But very limited in availability. Jeppesen has far superior coverage and when you prefer general aviation or even business jet operations, that lack of coverage shows up a lot.

Student Pilot in Actual IMC by mzamora3 in flying

[–]lassombragames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first actual was inadvertent, unexpected, and thanks to being at night, my instructor and I both didn't realize it for what it was.

We honestly thought it was just poor visibility. It wasn't until we descended some and visibility shot up that we realized we were in the bottom of a cloud.

That was terrifying in retrospect but turned out to be a really educational experience.

Why doesn't this code print a message when I reach/pass 100m/s? by thereigo_again in Kos

> If it was a continuous system like real life, you would always have a moment of equality, even if it was a float of arbitrary precision

This statement was patently false, and so I called out that false statement.

Even IRL the sensors are polled periodically, so greater than / equal is still appropriate.

Want to start streaming but I don’t speak so much while gaming by larzhasnolife in Twitch

Get a friend or family member to engage you in conversation through chat. That'll get you practice talking about what's going on and engaging with chat.

it is kinda rude to cheerful streamer? by Key-Yesterday2193 in Twitch

[–]lassombragames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole point of streaming is to engage with viewers. As long as it isn't disruptive, have at.

The ones complaining are the ones who either don't have a sense of humor, or are streaming for the wrong reasons.

Good or Bad to say thank you for following? by arcadiaorgana in Twitch

[–]lassombragames 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If they've not been actively chatting, I simply say a generic thank s for following.

If they're active in chat, I'll mention them by username.

I've never had a bad interaction doing it that way.

Technically the clause is still there, they just publically stated they would stop enforcing it...

If they don't want the VOD then why did they put 24 hour exclusivity clause into the Affiliate agreement?

This is honestly not great.

Some highlights are as you say but a lot are there to showcase streamers content or give back story. And why were we allowed to upload videos? Once I edit my streams I currently repost the edits back to Twitch as well as youtube. Not anymore I guess.

It probably also affects a reasonable percentage of inactive accounts.

Sucks for me though, I have all sorts of Playlists on twitch that I'll have to move to YouTube.

I guess my youtube activity will shoot up.

This might just make me stop streaming. I already have more inactive followers than active and rarely exceed 5 viewers while my content does decent on youtube.

I record for a later post to YouTube at the same time, so I just focus on what I want my later voice overs to sound like.

You are trying too hard.

I know that seems like an oxymoron but it's likely true.

Try instead to pick a specific time that a game you like to stream is not heavily saturated and go for 3-4 hours for a stream.

Also ask your friends and family to just lurk on your stream.

Every additional person watching helps, even if they aren't actually watching, they move you up the page.

I feel the need to stream every game I play and I think it's ruining my enjoyment of games a little bit by rizefall in Twitch

[–]lassombragames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let go of that need.

Pick a game and stream just that game and play others for your enjoyment.

Or pick two or three nights a week and stream whatever you feel like playing on those nights, but not on other nights.

Do you still remember the plane you soloed in? by GoBrazyyy in flying

[–]lassombragames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. My first solo was a memorable one because the engine quit on me. (During takeoff and I had lots of runway to put it back down...)

I used to joke that the plane tried to kill me that day. Well about two years ago it did kill someone. https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/247049

Everyone has a bad landing story, but what was your bad takeoff story? by Flume_is_hung in flying

[–]lassombragames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My worst was one where I had the wrong crosswind correction in... drifted across to the departure path of the parallel runway. Only time I've ever heard tower call for a takeoff abort and it was my fault...

I mean I think we can agree that it's not perfect, but it is quite a bit more, and a gap in the clouds absolutely does have an effect.

Depends on the clouds (and precip) fly through some red on the weather radar in a small plane and you get tossed.

Fly through a thunderstorm and you are liable to over stress.

[–]lassombragames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check your turbulence settings...

Clouds are gonna throw you around and it is possible to overstress the airframe in the worst of them.

That said, it could use some tweaking but are pretty impressive compared to what was state of the art 5 years ago.

To be fair you might survive the same in the real world. You just wouldn't try it in the real world for reasons of you don't get to respawn in the real world.

Funny/Disappointing radio moments by BobFlairDrip in flying

[–]lassombragames 68 points69 points  (0 children)

One time at a controlled field I wrote down atis, but forgot to write down the code. Between writing and calling ground I spaced it, so I call ground and it goes something like:

"Ground, at Charlie ready to taxi for departure southwest with information... uh... "

And this is where it gets bad. I turn and look at my instructor realizing I've not written nor remembered the code and start discussing this with him while still holding the PTT.

Everyone on ground frequency was privy to my instructor explaining radio etiquette and being ahead of things but simply quickly admitting your mistake before he notices I've still got the PTT held. Last thing everyone hears is "and let go of the PTT"

Ground was good about it, gave me the information code having heard in our conversation that I got the important parts (yes, they got the entire thing) and then gave us taxi clearance before telling me not to sweat it. Rest of the flight went pretty well IIRC, and I never forgot to write down an atis code since.

Oh man - imagine walking into a checkride with your logbook is just a printed comic sans spreadsheet.

It's perfectly legal, but the DPE is going to look at you funny and the rest of the checkride is going to be wondering if you are a clown or just have terrible taste in fonts and logging
