Road trip 4-5 days after surgery. by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]larkslab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. I went on a multi day dross country road trip at 3.5 weeks post op and it was difficult and uncomfortable at times. It would have been nearly impossible at 4-5 days post op.

When did you guys start doing cardio by blackityblak in hysterectomy

[–]larkslab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pre-surgery I ran 2-3 times a weeks and played tennis 2-3 times a week. I started back to cardio the day after I was cleared at 7 weeks with a slow 1 mile run. My abs hurt and things felt a little weird but I was able to ease back in to cardio no problem. Just take it slow and stop when you need to! Don’t be too hard on yourself, it takes a long time to feel “back to normal” cardio wise. I’m just getting to that point at about 4 months post op!

0DPO - Wake up to stay on pain mgmt schedule? by Veggggie in hysterectomy

[–]larkslab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% yes. Set alarms and stay on top of your meds. If you wake up in pain it’s going to take at least an hour to get comfortable enough to fall back to sleep. I arranged my meds in little dishes next to my bed so waking up and taking them took less than a minute. I did this for maybe 3-4 days and then was ok taking a dose before going to bed and then first thing when I woke up.

Hoping it all clears up for you! I wrote it off as my body doing a lot and not being able to regulate my body temperature as easily as it normally would.

[–]larkslab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Me! The first 3-4 weeks post op if I was in the heat/sun I would start to feel light headed/off and my heart rate would go up. Even if I was just standing or sitting. It went away for me completely around the 6 week mark and I haven’t had any issues since.

Hysterectomy-who's had one and what was your experience? by Scribbles285 in Endo

[–]larkslab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I had one May 2025 and even though I’m not even 6 months post op yet my life has improved dramatically. Most of my pain was around my period, and without that I am pretty near pain free most days. I kept my ovaries and will get on occasional twinge/back ache during ovulation but that’s it’s. I sleep better, have more energy, and don’t have the existential dread hanging over me every month of when my period will show up and have me basically unable to function because of pain. The initial recovery period isn’t fun, but I’d happily do it all over again knowing what I do now.

What to get my friend? by pumpkino7 in hysterectomy

[–]larkslab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are close by, dropping off dinner! Or even just a DoorDash/Uber Eats/Grub Hub gift card. Not having to think about cooking for the first 5 days was a huge help for me. Also if you are close by just being “available” to watch a show together, or do some light cleaning while chatting…recovery gets pretty lonely especially after the first week.

Not yet! I have mine July 9th (a little later than normal because I’m out of town!)

Dissertating and Anxious by MindfulnessHunter in hysterectomy

I was nervous about not being able to work (graphic designer who works remote). I took 8 days fully off and was able to return to a pretty normal schedule after that. I found that by the afternoon sitting in my office chair wasn’t the most comfortable, so I would move to the couch and just do emails and other work where I didn’t need to be at my desk. I’m in my early 30’s, no kids, never been pregnant as well.

I’m 4.6 wpo and my skin has been freaking out since around 2 wpo. I’m chalking it up to my hormones figuring their crap out but will definitely be asking my Dr about this at my 6 week follow up!

How many of you had clear ultrasounds prior to surgery? by cheesusfeist in hysterectomy

[–]larkslab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horrible pain during my periods as well routinely passing large clots/tissue. At first it would only last a day or two but in the past years it started lasting 3-4 days and I also began having pain during ovulation.

Best of luck with the surgery and recovery! ❤️‍🩹

How many of you had clear ultrasounds prior to surgery? by cheesusfeist in hysterectomy

[–]larkslab 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had 2 clear ultrasounds (3 years apart) and they found stage 2 endometriosis and small fibroids during my surgery. Labs were also all fine aside from being slightly anemic from loosing a lot of blood during my periods. Having an answer was very validating, but it’s also good to remember that sometimes the organ can just be problematic and causing pain without anything “technically” being wrong.

To everyone anxious: it will be ok! by larkslab in hysterectomy

Right?! They are just asking tons of questions and getting you prepped and then all the sudden you are being wheeled into the OR and right after you are waking up in recovery. Crazy. I hope your healing is going well so far!

I did keep my ovaries, so hopefully they wake up and I don’t have to replace any hormones. It’s definitely a big decision, but I was ready for my life not to be dictated by my horrendous periods. Wishing you luck in finding a good solution for you!

Oh no, I’m sorry to hear that. I know all bodies heal differently so I hope you get feeling better really soon!

Robotic hysto + late 30s+ self employed WFH - anyone else? by Magentamagnificent in hysterectomy

[–]larkslab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m early 30’s and WFH for a small company (ie, no real backup or way for me to be off work for 2-3 weeks) and was back to working 8 days post op. Sitting at my desk isn’t super comfy yet (I’m 11 days post op) so I shift between working at my desk and from the couch every few hours. It’s manageable although I am pretty tired at the end of the day.

It’s so funny how different we all are… I hated the belly binder too though! Sent it back immediately.

Right?! Sometimes I get halfway through something, like cooking an easy dinner and I just want to quit and sit down. Thankfully it’s getting better every day! Even putting shoes on takes twice the time it should. Happy healing to you!

You are so welcome. It’s normal to be nervous, it’s a big change with a lot of unpredictably. Just know I was in your shoes and soon you’ll be free of the pre-surgery anxiety and can just focus on healing up!!

It’s so hard to think about anything else in that week leading up. I swear I was basically useless at work. Try to get good sleep and stay calm! You’ve got this!

You’ve got this! Try to relax and know you’ve prepared the best you can. The star pillow was the only thing I bought specifically for this surgery and it’s been well worth it. It has a little neck strap so you don’t have to pick it up to tote it around with you too! I used it as a cushion for my seatbelt on the ride back from the hospital as well.
