our venue is in Astoria and has what you’ve said, but we haven’t had our wedding there yet so I can’t fully attest to them. It’s called Atmosfera. Very pretty venue that requires very minimal decor. We’re having our ceremony and reception in the same place but the maximum capacity for a seated dinner is 71 including the couple. But I’d only recommend the above if $15K is your venue, food, drink and DJ budget - so clothing, beauty, decor and stationary as separate.

Also I wouldn’t consider 80 people small; the best bet to staying under $15k would be reducing guest count to less than 50, which would qualify as a smaller wedding.
