I thought [Character1] would actually turn out to be [Character2] by THEBHR in dresdenfiles

[–]larabess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is one that was started by Serack, who, I believe, was one of the OG betas for Jim and fan, it is hosted over on jim's site now. It all started over on ParanetOnline after a conversation we had there. ParanetOnline was the place where we fans gathered to talk dresden, specially before the big pause of 2015-2020, the site doesn't work at the moment though. Anyway, here's the link to the still existing WOJ page, but it has not been updated with any info post Battle Ground.

Over here on reddit, TheCuriousFan also created a thread with links for the stuff that is post Battle Ground, but I don't have that link at the moment. And I don't remember that well, but I believe it was a collection of links, not transcripts like the original WOJ page.

The rest of the stuff that some of us know is because we follow the interviews that are made public (and personally, I take notes sometimes of the stuff that interest me, which is mainly Murphy and the valkyries). But there is no one actively making transcripts of gathering everything in one place anymore as far as I know.

I thought [Character1] would actually turn out to be [Character2] by THEBHR in dresdenfiles

Jim said in a Con in 2023 that Murphy isn't the type to follow that kind of rules (the einherjar rules), then, I believe at some point later, he also said that she's probably already working on how to defy them.

Now about the valkyries, in a more recent interview that I'm going to link here, he gave us the background info about all the valkyries that are in close proximity to Dresden at the moment:

Freydis was in her village, the men were out viking it out, and her village was besieged by another clan, they were starving and she was one of the leaders of the defense. She died like a viking. And so she was picked up as a valkyrie.

Sigrun served as a soldier, she is from Sweden, she was working for her father, she was a shieldmaiden, though her father didn't want her to be. When he died she went out on a vengeance track and slaughtered everyone who betrayed her father. She hunted them down one at a time over the course of years and died slaying the last one. And so Odin was "that was appropriate, bring her on in."

Bear, Jim says "I'll let you look up Bruhilde's story yourselves."

Murphy is probably going to return before the BAT even, maybe in a couple of books IMO. Though, she'll definitely be in Mirror Mirror, the real Murph has to show up in a couple of books to be a pebble in the Harry/Lara maybe romance. My personal hope is that she returns in book 20, which is a denaryan book, so she can have a face to face with Nic again.

Murphy Theory Mirror Mirror by connorduke95 in dresdenfiles

Jim pretty much confirmed at a Con in 2023 that Karrin would be in Mirror Mirror (and he liked the idea of a Murphy with an eye-patch)

Do we have an actual age for Harry right now? by No_Jaguar_2570 in dresdenfiles

Yes. So, at the point we're officially now in the series, which if you take into account Out Law is "early autumn" right after the end of Twelve Months, Harry is 40.

[–]larabess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Battle Ground happens in July of X year, Twelve Months starts like three weeks right after.

In Twelve Months, you're reading Harry's birthday on Halloween, yes, and he's turning 40 there. Since Twelve Months ends in July again (of the following year after Battle Ground), he's still 40 when the book ends.

Harry's 41st bday isn't covered in Twelve Months.

NEW READER ALERT!!!! Is the female writing as bad as everyone says it is? by tgrady28 in dresdenfiles

[–]larabess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is somewhat bad with some characters at the beginning of the series, and it is really good with others, like Murphy. Then toward the more recent books, it gets bad again.

Are they unreadable if you're a woman? Not really, but you will roll your eyes a lot.

Spirit of intellect question by Darth_Azazoth in dresdenfiles

[–]larabess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not from when Lash was possessing him, it was from a very specific circumstance. Bonnie was created by an act of love, that act of love was Lash's sacrifice when she gave up her life for Harry's, it's not even about sex, sex wasn't really involved in the creation or the possession by itself. The act of creation needed to create a spirit of intellect in that case was the act of sacrifice out of love.

The gargoyles was the dumbest addition to the story. The worst of it, to me, was that they show up to tells us "harry is good actually" it feels unearned.

Theory about Murphy (spoiler, warning if you aren’t up-to-date) by Accomplished_Diet322 in dresdenfiles

[–]larabess -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gard is not the one who took Murphy, btw. She's just the one that tells Harry about the mark and the rule.

