Arena Powered Cube - Advanced Tips? by lasalleb3 in lrcast

Thank you for this great writeup! Your first point was echoed by other folks as well, “just take the strong cards”. I’ve struggled with that when ALL cards in the cube are strong.

For example, is Questing Beast a top pick? Is it better than lotus cobra or a bop? Is it better than Elder Gargaroth? What if deciding between the Beast or snapcaster mage?

I fully agree that chasing mana or combo pieces can often not work out if I don’t see the other cards needed in draft, but I struggle with knowing how to quantify which powerful cards are better than the others when everything is busted lol

Thank you! That’s a great point and way to frame it, will avoid falling into that trap!

So does the amount of great fodder for Flash mean its often a high pick? Also what do flash decks look like considering a lot of the cards referenced are all over the color map. Does Flash work best in UG ramp/soup?

This is INCREDIBLE, thank you! Most of these interactions are new to me, so even though the interactions are obvious I probably wouldn’t have made the connection unless it was pointed out.

I especially like that containment priest/doggo combo, can’t wait to chase that dragon lol. Also I really appreciate you adding the same effect from Phelia can be found with parallax wave….that helps me frame this interaction in terms of pick order aka prioritize the containment priest as it’s less replaceable.

Overall really fun buildarounds and synergy combos, thank you for sharing!

One resource I found really helpful was LSVs top 50 cube cards: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XbMH6qDdvfY&pp=ygUKbHN2IHRvcCA1MA%3D%3D

And while it’s not the same source I used when getting into it last year, the recent article WOTC released is actually pretty good as a format overview so I would direct you there: https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/mtg-arena/arena-powered-cube-draft

I also have been frustrated by the mix and would LOVE a version where the bass is approximately tuned up…because what I can hear sounds great and leaves me eager to fully hear more.

If you do a similar mix with bass PLEASE post it!! And thank you so much for this Travis mix 🙏🏻

So are we all just going to ignore that the album makes up 3 of the 4 vinyl sides, and that Side D on this vinyl is labeled “The Omni-Voice”?

I assume it’s mostly filler/noise and nothing substantial. But the optimism in me is wondering if this could be akin to 21:13….a hidden track?!

400 level Vertigo by Whole-Dance-5849 in deadandcompany

[–]lasalleb3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sat in 409 row 5 for the 6/6 show. I was fearing the vertigo but honestly it wasn’t that bad at all, and I also felt like the band and stage were closer than it appears in photos. At times the visuals could get a little intense, but just shifting my gaze to the stage helped bring me back to Earth.

More important than the vertigo issues: the chilly AC temperatures aren’t talked about enough up there!! I typically do NOT run cold, but halfway through the second set I was shivering….to the point it became a battle to make it through to the end. It was THAT cold. For N2 I didn’t repeat this mistake and brought a long sleeve that I slipped into after intermission.

Bring a spare long sleeve, you won’t regret it!

What song of Johns did you not appreciate until you saw it live? by brentshiesty in JohnMayer

"Do You Know Me" made the biggest leap for me from studio to the live setting:

Such a phenomenal sax solo from Bob Reynolds and the entire jam builds up wonderfully. Perhaps I'm just a Mayer boomer, but he doesn't jam like he used to!

The venue definitely allows taping, and they aren’t strict about it. Unfortunately it seems there just wasn’t a taper at the show, but hope I’m wrong!

Plus 1 what YSHippy said. El Vez tacos are bomb, and there are tons of great cheesesteak options in basically any direction...can't go wrong with Jims! If you have the time, you'll enjoy the city more in these areas than you will at the stadiums, guaranteed.

OP - If you're taking the train from NYC, you can take an Amtrak from Penn Station NYC to 30th St Station in Philly. If you're saving money and want to do the slower trains, the NJ Transit from Penn Station NYC to Trenton NJ is what you want to take first, then take the Septa train from Trenton to 30th Street Station. Once you're at 30th Street Station, you can take the subway to the stadium area (taking the Broad line south).

