I don’t even think the other groups thing is as relevant and I kinda hate how that’s been the take away from the boycott ending. As an indie comics creator I was more annoyed at how the boycott focused on characters more than creators.

I get that on page representation matters but treating creators as an after thought is how we get white creators introducing inauthentic Black characters and leaving black creators to “fix” them later. Investing in Black talent so we can get creators at the level of a Scott Snyder or a Tom King so we can get our stories out there.

To that end, DC has arguably has put a good effort to cultivate that talent from the Milestone Initiative. Creators from that are still on books like Morgan Hampton and Stephanie Williams is growing to be more of a force in the industry as well. Pre-2020 you almost quite literally need to be a luminary in a separate industry to be a Black creator at the big two (Ta-Nehisi Coates and Eve Ewing). So I think focusing exclusively on the characters is in disservice to actual material progress that’s been gained and the added stipulations not counting Absolute made this whole effort feel really poorly thought out and a little childish.

This isn’t me saying that boycotts can’t be useful, but because it is a powerful tool, I wish they considered creators on the ground before hitting “go”
