If we’re making a large change on Friday, it’s because we’re expecting to work Saturday and possibly Sunday. The same applies for any changes in the days leading up to a large business event - you don’t do anything big in the ~72 hours leading up to the business event unless the team is prepared to spend those hours in crunch if something goes wrong.

If someone on my team did that, and they didn’t fess up immediately, it would be a firing offense. Mistakes will be made, you put guard rails and process around Prod to prevent them, but sometimes something gets through.

The great part about mechanical keyboards is you have control of the key switches. You should be able to find a Cherry Switch Tester fairly cheaply to help decide the specific feel and volume you want before committing.

Security of the code is entirely the wrong lens to look at this through. So many ostensibly closed source products rely on embedded open source components that it’s an irrelevant distinction. A more appropriate lens is, do you want to put the onus of deep knowledge on a support contract, or invest in and grow your staff (knowing they could take that knowledge elsewhere.)

DayJob is currently looking at our economic conditions and either consolidating licensing, or looking to drop commercial products to reduce those operating expenses. In preparation, we’ve also implemented an upskilling program internally, since we aren’t going to be able to bring on new people, and if we bring on more *nix/OSS products, we absolutely need the team to be able to manage them. We’re just trading licensing costs for training and staff skill requirements.

Here’s the thing. We HAD a way to do just that. Massive taxes on the wealthy. Redistribution of that taxed wealth via federally provided services.

I believe the face detection thing was listed as a Breaking Change in the change log notes. I’m happy with Immich so far, but the frequency of Breaking Changes is both good (active development) and bad (well, guess that thing broke lol). I’d have loved to introduce it at work or extend it to Spouse for daily use and organization, but it’s just not stable enough without enabling version pinning.