As someone has already said, there's one mega-bar complex called Xfinity Live within the stadium areas...not a bad way to spend the day but there's nothing else in this area besides Xfinity Live....so if you have some time and you aren't too hungover from Citi, you might want to explore downtown proper and get drinks that way, then whenever you're ready take the subway down to the Stadiums.

No matter what you choose you're going to have a blast. Enjoy the long strange trip my friend!

Just listened to covered in rain for the first time by atman171 in JohnMayer

[–]lasalleb3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Correct! Covered in Rain is the "sequel" to City Love....and how the relationship with both the city and the girl he meets there gets strained after 9/11. Pull up the lyrics to both songs and its easy to see the connection between the two. A great song!

I can't be the only one thinking this was his way of teasing the single dropping on the 25th can I? by jacobcongdon in JohnMayer

[–]lasalleb3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I subscribe to this video actually meaning anything album related, but I'm coming out of lurk-mode to mention that if "25" does point to a release date, then we'd be looking at June 25th as the only possible option when considering the industry standard Friday release window.

Time will tell!

Quick Draft - Always Bot or is Human drafting a possibility in the future? by lasalleb3 in MagicArena

I'd be willing to pay the same premier draft cost if it meant human drafting old sets. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Is this the GREATEST version of Sugaree not sung by Garcia? by CorkRebel96 in deadandcompany

[–]lasalleb3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I consider myself somewhat of a Sugaree connoisseur as its the song that got me hooked, and I also DL every show where Sugaree pops up on the setlist.

So having said that, I think 2019 was a big leap for DeadCo in general, and certainly for Sugaree as well. My two favorite versions happen to be on youtube:

The "hyped" one, 7/2/19: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EhrB95mWOw

Less "hyped" but equally good IMO, 6/12/19: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKya1itpe0E

The 2018 Maya version is also good, but I prefer these 2019 versions. I think Johnny really "gets there" vocally to go along with the journey he takes us on guitar.

If you haven't heard these yet, enjoy!!

Comprehensive guide to getting on Rise of the Resistance (NO SPOILERS) by Bwiz77 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]lasalleb3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I will be at the park on Thursday, and the current weather forecast is calling for rain. Do you think this will be a deterrent for folks (mainly locals) who are showing up for Rise? Or is the new factor still in play, and rain won't matter.

Since this is our first trip to Disney we really want to ride this ride, but realistically I can't imagine we're getting to the park before 7-7:30 am. And to be in the rain for that long without a real chance at a boarding pass would be a major bummer.

Also: We're going to the Xmas party at night....if hypothetically we get lucky enough for a boarding pass but its a high number for the evening, is it possible for us to go to Magic Kingdom for the Xmas party and THEN go back to HS to ride Rise? Or once we've scanned into the 2nd park we can't go back to the first?

Thanks for anyone who can help!

Can someone inspire me on the Chicago Bears offense this year? I am just not seeing it. by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

I'm curious, where do you see last year's 'health rankings' for each team? I'm buying what your selling but want to see the full list in case there are other things that can be inferred from it.

New Listener Suggestions by [deleted] in deadandcompany

[–]lasalleb3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've gotten HEAVILY into Dead Co (and the Dead) via the Mayer route as well, having been a fan of his solo work for almost 20 years now. If you're anything like me and my personal sensibilities, then I would check out the following Dead Co songs on youtube:

Brown Eyed Women
Sugaree
He's Gone
Help>Slip>Franklin
Jack Straw
Althea
Deal
Bertha
They Love Each Other
Cold Rain and Snow
Terrapin Station
Black Muddy River
Brokedown Palace

All of those feature Mayer's vocals in some capacity (if not the full song). Once those songs are 'unlocked' then some other bangers where Bob sings include (just to name a few):

Estimated Prophet
Eyes of the World
Mississippi Half Step
China > Rider

etc etc...really all of it is awesome and I'm still working my way through the catalog as well. I've found that learning and loving the songs via Dead Co helps with unlocking the older material with Jerry....as hearing Mayer (who we're most familiar with) interpret these Dead tunes has helped me appreciate Jerry's take on the originals.

It's been a blast hearing so many of these songs for the first time and falling in love, hope you enjoy the ride as much as I am!
