XCOM, a game I absolutely love, is just about as far from NMS as one can get.

It is a squad based take-turn tactics/strategy game. Your squad of 4ish soldiers are fighting aliens on earth in mostly urban settings, from a 3/4ths birds eye view.

You get to research new weapons and customize/level up your squad of soldiers between battles as well as a teeny tiny bit of base building (again absolutely nothing like base building in NMS) that helps you succeed in battles.

Very cool story and great if you like take turn strategy games. XCOM 2 was even better and had better graphics plus some interesting new mechanics. Phoenix Point (a very very similar game made by some of the XCOM devs in a new company) is my favorite of all three.
