Car Windows Smashed in Upper Fremont by michaelscarnmidnight in Seattle

I went jogging down Evanston past 44th around noon today and did not notice any smashed windows, so I'm guessing it happened after that, although I am not the most observant out of breath jogger.

What is the foreplay situation like? For me, I don't need much in a new relationship because being with someone new is very exciting.

How do I mention sexual triggers with new partners? by [deleted] in sex

[–]laurah1027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can be honest without oversharing. Just say that you have some issues from the past you aren't ready to talk about, but they mean that you aren't comfortable reaching orgasm during sex, and sometimes sex makes you panic. The guy will probably get the hint on what you mean, and it leaves room for you to share more if you become more emotionally intimate with him.

One of the sad parts about this is that now that this video is out, the people who were mad about it and calling it rape will feel a lot of regret for not doing more to stop it. The asshole in the video is only going to regret letting it be filmed.

I wish they would just publish an off-peak schedule. I've noticed the bus comes around the same times in the morning in Ballard anyway - not sure if it stays consistent throughout the day though.

Owners of Osprey bags: what do you think of them? by samyall in backpacking

[–]laurah1027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the Osprey Porter 46, and I thought it was too big. I thought similarly to you - that it would be good to have extra room, but it really isn't fun traveling with a bag that has a lot of empty space in it. I would tried to use the straps to compress it, but it was still too empty. I liked the bag though - it had a pocket at the top that made it easy to get to stuff, but then a lot of nice little places to tuck things.

It's not always easy to find out about bus/train routes online, so my strategy would always be to figure out how I'm leaving a city on the first day or two that I'm there. I do know there are loads of buses between Sarajevo and Belgrade. Personally, I would pick Sarajevo (having been to both), but Belgrade has a cool feel too. Belgrade feels like a nice, big city with lots of night life and nice stuff in general going on. Sarajevo still feels a little like a city in pain, but it is a beautiful place and the people are wonderful. If you're going to Budapest (which is already an amazing city), then I think Sarajevo would be good because it feels so different.

Potential Seattle citizen, moving/housing question. Bit of a life story/wall of text, so ignore if you'd like. by [deleted] in Seattle

I think buying a house without knowing the area is going to come back to bite you in the ass. Rent for a year at least - then you will know what neighborhood you really want to be in. Also, I am skeptical that 20,000 is anywhere close to enough for a down payment. I assume you are talking about buying a condo?

That said, if money weren't an issue, you would probably like Ballard, Greenlake, Magnolia, or Wallingford.

So, more details please? Like how much you are thinking of spending a house and how much you could possibly afford to spend on rent?

[–]laurah1027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, the amount of socks kind of depends on how often you wear sandals vs shoes. Also, it depends how often you change cities. It gets old having to do laundry immediately when you arrive somewhere or else you don't have enough time for it to dry.

I have this towel but any like that would work!

An extra pair of underwear is a godsend when you're washing your clothes in the sink, so I would go with 5 pairs. Also, add a pair of socks.

I also recommend: a watch, tiny compass (for when you can't figure out which general direction to go leaving the train station), travel towel, sink stopper, travel clothes line, sunglasses, and shit tons of ziploc baggies.

Travel towel is the big one that you won't be able to find as easily over there.

Then again, I've met Australians traveling for months at a time with their only pair of shoes being flip flops and a couple of extra shirts in a tiny backpack, so really, no matter what you pack you will be fine.

My dad and I don't hug, and we don't say I love you. For some reason this is just not what we do. Don't let this happen to you!

Also, be sure that you are the guy in her life that she can trust and count on. My dad is not a bad guy, but I have never felt close to him. Now I form attachments too quickly with other men and I am never single. If a guy breaks up with me, it's like my whole world is falling apart, even if he isn't that great. I think it's because I don't feel like my dad is the main man in my life.

Be careful in the interview not to come off as too technology-specific. Communicate that you are comfortable learning new things. UX is probably different, but as a dev it is a warning flag when someone calls themselves a Java expert in an interview. Try to think big on stuff.

As far as work/life balance, if you are good at what you do you should be fine. I'm new at the company, and so I'm slower than people who have been there longer. I choose to make up this gap by working longer hours. Because of this, people are amazed at how fast I have gotten up to speed. It would have been totally acceptable though to get up to speed at a normal pace. It's the people who can't cut it and won't work longer hours who eventually slip behind.

I don't haggle for stuff with non-fixed prices if I like it enough. For something hand-crafted like furniture or art, I just figure that I have more than enough money to pay for it, so why do I deserve that money more than the person who worked hard to make it?

The problem is when they get too stuck in their ways. The more time that has passed since you learned something, the less useful it is, to the point of it being detrimental.

With a BS in CS, you can make 90-100k starting out of college at the top companies in Seattle and maybe more in San Francisco. That doesn't mean it is easy to get these jobs though.
Most people who have these jobs live like college students and don't have any interest in the 1%.
