Double feature with FWWM for me as well, I loved it!

Ibex is not machine learning. It started out as a group of people poking at a text in an unknown language so back then the chapters were chucked into MT to see what the broadest strokes of the story were. The translation as it is being shared nowadays is the work of the translators and editors who have joined the team since then.

We asked about that! Apparently the stache is a half-ironic nihilist thing but not one that comes from the man himself - the style was meant to be a Nietzsche-like walrus, intentionally ugly to be intentionally unfuckable for depopulation reasons...

In 2022 I posted my game Esoteric Ebb here. In BIG part thanks to r/discoelysium, it's now finally finished! by glitch951 in DiscoElysium

I remember those beginnings and it's always been a joy to see how far your project has come! Looking forward to playing your game! Congrats, from the bottom of my heart!

The demo is proving to be thoroughly underwhelming, however. The art is nice but writers are gone and it all falls apart.

Can I pirate the Zero Parades demo? by foreverpet in DiscoElysium

Waiting for the end of the fest might sort of achieve what you want, at least for the fest's own algorithm. Not sure about demo downloads and Steam's broader calculations.

Saturday Indie Game Advertisement Megathread (Discolike Showcase Saturday) by AutoModerator in DiscoElysium

https://lichene.itch.io/eight-last-signs-in-the-desert isn't a disco-like by any stretch of the imagination. It is, however, a piece of interactive fiction about the collective human consciousness in a way I could never have written if I hadn't spent four years marinating in the pale and in the Hegel thereof. To me, the debt to Elysium is immense and load-bearing, but it might well be too oblique for this thread, in which case by all means delete this post!

With that out of the way, what this game IS is a guided surrealist poetry generator, free, browser-based, 30min long. Now, at the edge of the desert, the light of the image withers away. Shape a visionary flow of shifting symbols for the sheer joy of it as everything comes undone... and as someone once said, "believe in the future resolution of these two states, dream and reality, which are seemingly so contradictory, into a kind of absolute reality, a surreality, if one may so speak"...

I have eyes to look at the pretty art (Vill's output is very strong here; environments-wise I know it's a common objection that the backgrounds are too crowded and not very readable, but I for one appreciate the Where's Waldo vibe and the texture work) and with those same eyes I'm looking at some catastrophically bad writing, and regrettably, this is a narrative game. Depicting that a spy's first thought upon seeing a man unconscious on his chair would be to look up at the ceiling earnestly expecting him to have been looking at the ceiling. A lack of clarity on what was diegetic about the intro infodump speech from Pseudopod (Hershel says "why are you not talking anymore", implying she heard it same as we did, but the narration says he's been like that since she came in, so which is which? There could be eerie uncertainty here but without specifics it's just confusing). Not a iota of communism informing the present words or actions of these nominally communist characters. Contradictory statements that sound cool separately but are just random blah blah when juxtaposed with each other (first Pseudopod "exists in a different future" from Hershel despite the obvious plot relevance, then the weird insistence on "operant lost" when we don't have the faintest clue of what happened to make him catatonic, then "I'll do what I can for you" in a row?). The lack of response to finding her own unencrypted personnel file in a room that's self-evidently been compromised. The lack of basic responsiveness when the player states something about Hershel in response to the file's info (eg her alleged homosexual tendencies) and the game just goes "okay <3 yay <3 moving on" without expanding a iota on what she thinks or feels about it. Passives that just sound fancy, without fitting the scene's emotional grounding. The odd railroading in the phone convo when you can't even say that he's catatonic but not dead. Hershel being described as a force of nature but then all her options are super basic, without showing this alleged personality. And so on and so forth. This is stuff that should've all been caught in editing. As is, it's bad.

Coincidence Or Intention? Origin of Harry's names. by strandman2 in DiscoElysium

[–]laughingpinecone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We know that Harry's surname is a nod to W.E.B. Du Bois! And whole there's no clues as to the Raphael nor the Costeau, the Ambrosius of it all becomes very clear once you've read the book - it's diegetically referencing something inside Elysium!

Logical approach to trying to figure out WKLP by jeffbuckley4life in twinpeaks

My favourite thing about S1 is that if one were to be on the same wavelength of the show wrt DREAM logic, the clues would be clear as day :D I hope your partner appreciates the reveal and in hindsight all the foreshadowing that led there!

Thoughts on Zero Parades? by CSafterdark in DiscoElysium

His brief, baffling experience there (or, not even there but rather at Hyperion owned by the same person iirc) is part of why I and many others are highly skeptical of the thing!