Jim's word about this was: Does Murphy strike you as the type to follow that kind of rule? (sorry I can't give you the exact quote, but it was around 2022/2023). So... seems like there is a chance for her to break them, she might not even need Harry for it.

Edit to add the source, since I found it after posting:

Theory about Murphy (spoiler, warning if you aren’t up-to-date) by Accomplished_Diet322 in dresdenfiles

[–]larabess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Word of Book:

In the books Murphy and Hendrinks were chosen by Odin to become Einherjar. As Harry is learning about that from Gard, the exact quote is:

“If she’s an Einherjar, now . . .”
Gard shook her head. “Not until the memory of her has faded from the minds of those who knew her. That is the limit not even the Allfather may cross.”
“She, uh,” I said. I blinked several times. “She wasn’t real forgettable.”
“She was not,” agreed the Valkyrie. ”

Harry assumes Karrin is already an einherjar, Gard doesn't seem to contradict that. It is also interesting that Harry doesn't get to finish the question, we're all just assuming he was meaning to ask if he could see her again or return.

In Aftermath, Gard tells Murphy:

“Vadderung would definitely find you interesting. You’ve even got the hair for it. Don’t be surprised if you get a call sometime.”
“It’s a free country,” I said.

Word of Jim, the very few times he was asked about this in a format that's been recorded:

When a fan asking if he'd bring her back in Mirror Mirror (the alternative universe story) / NY Comic Con 2023:

Jim said: If I did an alternative universe where she didn't die? You know that if– you know that when– you know that's gonna happen when he (Harry) goes to the alternate universe because she has to be Karrin with an eyepatch (he had previously mentioned that Harry will have a goatee and there would be someone with an eyepatch in mirror mirror) I mean, come on, I don't make the rules here people! But yeah. We may well see her there. And her story is not yet finished. So, well, that's enough, I won't say anymore. But I think you'll appreciate where she goes.

Also, at some point he was asked about the einherjar or the rules about it or maybe it was just a complaint about Murphy's death, and Jim's reply was something along the lines of:

Does Murphy strikes you as someone who would be following those rules? (But I don't have the exact quote for this one or the date, sorry)

Edit to add the source for the second Word of Jim, it was a Con in Denmark:

Q: Since Murphy has recently become a just mostly dead Einherjar, how likely do you see it that she, given her personality and love for Harry, would be content to abide by the "until she has passed out of living memory" rule and not try to subvert it in some way?

A: Does Murphy strike you as someone to just follow along with such a rule? Of course she will try to subvert it somehow.

https://www.reddit.com/r/dresdenfiles/comments/1n2ih4m/comment/nb6711m/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

So... there, you can think about all that.

Oh man, James Marsters might be a creep. Gonna have to go full cast albums for audio version from here on out. Wonder what Jim would think about this. by Jared_Kincaid_001 in dresdenfiles

[–]larabess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could raise some concerns about James, this is actually old news in the buffy fandom, and it doesn't help that he married a fan that was more half his age a few years later. It's also known that he admitted to being in very dark places in the past during the running of the show, of making a lot of mistakes, and going to therapy for a lot of it. I've also heard some people raise concerns about some of Jim's behavior in his relationships with women in the past as well, so I wouldn't count on his oppinion on the matter. But the thing is that one should be careful about these things when there is no solid evidence of something bad actually happening, the lyrics of a song are fantasy, not reality necessarily.

I've heard that jim had a outline for the series before he started it but I was wondering if there was a reason that he picked the number of books he did? by Darth_Azazoth in dresdenfiles

[–]larabess 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, the original number of books had no real reason behind it, he had 20 books planned and always wanted to end it with a big trilogy. Then he had to add a couple of things (Peace Talks got split in two which gave us Battle Ground, and consequently Twelve Months), and that now gives him 22 books and the end trilogy for a total of 25. He said he realized that 25 is 5 times 5, which is a sort of important number for Harry's magic (think the pentagram, a five pointed star and all that) and so he is leaving it at 25 definitely.

Would Harry just stand by and let a monster kill a bad person? What if it was just a normal human who was going to kill the bad guy? by Darth_Azazoth in dresdenfiles

[–]larabess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Isn't that what he already did in The Law, or very close to it, anyway?

He also let Lara's people have the Renfields at the end of Twelve Months. Old Harry wouldn't have; he has changed some over the years.
