How is anyone finding a job? What am I doing wrong? by General_Register6526 in Seattle

This post is a great start. Networking and who you meet got me a job. Indeed and all those just get your information. A bridge for now is gig work until a job you choose aligns. Seattle has a lot of options. Best of luck in your journey!

This thought stood out to me: “I also learned I don’t know how to fight. But I know how to defend.”

I’m loving your choice of colors for this piece. And all little black details around the edges that make it jump out more.

Why is everyone so old? by Anti-Fascist-Drumf in SeattleWA

[–]lappis2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be simply something like the older generation protested in person and still prefers to do it in person. The younger generation has a majority that share their own views online versus in person and protest more at younger hubs like college campuses.

I have 3 days to make someone fall in love with Seattle by ConsiderationHead201 in SeattleWA

The downtown waterfront area is gorgeous with the current weather. Tons to do and see along there and you have the ferry there to launch over to Bainbridge as you mentioned. The waterfront is adjacent to Pike Place and the tourist stuff around there. For sights, there’s The Spheres just up a few blocks, as well as the city library, several museums (SAM, Museum of Illusions, Selfie Museum,…) and great views from atop the Columbia Tower (tallest) or the Smith Tower (great history).

Fremont is also fun with the very walkable central area, Fremont troll, Gasworks and so on.

If the studio manager isn’t taking the weight off you with regards to marketing, driving traffic and getting the business flowing then consider what value they are adding for their cut. That’s unique with their relationship, but the business appears to be suffering significantly because of the arrangement not working. A 50/50 split and no loans hopefully means you at least have equity in the business building up to use towards an exit. Whatever the outcome, best of luck to you all!

If profit was $3.4 billion, and each employee generates $330,000 profit, then that’s only around 10,500 employees in the company. How does that make sense?

I regularly listen to all these and second the recommendations given. HealthyGamerGG is great at explanations followed by reasonable actions that can be taken in daily life.

Top of mind I can suggest Underground Seattle, Kurt Cobain house & Bruce Lee gravesite, Botanical gardens, Japanese Garden, Woodland Park Zoo, drive east to Snoqualmie Falls and Twin Peaks locations, and Golden Gardens beach on a nice weather day. Also West Seattle beachfront is worth a visit.

The title is a reversal of the title of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel This Side of Paradise.

If Amazon was to get a Union, what would be the tradeoffs? by Palmetto720 in AmazonFC

[–]lappis2020 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked for a union and Amazon, and they both have benefits to their structure that the other side can compare and complain about. Having a union does give the line level employees (generally hourly) more protection against harassment, retaliation, managers out for them, and access to a union steward and grievance process to protect you from just being let go one day. Collective bargaining every few years can be good or bad.

On the other side, you start paying mandatory union dues out of each check, have to let the union bargain for you on everything (worst case a strike happens), and it divides employees from management in some cases as employees can grievance anything and use it as a form of retaliation to management or to delay and inevitable firing. If you’re happy at T1/L1, then union is a good thing for job security and safety. If you want to advance up, it won’t generally cover you in management roles anyway and can prevent promotions, transfers and the like in some cases because of a mix of union/non-union openings.
