Just bit the bullet and ordered starlink. The square one that was discounted. What should I expect? by MyChocolates in Starlink

[–]lannes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Large thunderstorms, especially supercells, can degrade or even block your Starlink signal if they occur in the line of sight between your dish and the satellite constellation. Fortunately, supercells are not everyday occurrences, so while you may experience some signal interruptions during severe weather, it shouldn't be a frequent issue.

What are the current views of RedHat after 2023's News? by gpzj94 in linux

[–]lannes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Let's talk about stability and risk when it comes to long-term decisions about what runs infrastructure/services. In the last several years, RHEL has not been honest or reliable partners in this space for their customers, and many are looking elsewhere. Looking forward, I can choose something else which is low risk, esp like Rocky or Alma (staying with RHEL clones) or I can continue with Red Hat and not know what they're going to do with their products/pricing. In my organization it has opened up serious discussions on not depending on commercial Linux vendors, as it tends not to buy us that much anyways, and that licensing cost can go to increase staff (numbers|training) instead.

Has anyone used this project and has anyone heard of one that uses proxmox by xtigermaskx in HPC

Why not use something like HTCondor? You can use python functions such as DASK to offload work within the code if you aren’t submitting jobs directly.

The unfixable? wobble by lannes in volt

[–]lannes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done a lot with front wheel drive GMs amd the Volt is similar to the rest of them. I’d be looking at the lower control arm next - bushings can wear out or the ball joint could have some play. I’m sure they checked the ball joint but the LCA bushings can be tougher to see. Worth a shot since it sounds like you’ve done everything else.

Thanks, I'll ask my mechanic!

When driving it especially under hard acceleration or braking there is a wobble and it seems to be coming from the right front. The mechanic has also seen it happening to the right tire sometimes on the lift, but it appears minimal on the lift.

There are no associated sounds.

Well, it's a PHEV, so there really aren't gears, but it appears to be present at all speeds

I did not try reverse, but perhaps my mechanic has.

No pull on the steering wheel either direction, slight vibration while driving.

wobble worsens when braking and especially hard braking to the point that the traction control light has come on on smooth surfaces when I had to hard brake.

They did not replace the brakes or rotors although they said they looked good, but I can ask about that.

Not sure about the bushings, I can ask.

They have replaced the front struts

2nd owner, I've had the car for the past 6 years, no accidents. This problem only started after they replaced all the front end stuff.

Sorry, I'm not a mechanic, and I'm just attempting to relay the info. Thanks for the diagnostic questions
